[Mesmer] List of bugged abilities and traits.
Has anyone else noticed there are times when clones or phantasms will spawn and just stand there and not go away after the target dies. Ive had more than one occasion where this happened and after 2-3 minutes of the clones just standing there doing nothing I shattered them for the heck of it to make them go away. I wonder how long they would have stayed there.
This seems to happen in wvw a lot and might have something to do with the previously mentioned stealth reveal phantasm glitch. My phantasms ALWAYS look like me when this bug occurs.
Some things I have noticed that I haven’t seen anyone else post on:
1. Sword Clones using Mind Spike (3rd chain ability) do close to zero damage. The damage of the previous two attacks in the chain do regular clone damage (1st two: 10-11 damage, Mind Spike 0 or 1 if Critical). Mind Spike should be doing more clone damage than the previous two attacks in the chain as that is in line with the player auto-attack.
2. None of the Sword Clone attacks cleave to hit additional enemies adjacent to the their target.
3. The first ranged attack used on a player using Mimic will still hit- dealing full damage and apply relevant conditions even though the projectile gets successfully absorbed.
4. If Illusions are ordered to shatter (Mind Wrack or Cry of Frustration) on a target, and the target dies before they reach it, the Illusions will still run to the target and shatter on its position but deal no AoE damage to adjacent foes.
Additionally, if one or two Illusions shatter and the target dies, the remaining illusion(s) will still run in and shatter on the defeated foe’s position but will not do AoE damage to adjacent foes.

Dunno about 1 and2. 4 seems like intended behaviour, but I might be wrong.
3 is indeed intended behaviour. The first part, where you take a hit and copy it, used to be the only effect of the skill. It was then deemed too weak, and they added a block/reflect time after this primary effect, but didn’t touch the first part.
Makes for an interesting tradeoff, if you ask me : shorter CD than Feedback ; bock melee ; reflect not positionnal (ennemy can’t exit the area and you can flee while maintaining the effect) – but in the other hand : it’s a channel ; last less time ; you still take a hit (than can interrupt your channel) ; isn’t a combo field ; can’t cover a friend. Up to you to determine if it’s worth it, but imho doesn’t need fix, it already has its roles.
@Elidath Indeed all of the things I’ve posted may be working as intended, but I guess I’d like more honest tooltips and expectancies of what I’m getting from skills
“Absorbing” a projectile to me means that it doesn’t hurt me- that’s what it does on other skills like Shield of Absorption.
Why shouldn’t my clones be using clone-damage versions of Mind Stab (or other auto-attacks like WoC) like I do?
If 4. is indeed intended behavior, that’s ridiculous lol. Other attacks used against targets that die during skill use can still hit other valid living targets in the skills’ effect radius. Why shouldn’t shatters?
Also
5. The tooltip of Chaotic Dampening explicitly states that it does not affect Trident Cooldown and I appreciate that tooltip honesty but… why? Especially when blade training effects both swords and spears.
6. If Portal is used and Decoy is swapped in to replace another skill on the bar once Portal enters cooldown Decoy will enter cooldown for in sync with Portal for the duration. I’ll see if I can get a screen shot; happens to me all the time and without fail in CoF P1 or Swampland fractal when I’m commonly skill swapping.

The behaviour of Mimic comes from it’s implementation history. But for now, it seems like it’s intended. Once the first projectile hits you, you reflect all following projectiles, block all attacks and get a copy of the initial projectile.
Sword clones do use the full rotation of your sword’s AA. They inflict 2x vulnerability and 1x boon removal.
Illusions cease to exist when their target dies, since they’re “meant” to be only seen by the target. Like a distorsion of reality (genjutsu). And this has a higher priority than shattering them. But to explain it rather in game balancing terms.
High damage, instant cast (while doing other things), AoE damage, Condition applying and homing attack …
And if illusions die due to a missing target, they still apply their “on death” effects.

I’m sorry if my post wasn’t clear on Sword Clones; my complaint is that their attacks do not cleave multiple opponents like the mesmer auto-attacks do and the distribution of their damage is off (Chain 1- normal clone damage, Chain 2- normal clone damage, Chain 3- Abnormally low, near zero). All other mechanics of theirs are fine.
I don’t think I understand the point you were trying to make about clones and shattering either, can you re-state it? Also, clones that are ordered to shatter on a dead target will still “shatter” with no effect- meaning no on death clone effects since they are tagged as “shattering”.
I guess the sword clone not cleaving is an oversight of the sword #1 chain update. Good catch, hard to notice in the fray.
For Mimic, I’m all for a tooltip correction, it indeed is misleading.
For Decoy, it isn’t triggered by portal only. Blink put Decoy in CD all the same, and I think Veil does too. I noticed this effect on multiple skills (putting Decoy on CD), but I (stupidly) didn’t take notes at the time :/
For those motivated to test, reproduction is easy : makes sure Decoy isn’t sloted ; use a skill ; put Decoy on skillbar without replacing the reloading skill.
Torch:
1.“The Prestige” – No longer acting like a blast finisher. Stealth is still failing for no reason.
It works as Combo finisher: blast.
But. You must stand inside a field when you activate it and you must stand close enough to the same field when you reappear 3 seconds later. Otherwise the blast won’t happen.
This won’t hurt [Much]

