I’m wondering where this rumors are coming from? Fix current condi-spamming Meta by nerfing (phantasm) Mesmers because they are outstanding in that kind of combat that is absolutely trivial in competitive tPvP. Makes sense, I guess?

Anyways: 20% damage nerf across the board would be a bit too much. You see, a Mesmer doesn’t do much damage by him/herself with auto attacks (only exception would be GS, and that thing only hits hard at a 900-1200 range). No, it doesn’t hit for 3×1,5k dmg. The whole class is designed to make damage with AI. Even shatter builds and condition builds heavily rely on Clones and Phantasms. I’ve seen some suggestions in other boards that the Mesmer shouldn’t be able to create clones on dodge when there are already 3 out there or leaving the phantasm on full CD until he dies. These are the kind of people that cry for Mesmer nerfs, and I don’t think that Anet really thinks about realizing such crazy ideas.

Back to the Phantasm (Builds): Three duelists (or other phantasms) at once is highly unrealistic. It’s possible for a short period of time, but most defensive skills/stunbreakers (Decoy, Phase Retreat, Mirror Images) or even offensive skills create a clone (Mirror Blade) and therefore kill one or two phantasms. That said, two phantasms is the most common count you’ll see against a Phantasm Mesmer. Other than that, there’s no real harm a Mesmer with such builds can do. Shatters are like a butterfly fart (and would negate all phantasm damage) and Auto Attacks hardly do anything. Now, compare with other classes. Auto Attacks are considerably strong (especially compared to Mesmer AAs), most of them have more armor, stability and whatnot. Their damage isn’t split up to some phantasms. They can deal the damage by themselves, most of the time with shorter cooldowns. Imagine the outcry if you would nerf all warrior skills by 20% dmg, after you basically upped their CD by 20%.
It’s the Mesmers class design to kite and outsource the damage.

The only thing I could imagine is that one of the “15% more damage for illusions/phantasms” traits will be changed. For those who don’t know:
Empowered Illusions and Phantasmal Strength are the traits that actually make phantasm builds really hard hitting.
The first one is a relict from the times when clones did damage by themselves. Nowadays, 15% more damage for a clone that hits with maybe 1-10 dmg doesn’t make any sense – but the trait effects phantasms as well. So you have 30% more damage with both traits. That’s maybe one thing they could change, but as I said before, a 20% damage nerf across the board would just be too much.

To some other posts:
Mesmers don’t have stability (besides one Mantra), they have invis as compensation. That may sound cool, but as a result, you can’t bunker in PvP because you obviously give up your point. Mesmers don’t have blocks on a long duration, they have ports to avoid damage. Same result, different approach and it fits well to the Mesmer theme. They wouldn’t need to port around if they could block attacks as efficient as some other classes or eat damage with a second health bar. Again, class design, and stuff.
Every coin has two sides, with pros and cons.
Also, perma invul. I lol’d hard.

Anet hates [your class], since [other classes] got buffs while [your class] only received nerfs.

what i find hardest about mesmers is targeting they real guy. i kinda can spot him, but in the mess of clones around him takes a while to click or tab the real one. and then he would clone and need to start all over again. while clicking around – its over, there is only so much time one can waste in combat for targeting.

This really is only a problem at early level play, majority of players around rank 15-20 (even if you get it from pure hot join) usually learn to see what’s what and the concept is nothing more than a minor inconvenace. There are builds that run perma stealth but they end up just hurting themself in the long run it’s kinda funny.

If you are still having this problem longer than usual just give it time and maybe even try dueling some mesmer friends eventually you’ll learn.

You can get the staff phantasm to crit for higher than that in very, very optimal situations that are nearly impossible to recreate outside of zerged PvE champions with 25 vulnerability stacks and every condition in the game on them.

kitten ? Most stunbreaks of the game, and on nice skills. Any Sword mesmer with blink and decoy (two very useful utilities) has 3 stunbreakers, 2 invulnerabilities, 1 daze, 1 cripple, vigor on crits …

Warrior stuns are on much shorter CDs than mesmer stun breaks and everyone that plays mesmer knows trying to use swap as a stun break is insanely difficult

1º 13 k eviscerate was before nerf. Actually eviscerate take me in better case 5k, no more than this.
2º eviscerate have 3 requeriments. The first are raise full adrenaline for max dmg (5k), the second are 10s cooldown, and the third are stay in melee (not tanlikg about the warrior need stay safe of blind or another dmg reductor, and the target no have with protection, aegis, auras, etc…)

- Spatial Surge hits 3x 1000 – 1500 without cooldown, and requires only stay in max range for max dmg.
- A mesmer cast 6 – 7 spatial surge in 10 seconds.
- In best case for the victim, will be 3 × 500 × 6.
- Will be 9000 dmg in 10 seconds (in best case, with low dmg, 500 instead 1000 – 1500).

Now add this to Mirror Blade, Ilusionary Berserker, Phantasm Duelist or Ilusionary swordsman… and no talking about invul, stealth, reflect, absorv, boon rip, moa bird, teleport, and more and more and more…

woah u make it sound like we all have gs, sword, pistol and another weaponswap with sword equipped with 6-8 utilities…and a traitline of 30/30/30/30/30 … exagerating much!

