This happened to me today, I was in a hot join to practice couple combos (lock down and shatter) where I instantly killed this power ranger instantly couple times. Then this happened

I tried to apologize to him then he blocked me

If mesmer is soo hated right now. I don’t know if I should keep playing mesmer

Mesmers aren’t hated, the person you beat was terrible and blames the class for his own badness.

Judging by that reaction, that person (who for whatever reason got extremely overemotional) seems the type who’s quick to blame others for their own screw up, and thus won’t learn from their own mistakes because they’re too busy raging.

So keep it up! That won’t be the last vocal troll you step on.

Oh I wouldn’t worry – I’m sure everyone here has received unpleasant whispers at some point or other – just the nature of pvp.

It’s worse when you run into very good players who are also incredibly obnoxious/arrogant – because sadly you can’t shut them up through gameplay alone.

One of the reasons I decided to drop shatter recently in favour of a condition build is because I ran into one such engineer when I was way too tired to think straight or play even half decently – and it goes without saying, with shatter vs a good engineer in conquest, if you’re not bang on perfect with skill use and timing things generally don’t end well. I was just failing completely and naturally very touchy being tired and the sheer arrogance of this kitten seriously kittened me off.

Play whatever you like, try and tolerate the idiots because sometimes you will run into great friendly players (whether allies or enemies) and will have a great time.

It’s like teaching in school – there will always be one or two really great pupils who are a joy to work with, and which make the daily grind less painful.

Anyway Mesmer isn’t hated, you’ve just encountered one player who got angry. This guy was actually angry because I escaped (via teleporting to an out of the way safe location) which sparked his verbal assault. You can’t be held accountable for the constructs people come up with in their own heads.

I was once called a “heart seeker spamming nube” on my thief once, when in reality I killed them with a combo of scorpion wire, basilisk venom + back stabs.

Another time I was called a “stun breaking kitten” on my ele.

My guard was called a “blinding spamming kitten” by a warrior when I took them out with a combo of stun breaks, blocks, blinds and burning.

Bads will be bads, and bads will insult as a result. Just ignore them and kill them again. They’ll come at you kittened and thus play even worse.

Personal Favorite whispers from angry players

MM Necro who calls you bad for using Moa on him/her to remove minions.

Invis Spamming thief that claims PU invis spamming is OP and you are bad.

Invulnerable Beast master/spirit abuse ranger who gets mad when you use Moa to remove all his passives.

Warrior who gets mad at Moa when it removes all their passives.

PU Mesmer mad at Moa and claims its just a crutch (my personal favorite)

The Ele mad that you stacked confusion and they destroyed themselves.

The engineer decap troll who gets upset when you kill them before they decap and cant abuse your lack of stability.

Newest are the Glass LB rangers standing 1800 range off point feeling like a bad kitten as they spam 1, a quick and hard spike and they go down… most of these players seem to be immigrant EZMode Warriors from pre patch.. they get mad a lot.

Haha, must be something in the air. Got multiple flames today, calling me “naz* kitten” “condi kitten ”. The rangers are just raging because they see all these cool yt vids, where some glassy rangers pwn some noobs, but they couldn´t play like this by themselves and die to everyone who knows what to dodge etc.. So nevermind, keep it up! =)

He had a lot more to say, and I had fun playing smack talk with him. He wasnt such a bad dude in the end, but in the end the actions certainly spoke the loudest, far better than the words.

Edit: You can turn off chat filtering through an option in the f11 menu, just in case you wanted to disable that.

There are a lot of ways to deal with qq targeted at you personally. Lots of great suggestions here, but one thing you could try is just agree with everything they say. The sarcasm will shine through pretty quickly and likely will just shut them down.

By all means, do not quit playing a class because you’re doing well. Enjoy it, continue to improve and carry on …

Chat can be fun.

One time I kept “You got WREKKED!” after every fight while playing duel axe warrior regardless of who went down. At first some people were a bit put off by it, but by the end it was a big joke throughout the match and for the following ones. You can’t dictate other peoples attitudes but you can determine your own.

you know how you get better?
by playing cheesy builds you dont like playing.
isnt it sad that i play glass cannon builds just to be able to kill mesmers?
also most mesmers run glassy builds because they are so effective.
at the end i did not get better i just searched and play a build that manages to kill some of you.
my past qq was about warriors that eventually got nerfed and for the past bugged clone damage mesmers had.
when i find something that is wrong i will qq about it.
but if you like classes being about damage i dont, i think mesmers have potential to be more that being about the insane burst and its my opinion.

I never said the ranger change was bad. I was having too easy a time dealing with them before, it was sad-ish. Now I have to actually strategize my movements and position to close the distance.

Now, now, why don’t you stop there and instead make a thread on the Mesmer Forums asking how is the best way to overcome your current problems against mesmers with your build or class or whatever. You’ll get better feedback. If you don’t want actual advice or insight into the style of the mesmer, I suggest you stop complaining about it until you’ve tried.
