If ranged DPS is buffed to melee level than melee weapons will become obsolete. Ranged weapons make up for damage efficiency with versatility. They are different tools with different purposes. I wouldn’t bet on them buffing ranged damage.

Totally agree with this. If anything, the Greatsword needs it’s versatility improved, not it’s damage.

If they changed Mind Stab to rip two boons and be a blast finisher I’d be the happiest mesmer this side of the Black Citadel.
we know that gs damage is ok for single target, ~equal dps as shot bow but u know, how suck for multiple attacks.. however for shorbow always hits 3 attacks.. so while shotbows dps can go 1.69 mesmers gs 0.36to………….0.62 and there will be not reward for effort hardly let it hit multiple..

It needs some sort of utility which makes it worth taking it over a weapon with a 2.5s evade and if equipped with off-hand sword, a block that hits like a train. This utility also needs to make the DPS drop worthwhile.
The GS is lacking any sort of defensive benefit.. and I’m not even too sure how that could be compensated for.
I know this is sort of stepping on Arcane Thievery’s toes, but if Mirror Blade transferred 2 conditions to enemies on bounce, and Mind Spike stole 2 boons (with a larger radius and blast finisher) and both abilities did more damage.. then maybe we’d be on to something.

It would also make mirror blade traited with illusionary elasticity something worth taking. I think if it worked like this “transfers boons from enemies to allies with in range 2 per bounce” it would make the GS some amazing team support.

I can actually understand the “you need X or Y to be in this group” mentality. Some classes simply need to have a certain setup before they are viable.
Before coming to the mesmer I mained a necro, and to be effective I had to use one particular spec, at least as condition. I believe the same applies as power. Anyways, there’s very little diversity with necromancer specs and if this is true with other classes as well, I can understand why some also view the mesmer this way.
BUT, I’ve found the mesmer to be the most versatile class in terms of trait and weapon selection, you can literally make anything work. (There’s ofc some limitations) But there are so many different choices, and this is one thing that actually has made me more happy with my choice to switch classes.
