Mesmer Personality Quiz! Exclamation Points!
Well this is interesting. In case anyone missed it:

What do y’all think? Personally I’m hopeful that this means better communication of players needs and ideas to the devs. I know many people see this and think “whats the point? It’s not like anything we say has a difference anyway” but that’s not entirely true.
Off the top of my head the changes to:
All were influenced by us here in the Mes forums, so there is hope!
Your inbox is full you dope!
Might apply for it after I get into college. I pride my ability on being neutral and writing apathetic reports.
Hopefully our specialist can help us give ANet a list of all the points of mesmer we find underwhelming, such as Disrupter’s Sustainment and Mimic, in an organized way so ANet can know clearly what is needing work instead of having to go in game themselves or rely on the community’s latest target.

Fixed!
@Dondagora: Once we find out who it is, we can start making a mesmer priority list of fixes/buffs/changes.
All I ask is that the Mesmer Forum Specialist actually plays the class. At least then, most of the ideas our side would suggest have already been thought of.
Although, I can say that for any profession, tbh.
Yeah I saw it a week ago or so when they posted it. I’m really hoping this doesn’t turn into some entitlement sort of thing and they find people with the time and energy to do a good job without egos. The last thing we want is some overlord.
It’s a tall task really and I’m glad they went to the lengths they did with the application process.
To be honest, I think you should apply skcamow. The specialist is going to be a player, so it should be someone we’re familiar with and who is familiar with the class.
Hmm, only NA players?
“In addition, all Guild Wars 2 Forum Specialists… must live in the USA and be age 18 or older, for legal reasons…”
Well if we were allowed to vote, I’d vote for any of you guys here who knows the class inside out – at least we might have a chance of seeing something fresh injected into the class.

They mention that this is sorta the ‘pilot program’, and is only being released for the english speaking forums. I presume that once it’s out of pilot, they’ll release it for other areas as well.

Read this a few days ago (had to go find it), but it’s due to legal reasons primarily:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Questions-on-the-Guild-Wars-2-Forum-Specialists-Program/first#post4600354
She does leave the opening to extend into other areas though, so hopefully that happens (assuming the pilot goes well).
And Chaos … why you do this … thanks for the vote of confidence. I’m on here a lot but don’t think I have the time/energy to dive that much more into it.
I plan on applying to it, though I think Chaos should as well. You are passionate about mesmers darling.

Ha ha! Agreed, but the poor thing could use an extra little bonus. =)
Nothin’ wrong bein’ a yank! ;P Besides, we’re the uh “beta testers” for this. Every mistake that gets made, we get to do it first. =D So you get more rules when it’s your turn! Sounds fair, right?
I don’t think any of us regulars on here would qualify for the illustrious position of a Forum monkey, as many of us at some point or another have called out anet on bad design or lack of attention etc etc…
and typically its in less than a professional manner.
I get the feeling Anet wants people or a person who is going to give coverage to every forum sub section and who will do so without agreeing with or folding to other players reasoning or anger whether it is justified or not.
Best of luck to those that apply tho!

What they’re mainly looking for is someone that’s able to accurately, clearly, and reliably collect the information on the forums and report it to them without changing things with bias.
That’s happily divorced from what you actually say and your opinions aired on the forums. As long as you can perform those functions effectively, what you think of anet doesn’t matter much.
IMO if they make mantra of distraction insta recharge then mesmer class would be complete .
Here’s an idea,
Why don’t we try to nominate a Mesmer Forum specialist ourselves, in advance of Anet, and tell them of our decision? Worst case scenario is that it doesn’t work out and if it does we at least know that the devs listen to us.
They have an application form that needs to be filled out. The nominee has to also want to work for them. Otherwise, I would nominate Pyro, except in the stipulations it says you have to have an account in good standing……..
We could try nominating people, but some[Pyro] of us who might be nominated might not have the best standing, plus our nomination means absolutely nothing as anyone can apply and it’s up to ANet. If we try to nominate someone and that someone doesn’t get chosen, it’ll create an awkward situation with the chosen specialist. Thus, it’s better to just let it happen.

It’s best usage is to remove a blind with it, no kidding
This is an interesting idea! I’m glad the Mesmer forum has so many passionate players more so than any other class! Whoever gets the job will do a fine job I’m sure.
I hate to say it, but most likely the one what gets the job will be one of the newer Mes players (and/or an Anet plant). Let’s be realistic, shall we? Most of the older crowd has had minimal restraint in regards to calling out the Devs on horrid balance decisions.
Of course, I can always be wrong.

The only person that I can think of is pyro honestly, although I don’t want to know how many infractions he has had as well as that perma ban
I was thinking of Pyro too. He’d be awesome for the mesmer board!
The fact that basically any member that has contributed anything of relevance to the entire forum have extensive infraction histories and single or either multiple bannings means the whole forum specialist garbage is just going to be some ANet yes-man giving them watered down information about what people are currently having problems with.

Honestly, I don’t think this position should have nearly as much input as many people think it will. Here’s my take on this initiative.
Anet isn’t looking for a person to provide feedback. They already have that. They have testers, they have people giving feedback and whatnot. The “forum specialist” is simply supposed to be an efficient conduit allowing for feedback and information that comes up on the forums to be relayed to the devs through a completely impartial pipeline, with no filtering or bias.
Anet doesn’t have/doesn’t want to spend money on the manpower to adequately collect the massive amount of feedback present on the forums. Instead, they’re basically outsourcing the role to volunteers; the forum specialist.
Say I was the forum specialist. I personally enjoy the PU playstyle and don’t think it’s overpowered. However, there are not infrequent threads discussing its strengths/weaknesses/complaints, etc. As the forum specialist, it would be my duty to simply note the existence of the thread, note the complete contents, and relay that in a concise manner to the devs, without inserting commentary about whether it’s a good thread or a bad thread or a foolish thread. This could be done by someone that’s never even played the game before, they just need to remain unbiased and efficient at presenting information.
The pessimism found on the forums is quite unbecoming at times. I am happy with this initiative and hopeful that it’ll help continue to push not only pvp but the Mesmer class in a more positive role.
When you sit and watch a game you enjoyed be so woefully mismanaged over two years, you’ll understand why people are so pessimistic.
Sure, it’s not archeage level of mismanagement (good lord), but the whole shutting down and not interacting with the community besides (now) with a useless rep who can’t even say anything besides “cool post, bro!”, and then by introducing a new specialist system with another person will now also be saying “cool post, bro!”, ignoring WvW, making a game a complete sham of an eSport so PvP is just dead in the water, and not even bothering anymore to make five-man instances gives people good reason to be doubtful whether this will be useful or not.
The (pvp) game has been mismanaged since it’s conception. I do understand why people are pessimistic, because I’ve been here from the start as well. That doesn’t mean it’s ok to have that mentality all the time.
Anet is like the boy who cried wolf. Sometimes they do get it right…rarely. You can expect the worst but hope for the best when posting. It’s all about tone.
