For dungeons be tanky as a mesmer
I’m sorry.. But I don’t think I could ever recommend this build for anyone.

Honestly, I think this is one of the worst builds that has been suggested for being used in dungeons that I’ve ever seen. Please never use this.
There isn’t a single dungeon (aside from maybe high-level fractals) where being a tanky mesmer is a better option than being a zerk/sin. If you feel the need to be tanky, then either you are doing something wrong or there is something wrong with your composition (i.e. you’re with a bunch of people who don’t know how to dodge/deal damage/support the party while still dealing respectable damage.) Also if you insist on being tanky, it is almost always better to run a zerk build (the ones with the most/best damage modifiers) with a few tanky armor pieces (e.g. swapping out zerk gloves/boots for knight’s). At any rate, I seriously hope this was simply a troll post…
Thank you Darkpsyde for posting constructive criticism.
And he’s right – the current PvE meta doesn’t encourage tanky builds. The added survival isn’t worth the damage loss. You end up doing pitiful damage on an already low damage profession but you’ll still go down quickly if you don’t know the encounters, when to dodge, or where to stand, etc.
I wish it was otherwise. I had a Mesmer friend when the game was released who always insisted on such builds and we mostly just played and had fun without pressing the point that he was virtually useless, but PUGs aren’t known for their tactfulness in this regard.

Is this the mesmer version of the nomad’s staff camping guardian?
I respect what I think is trying to be done here, but if its just survivability you want, you can run a higher damage set and and use mantra heal, mantra pain, mantra resolve with the trait to heal the entire party everytime you mantra. Ive face tanked mai trin with this plenty of times.
In the off chance, only one can be doing condi-spec in a dugeon team. Sadly, other classes can do it better.
Now this build can’t be well used. Guild Wars 2 breaks the MMO tradition of the so-called “Holy Trinity” of builds: DPS, support, and tank. Thing is about Guild Wars 2 is the evasiveness. This game gives the ability to evade, a skill that allows a momentarily invulnerability. This and other skills/traits that self sustains a person, makes the support role and tank role obsolete (there’s actually more reasons for it). This makes the DPS role the only reasonable role for anyone and generally meta in the PvE section of the game. This build can work in other modes like WvW and PvP, but not in this type of environment.
- WoodenPotatoes makes a more detailed reason which outlines why the “Holy Trinity” MMO doesn’t work in this game.

i think my eyes are actually bleeding
Thank you for writing up the build. I’m sorry that the community here is not the most forgiving or welcoming. I agree that while you may survive quite well on this build, your damage will be suboptimal by a considerable degree. There are simply better options.
Still, trying to come up with your own builds is fun, as is putting them into the test. Don’t let the rather nasty comments dissuade you from sharing your ideas in the future.

He’s just a new player. We all thought at the beginning PVT gear is awesome and my guardian can be the last man standing etc in good old 2012 ^^
