Illusions dying vs stealthed opponent in WvW
Fighting a thief in WvW; he stealthed, the clones/phantasms I had out just died as soon as he came out of stealth. Noticed it again when fighting another mesmer; no action taken on my part to destroy them.
Bug or Intended? Anyone else notice this?
You most likely shattered them after he went into stealth, and they shattered some time after that since they had lost their target. Illusions won’t die if their target goes into stealth. As a matter of fact, having the target go into stealth then run away is the one and only way to get illusions that just sit around without any active target.
I only noticed after this most recent patch; If you can, try dueling a thief/mes, you should see what I’m talking about. As soon as the thief comes out of stealth, all illusions just “explode” (death; not a shatter).

I’m having the same issue. Clones and Phantasms are both dying once they lose target for a very short time.
Also not even just thieves. After my illusions chase a target for a little bit they just randomly die.
I’m not shattering or reaching my limit, this happens with only 1-2 out even.

has someone tested this. please dont tell me they broke the mesmers again! seriously it is very important that my phantasms stay up when thief goes into stealth. this would be a major nerf for me in spvp and wvw.

Iwarden also dies if I used it on inanimate objects like a trebuchet and stays inactive for 2 secs after being activated.
Yeah same thing is happening to me. About 2 seconds into stealth the illusions go away like i shattered them or the target died. This was with a Mesmer downed skill that stealth them Mass Invisibility and anything a thief did to get them in stealth so far. This was also in WvW.
Lol this bug. And they even didn’t fix it yet. How do you even bug something you don’t even touch? Nice work!
Basically, once the enemy goes into stealth, your clones lose their target and despawn the moment you start a new clone chain or when he gets out of stealth.
Edit: It’s just kittening random. They despawn whenever they want when the enemy gets in stealth.

omg so terrible thieves just wreck me they keep steqalthing and im defenseless. why does anet break something about the mesmer every single patch? i made a joke last night and said i wonder what they break this time, but i had no idea how big of a bug u guys pulled off now. this needs to be fixed right NOW!

no chance vs theives at all no illusions and they know about it so we gotta play a different class

As I said in another similar thread. I support this change. Moa kills all minions, stealth kills all illusions. Minion’s don’t have a “master”, illusions don’t have a target, I mean. Fair is fair! It’s okay to have hard counters against mms, but Mesmer’s aren’t allowed to have one?

well phantasms are our weapons as everything else is on longer cd’s and phantasms are supposed to be our dmg. well with this bug a shatterer has 0 chance vs a thief and all the other builds are crippled to 0 dmg appart from mh sword dmg that doesnt require a target. so vs thief u have no chance atm not a single one. every single thief in spvp killed me today as all my illusions went poof right awat and those phantasms have quiet the cooldown.
please ill give u my moa for this bug to get fixed

The day I see a Mesmer try to moa me without stealthing and waiting .5-1.5 seconds after stealth to start casting to almost guarantee that it’ll land unpredictably I’ll stop and think of you.

being turned into a moa and your minions die sounds like a bug as well. why aren’t you guys raising a fuss? does moa also kill pets? I bet if warriors ever summoned anything they’d be the only ones exempt from summon dying on physical changes.

im a wvw player so i never felt guilty using pu. i use pu power and in a zerg that pretty much the only build u can survive with the current cc spam meta. at least i got stunbreakers with that and can escape the 4 warriors stunning and rushing me.

You can hardly call them an AI anyway.
They just attack with a set interval, and run into range when they are too far away.
Even a single cell organism has a bigger ‘to do list’ in its life.

Give me more options that allow me to be useful without illusions (for example manipulation utility skills), then you have something to back that up.
There is one – one OP feature at the moment, and that is the PU trait.
Illusions are a core mechanic of the class, without which shattering for one becomes kittened (nevermind phantasms and so on). That’s neutering most of our dps. I haven’t been able to get in game and test this, but it looks bad for shatter builds fighting thieves or other mesmers.

We have raised a fuss lol. We’ve even had red posts suggesting it was a bug. Every 2 months or so, people beg and beg, it dies away. Anet doesn’t even comment on it anymore…

I just wanted to say, they don’t die when the enemy stealths. The issue is that they are not retaining their targets when the enemy stealths. If someone stealths and comes out of it before they try to initiate an attack, they will get their target back and not die. As soon as they try to attack (aka their attack is NOT already being used, only when they try to initiate the attack) and they have no target, they die. As such, a Phantasmal Warden using his ability and someone uses a 3-4 second stealth, they generally won’t die. Shadow refuge however, or any stealth stacking can pretty much always kill them all.

Indeed, thus it’s funny to see players complain about being beaten by a single-cell organism. Says a lot about the intelligence of those complainers. :P
All joking aside.. this is game-breaking. Without our illusions our offense and defense is cut down to such an extent that the class becomes unplayable.
I think I’m the only Mesmer who’s welcomed the increased challenge, because I’ve still been outperforming stealth classes, but I’m also a total masochist so that’s me being a weirdo freak.
But yeah definitely expecting this to be hotfixed soon.