Noticed lately that when I am in a big battle, mainly with a boss, when I cast Mirror Images, 1 or both clones pop in already dead. Not exactly useful in a battle. Any fix on this?
Image
Not sure if it’s ended to work this way but, is it normal that when I pop Time Warp during a world boss event, I do not gain the buff, even tho I tried to come in and out of the zone? May this be due to the buff being appliable only to a X number of people (like, max 10 people) and so I might not get it? Just wondering
Also, even if just visual, when you use stealth spells in succession, like veil and The prestige, you are visually not invisble but keep the buff (and mobs ignore you, so I guess it still works). This is just cosmethic tho
One last thing: clones generated on dodge do not attack my target but the nearest random enemy, even if it’s a rabbit. This becomes annoying when clones unnecessarily aggro nearby neutral mobs. Lately I’ve also noticed that sometimes they just stand in one spot, without moving or doing anything at all, like stunned, and dying on their own for no apparent reason.
Probably these were already mentioned but cba to read 13 pages of topic and the search function is a joke in this forum; whatever I type it always gives 0 results, pff.
1) Time Warp : target limit of 5, so you probably don’t get the buff because other players do.
2) Invisibility visual bug : never seen (ha ha) this problem before. Any idea on how to trigger it consistently ?
3) Deceptive Evasion targetting : as you guessed, already mentionned. A lot :P
1) Thanks for the clarification on Time Warp; I thought the reason was something similar but wanted to confirm.
2) Run through Veil and, when Veil invisibility is almost over, use The Prestige: in that precise moment you’ll have two invisibility buffs: the one from veil and the one from The Prestige. When veil buff fades, you turn visible even though you still have “The Prestige”‘s buff for the remaining 3s. However, it looks like this is just visual, since mobs don’t detect you when you got the buff. You are invisibly visible.
3) Oh well, I should have expected that such bug had been already reported, considering it happens A LOT to not be noticed.
maybe not serious but I noticed this today while reading the patch notes, polymorph tuna? what the hell is that and how come I have never seen it..oh thats right it doesnt exist on my mesmer even if I look at the hero menu under skills I see nothing.
Moa Morph is Tuna Morph underwater. It became usable underwater some times ago.
When was your screenshot taken ? It shouldn’t block you from slotting MM now, si if it does, we have a regression.
Yeah you are right in my screenshot you can see moa has an X on it but I can still select it and tuna shows up fine, its just weird how was I suppose to assume that selecting something blocked out would work? especially when this ability isnt even listed in the hero panel anywhere just odd. Screenshot is from last night.
Ok, so we at least have an UI bug here. It shouldn’t put the red X on the skill, that’s for sure.
Chaotic dampering and Illusionist celerity don’t combine.
As example:
I play with a staff, and “phase retreat” cooldown used to be 6s with those 2 traits together.
Now it remains 8s, whether I use only one of those traits or both.
There may be the same problem with other weapons traits, i didn’t test.
Is anyone getting weird values for Mind Spike? (Sword 1, end of the chain) Specifically, I don’t think the bonus damage for using it on a boonless target matches the tooltip, and neither of those match the patch notes.
I’m getting the bonus damage to be about… 20% above the base damage, and the tooltip indicates I should be getting a 33% bonus. Either way, using the values I get for the first part of the chain I’m not striking for high enough damage for the tooltips to be accurate.
It’s pretty obvious, and nobody’s impressed.
Vengeful Images is not applying it’s retaliation during it’s five second run. No damage, no retaliation indicator either.
Mind Stab: it often happens that this spell roots me in place. The recent patch lowered the aftercast root but, for some odd reason, I’m getting rooted longer.
How to reproduce? Keep running and use Mind Stab; when you are pulling out the sword from the ground, your character sometimes gets rooted (it’s more like your character doesn’t respond to commands and stays still, even though you are still moving).
It’s annoying when I have to keep running but get stopped by using this spell. Please, look into it. (It happens more often when in combat)
