Guild Wars 2

So I’ve decided to try the other caster classes, and elementalist wasnt right for me, so imma try out mesme x)

Are there any beginner tips and tricks you guys can give me to building it? what’s the best build for them? and what should the role be in a dungeon or in WvW?

You can check out metabattle.com for the standard meta builds you would expect to see. In a dungeon, the meta mesmer runs assassin/berserker stats, runs a phantasm dps build, and in some fights specs for lots of reflects. with the focus trait and signet of the ether, you can very quickly put up 100% reflect uptime against a dangerous ranged foe. Time warp is usually taken on the elite slot, for faster dps or to fast res an ally. Mesmers are also great content skippers. Mass invis+veil/decoy+blink+portal=free long range skip for the whole party (I don’t think I’ve seen this outside of Arah, though).

I don’t wvw, but mesmers are supposed to be great for roaming and portal bombs. The portal bomb build runs similar to the dungeon skipper build, with the intent of invisibling past your enemies and dropping a portal in some inconvenient location behind their front lines, with 25 of your guys waiting to pop through.

With any mesmer build, the most important thing to consider is style and panache. When you play a mesmer, you are the most beautiful class in the game. And at any time, there are up to four of you at once. So make sure you dress in your best looking clothes! And generally, fuschia/purple color palettes are your go to options. The last thing anyone who would dare oppose a mesmer should see is flashes of purple, followed by beautiful butterflies to carry their now departed souls to the afterlife.

Chaos! :o I just read your guide and it was sooooo informative. I am going to go with the Phantasm build with a great sword I want to try and have as many clones up too for extra damage :o

Welcome to the Mesmer class!

The only thing you should focus on is dressing well and looking your best. Get you a decent looking finisher too. Everything else usually falls into place after that.

I have 4 Mesmers, and they each have different finishers depending on their theme.

Kawaii has the sanctified finisher, because she has a sun aspect Zephyrite theme.
Sukoshi looks like a deep sea Asuran monster, so he has the shark finisher.
Kurai has TA armor on and a toxic sprout backpiece so he gets the toxic finisher.
Reiki is my “Dry Top Sylvari” so she gets the roots finisher.

Fashion Wars 2 is my favorite game right ahead of Flame Wars 2.

coming from you, as you have 4 (very unique mesmers!), which of these PVP builds would best the easiest to learn and get down? i prefer fighting at a range, I would probably stick with one of the shatter builds. Maybe the traditionally but the meta build says they are difficult o learn x_x so that makes me unsure about playing those builds. D;

I followed one of his (i think roamer WVW necro builds for small 1v1 skirmishes or 2-3v1’s that I use in PVP as well) that works exceptionally well for me on necro. its probably common but yeah. (this is irrelevant xD ) I just trust Alcatraz’s stuff x)

But main question, which build do you think a newb should start off with in PVP? weapon wise and such.

Learn to play shatter. Yes it is difficult, and yes you will die a lot at first. Each death is a lesson in itself on what not to do next time, and you’ll find yourself getting better and better with each kill. Shatter teaches you the core fundamentals to play any Mesmer build properly.

… Otherwise Phantasm or PU can be pretty easy mode. 4/4/6 lockdown is defensively more forgiving than shatter but harder to learn to use properly. Or we can customize you a build based on your preferences, what weapons do you like to use and what is your favorite aspect of the Mesmer? (lots of illusions & condition, phantasms, teleports and stealth, big damage numbers, ECT?)

Ahhh ok. I like the idea of having clones running about and such and also big damage numbers, simultaneously using a greatsword as main hand, and then I guess a sword/pistol, or sword/torch for my second weapon set. (or focus even instead of torch. Pistol I think would be more strategically wise.)

Well then that’s pretty simple. Grab GS, sw/pistol take all the phantasm traits you like and run decoy/blink/signet of illusions and go learn you sumthin’.

Otherwise one of these other fine Phantasmy Mesmer folk can guide ya further, I haven’t run a phantasm build in foreverish.

Well that was easy xD lol i shall do that then o.o i watched a lot of videos where the burst damage is sooooooo huge O_O it was insane amount of DPS in PvP x_x lol

Wow MailMail, and I thought I was weird for having two Mesmers.

For dungeons, I run a S/S & S/F phantasm build. I’m not really qualified to say much beyond that.

WvW roaming is where IMHO Mesmers shine.

Every WvW zerg needs a couple Mesmers for Veil and Portal, and they need to be sturdy enough that they don’t die. Beyond that, it can be a struggle to carry your weight.
