Q:

I have been playing mesmer as my main in pvp since launch and I really enjoy playing it…but when I dare to enter solo queue I am immediately barked at for being there.
examples of stuff that people say to me:
- dam a 4v5 we have a mesmer
- mesmer get out of the queue
- and other more offensive stuff

Am I wrong to queue as a mesmer?
I do notice that I die lightning fast vs spirit rangers and necro’s even with condi removes.

I find myself turning a 180 whenever I see a ranger spirit or a necro because I know even if I play at my very best I can’t win.

Is there something I am missing here, is there a counter against those two meta kings or am I doomed to reroll or play hotjoin?
Getting quite desperate here and I could use some help:/

Thanks

1) What kind of build do you run?

2) Don’t let other peoples’ ignorance turn you away from a class you love. I’d bet most of them are just parroting what they’ve heard other people say.

With this new meta, you NEED solid condition removal. Arcane Thievary, iDisenchanter, Null field, Shattered Conditions/Mender’s Purity (Inspiration traits), ect.. Take any two and you should be able to better handle the constant condition spam.

Positioning is key, and making sure you’re in the right place (I.E. never standing still, never committing to melee or ranged for too long) is crucial to staying alive. Thieves are gonna gape your butt open if you’re running Zerker gear, if a thief kills you quickly once, he’ll memorize your squishiness and hunt you down.

Finding a proper role is gonna be very difficult, but not impossible. Don’t give up and don’t give in to people that likely barely have any idea what they’re talking about. People simply don’t theorycraft very much in sPvP after tried-and-true builds start to falter so there’s still plenty to discover.

(That being said, Mesmer ARE at a disadvantage with the rampant conditions. A few other classes have it easier than us, and its always easier to jump ship rather than stick to your guns and figure a way to adapt.)

3) If you want, we can meet in-game and talk shop. Analyze strengths & weakness ect.

I only play Mesmer, and I have no problems winning in solo queue. Unfortunately, winning in solo queue is about 10% skill and 90% ending up on the winning side of the 5v4.

Over 70% of my solo queue games played were 5v4 or worse.

Lol since when does solo join even matter? You can join as a chair and still do good.

I have been able to dominate solo games with my Mesmer – as the lowest ranked player on the team, haha. Of course its more of the cookiecutter OP builds than random sPvP. But that’s not really a suprise, you just have to play more cautiously. As the above say, winning or loosing is not so much skill as its aboutt sheer dumb luck with the team composition (and obvious imbalances in numbers)

I play a greatsword/staff mantra berserker build in PvP and its fairly easy to find a place on the battlefield as a backline support burster. It doesnt have the stamina to bunker on a point, but played well it can decide battles in a couple of seconds. Thieves arent rally that much of a threat (staff for defensive in the initial strikes then burst with the greatsword and watch them flee), but the builds nemesis is stunlock warriors. Doesnt work great with channeling mantras, lol.

I have been running a shatter spec sword/focus Greatsword and occasional staff, with null field and arcane thievery both of those keep me alive vs condition specs for a longer time but in the end I still end up face down..

I have no problem with any melee damage dealers including thief’s with the exception of s/d.
I can kill most d/p;d/d thiefs fairly easily.

I found that if I run sword/focus greatsword I have a greater chance of winning vs necro’s since I can keep on bursting for a very long time in the hope killing him before I am stacked with nasty stuff. for spirit rangers it doesn’t matter what I do I always die..

Mesmers are fine. Your fine. Its not illegal to try to compete and have fun.

If you are struggling vs. Necros and condition rangers see if you can work in mantra of….crap well mantra of condition cleansing. Try to hold off on rangers until they apply the burn to you and don’t use it vs. A necro until they fear you. Necros are making their hay off of the fear condition and that mantra is a huge [rooster]-block for it.

Thanks for the heads up OP. I’ve yet to catch that kind of flak in tpvp solo join, but at least I won’t be surprised now if I do.

As for pvp performance I suggest one of the many prismatic build variations. Setup mainly for clone-death you can turn it into a condition nuker. On my build I push my first rotation to press my opponent. Then I nuke them with conditions and roll into my next rotation to finish them off. Also, while some people can make it work, I’d suggest against using either GS or Focus in tpvp. I find they underperform verse the alternatives. GS is especially weak in a 1v1 imo.

I’ve played a fair amount of tpvp solo join lately and with so much stealth I seem to be the one rez’n my ranger and necro teammates more than they are dominating. I feel we are quite valuable in many pvp roles. I prefer far point personally, but will fill most any role the team needs.

Another thing to look into is your interface setup. This is key to reaching a high level of performance in this game in both pvp and pve. My original teacher for this was Kripparrian’s videos on youtube. The basic idea is to bind all of your ingame actions to your keyboard and mouse in such a way that you don’t have to pickup your keyboard hand. Specialized mice like the Logitech gaming mice line (mine is the G700 and is cheaper at newegg) enable you to bind more skills, particularly the ground-target ones. Second to this is mouse-turning over keyboard turning. Mouse turning allows you to continue pressing your skills while you direct your character.

I only play Mesmer, and I have no problems winning in solo queue. Unfortunately, winning in solo queue is about 10% skill and 90% ending up on the winning side of the 5v4.

Over 70% of my solo queue games played were 5v4 or worse.

I very rarely see this issue. Perhaps it’s due to the server you play on?

kitten dude. I run the black water build with minor tweaks. I use arcane thievery for utils. I find between my torch skills and my invis I have tons of cleanse and regen that make conditions bearable. In fact. I have yet to have trouble w those classes. Could be I haven’t met the good ones yet. Try thievery and disenchanter. Or try torch cleanse trait. Osicat has a great vid on how to deal w neceos

1v1 doesnt really matter though – your goal is to win the round, not loose it by using your uber dueling skills. Personally I find the GS a strong enough 1v1 weapon. A Mesmer at max engagement range is the most dangerous Mesmer. Sword is a good and fun weapon but it pretty much require a more bunker type build in the current meta. Going CQB against a well condition/fear Necro is a rather bad idea for most people.

In this condition meta I strongly suggest going 20 20 30 0 0 rabid amulet undead runes blink decoy portal mass invis scepter torch sword pistol.

I go to far if its 1v1 I win no matter what, maybe it is my skill, but the only thing that can bother u is keeping the point. If its a necro u have to stay far away to avoid the condi transfers back to you which makes hard for u to stay on point. Also the constant stealth makes it hard to keep it neutral. But I’ve even trolled in 1v2s for so long and even win most battles and guess what if there’s 2 on you then the other points are at a disadvantage. Once I cap the far node I put a portal down then go to mid rinse and repeat.

This strat has made me the difference in a game and the reason my team wins most of the time. Never die with blink and stealth you are invincible.

Hah and people say mesmer is weak no they are terribly wrong
