“Agony, torment, pain” is something the caster says every time the mantra is used. Well it’s getting a bit disturbing hearing this every 5 seconds and I really wish I didn’t have to listen to such negative words every few seconds in order to use the only mesmer damage utility skill there is. I actually just stopped using it cause it was bringing my mood down lol. I could turn the voice dialogue off but then obviously I wouldn’t hear anything else. Would be great if there was an option to turn off this dialogue or limit it to every 30 seconds or something. All the other mantras are nice to hear it’s just this one. And please don’t comment with, “you don’t have to use it if you don’t want to hear it.” I’m already aware, thanks
Every Mantra Casting uses three words to “describe” their effect. I like them.
I find the Pain ones rather agressive than negative.
I just love it. And as I’m heal specced it’s “Agony, torment, pain” for that badie that needs to die asap and plenty of “Ah Refreshing” for my allies.
But that’s just me of course and I can see and do understand your point of view.
I find it annoying too.
Personally i thought everyone would be annoyed after casting this multiple times as soon as the cooldown has expired.
But after the 2 posts before me i realize, that an option to turn this off would be perfect

The mantra of pain voice-over gets annoying. Even more so when your spouse wanders into the room and hears it repeat again and again while you play.
Reducing it to a one-word phrase would be nice… and the phrase could rotate through “agony” on the first charge up, to “torment” on the second charge, and “pain” on the third charge up — repeating in a loop.
That would remove some of the repetitiveness of it.
How about make it say “Sandwich, Zipline,Walrus!”. It would really confuse your enemies .. and isn’t that the point?
I’d find it more suitable if it didn’t do laughable damage.
It should be “tickle, feather, bubbles” or something to match what it really does.
Mantras aren’t meant to be nukes. They’re instant so they can be used while casting/channeling other skills without interruption. Plus you get two of them. Basically, for preparing, you’re rewarded with some extra free damage.
Whether it’s worth it to replace another utility skill with this mantra is another argument. But I can absolutely see their niche.
I use shatters for that, they aren’t even a utility.
More damage, no charge time.
Creating clones is the “charge time” and can only be done in combat. I’m not saying mantras are fantastic, I almost never use them. But I can see where they were going with the idea and with a few tweaks they might actually be viable. Pretty sure this is off topic though.
I’ve never been bothered by the dialogue, mostly because I always forget to prepare the spell so I only hear it once in a while.. or in the middle of combat when I accidentally press that button when the charges are gone.

yes urge to kill risiiiiing is super annoying, but “might makes me right” takes the cake and i dont even play a norn.
What they should introduce instead is the domination sounds from TF2. Those are amazing and fun. I would especially like the Spy’s snorty laugh when I kill the same guy 3 times.

In terms of what they are and their quality, I absolutely love ALL the voic-overs to bits, including the mantra ones.
They’re just a bit too frequent, is all. They ought to be a pleasant bit of “colour” when something happens now and then, rather than an irritation that happens every kitten time something happens.
I remember in a Q&A video I watched before the beta weekends were taking place, one of the questions was regarding the phrases the characters say during certain spells and abilities they featured in the profession skill videos on the main page. ANet said they wouldn’t be used as often, but I guess that’s a matter of opinion. I love my engineer and all the sound effects when I use elixirs and different guns and stuff, but I hate when I use an elixir for run speed out of combat and my guy says “Urge to kill rising!”
Depending on you and your ideas of how your character is personality-wise, they can be very off the mark.
Most annoying thing ever put in an MMO. I charge it up everytime I kill something and my head aches. There should be an option to turn off the sound for this one skill. Hearing it every 10-15 seconds is brutal.
I probably shouldn’t talk, since I’ve only used a mantra build for about 1/4 of my sPVP matches in the betas… but I kind of liked the chanting while preparing the spell.
Also it might help that as a Charr, “Agony, Torment, Pain!” sounds a lot more in character and intimidating.
