Is a confusion build effective in PvE dungeons?
First of all don’t use the torch. Confusion builds which I’m aware of use either power or crit to back up their damage with shatters (power) and/or bleeds (sharper images).
I think that confusion is supposed to be continuously applied in stacks of under 5 instead of burst damage of 15-18 stacks. That’s also the difference between pve and pvp.
Confusion builds are very effective for PvE…
…when you are underwater.
According to Anet, Confusion is meant to be applied in bursts instead of a continuous condition like Bleeding; hence why they removed it from Scepter 1 and Trident 1.
Confusion damage should supplement Staff condition damage. It will never be strong enough to be your primary damage source.
They haven’t totally removed confusion under water it’s still there but only on illusions, I use confusion for aoe its easy to deal out stacks of confusion on many targets with 2 shatters in a row. And for bosses I just spam my staff clones and watch…
Lol underwater Mesmer = too good. But normally I find that I get 1 hit of confusion per stack each time I use it. Sometimes it might be 1 hit while it’s building, then 1 hit for all the other stacks. It effictively makes Frustration do considerably more damage, but still nothing compared to a Dom traited Wrack with crits.
Yeah the thing seems quite inconsistent. For the land-based Scepter they removed confusion from Clones, effectively rendering them very weak (compared to Clones from any other weapon), as they attack too slow for Sharper Illusions and don’t cause any secondary effects.
OTOH, the underwater Trident Clones still cause Confusion, making them actually pretty powerful (I’d genuinely rate them better than Staff, since underwater damage is generally low for all classes, only we can make them pay for having to use so many skills to cause X damage).
After reading all these responses. I’m genuinely disappointed. I am just going to stick with my power/crit build and Greatsword. Saves me some gold with trying to buy Carrion gear and weapons anyway…
Confusion is way way way more effective against players than mobs. I get really irritated to see a mesmer go into pve with a scepter. You might as well take somebody else.
Mob’s don’t AA often enough to make confusion viable for PVE.
PVP though it’s a different story. I’ve been dueling in Wvw all week with a confusion build and having a blast though I know other builds are better for straight killing. My confusion build still hits for 1700 a ability activation.
and stay away from the Mantras they are a disaster in pve (especially dungeon running).

I love mantras… with empowered mantras coupled with harmonious mantras.
Personally I go 0/0/25/25/20 with a “Condition” build that uses tons of confusion. Works quite nicely when I’m incredibly tanky and do damage to them everytime they hit me. I start off with a OH sword clone and the iMage, let the iMage get off an attack then cry of frustration with both of them, then switch to staff, summon iWarlock, Defender and Disenchanter, and just smack them with confusion again whenever all those come off CD. It’s not a lot of damage, but it’s a lot of support with a side of conditions. It’s done wonders in dungeons for me where I can tell people I’ll replace their need for a guardian.
Yup i play a glamour mesmer with mass confusion and its great
I use it for pve/wvw/spvp i just luv the play style

I’m so confused whenever people talk about PvP when the title clearly states [PvE Dungeons]…
Well, in Dark’s defense, he did say pve/wvw/spvp…