- i know u are checking wiki for this, but i dont know any mesmer using absorb.i tried it out after the game came out and sory it’s absolutely useless.

sry just reading off wiki what skills we all have aint gonna proof your point, most of these actually need traits in traitlines that arent used in the builds that are killing u. so might wanna play mesmer first and then come back here and whine.

A ranger longbow fires twice as fast for about the same damage (usually higher, i guess it has better power scaling) with 1500 range.

Really…l2p. Or bind your dodge key to something different from alt+f4.

Not 1 mesmer…5 at best, because all this is AoE while mesmers are a pure 1v1 class for the most part.

We use a phantasms Mesmer as a hard counter to the dreaded MSh/GS contest warrior build. It’s simply impossible to lose.

dude you describe all phantasams tath illusion memser use you wount see a illusion mesmer with staff/focuse anyway ppl a mesmer have 2 pahntasams you can easaly dodge/blind/use invunrability/obstucal and the fantasam will not pop and get the cd alwso you can interupt anyway i dont see any necros and rangars complining. you ppl build glass builds and dont know how to evade proparty and then come to forum to complain. Evry class has good 1v1 and good 3v3 builds but wen you use a build for teamfith rather then 1v1 vs some one with 1v1 build and wen you have less skil the resolt is wining for nerfs

I make my mesmer because i wasn’t endure my free kill warrior, but after last fix warrior become viable.

Mesmer GS damage should be nerfed. So should ele damage. They are not seen as much in pvp as the other 6 classes due to the meta. The other builds like sword thief, necro, ranger, stun warrior, elixr r and shout guardian all need significant nerfs. But then mesmer and ele would be OP. Because they are not bad because they are bad. They are bad because the other stuff which strongly counters them is brokenly OP.

So they need to nerf all 8 classes to differing degrees and to remove the lameness from the game. Mesmer GS damage, ele burst combo damage, necro fear, necro conditions, engi conditions, engi elixr r, all spirits, ranger traits inc emphatic bond, voice of purity, mace stun, berserker stance, sword thief evasion.

It should ALL be nerfed (alot of it got buffed recently to make the game crap and lame). The net result would be ele and mesmer are very strong. So nerfs are needed but must be accompanied by a complete reduction of power level and spam across the board. Passive and traited condi removal, condi application = all nerfed. All the lame bs evasion = nerfed.

Will this happen? Honestly no. This game was better pre-june patch. About half the OP stuff came from that patch and from later attempts to fix that patch which were a disaster. Like they have no idea. They should just send the balance back to just before june and have another go.

tl;dr – aspects of the mesmer including greatsword damage need nerfs. When these nerfs are accompanied with nerfs to other classes then the game will be less about spam and lameness and mesmer will be in a great position.

Ilusionist duelist hits harder than thief unload. Swordman and berserker do not stay far. Spatial surge taking same damage as evicerate, and without cooldown.

Actually a mesmer can easily change the tide of battle :/

The phantasms don’t need to have their strength increased and I don’t think its fair for you to use a berserker geared 30/30///* Mesmer as an example to use when saying they do too much damage. Any class with those traits are going to do crazy damage.

I know for afact if theyre damaging u that much that it has to be 30/30///* because Mesmer is my main!

10k damage is kinda ridiculous but that would require halting strike,iduelist ,and berserker as well as a Mind Wrack shatter all at once and the Mesmer would be completely defenseless afterwards unless they have a blink or decoy to get outta there

Seems to be a lot of bad players in this thread who haven’t got the memo yet that it is Necros and Spirit Rangers that they are supposed to be crying about.

Must be a lot of broken fax machines.

If it’s OP it must be a mesmer. They are probably all just wondering how we got spirit phantasms and minion phantasms.

Are you people insane?? iDuelest doing as much damage as a thief’s unload? Spatial Surge doing as much damage as eviscerate? If anything mesmer DPS needs a BUFF and no i’m not kidding.

I was roaming WvW the other night with a Mace + Shield/GS warrior who ran me through his stats., his gear was a mix of zerker, knights and cavalier. This guy had mobility, a ton of armour, could CC, could escape every single engagement we got into with his mobility and was still out damaging my FULL zerker shatter Mesmer. I certainly hope this is just a rumor, I already have to use a different profession for our roaming groups because my Mesmer is so kitten slow they have to wait for me to catch up.

I just don’t understand the continued crusade against mesmers, the constant stream of nerfs when you have warriors currently running rampant with there new OP spec, thieves still broken with their current stealth mechanic and bugs that need fixing before you look at slamming on more nerfs. I honestly believe that it’s just more horrible players complaining because they still can’t tell the difference between the real mesmer and his clones and cry nerf!!

And if you want to see what someone can really do with conditions watch a really good condition necro, ranger or even Engi do their thing.

Mesmers are very hard to kill, near perma invul + stealth + teleport + cc + moa + etc… Like a God :/

Ilusionist duelist hits harder than thief unload. Swordman and berserker do not stay far. Spatial surge taking same damage as evicerate, and without cooldown.

Actually a mesmer can easily change the tide of battle :/

That’s rich coming from a warrior. All I see in pvp anymore is warriors and rangers. Mesmers don’t need a nerf when pretty much everyone here:

agrees that mesmer is the weakest class currently.

Here, I’ll even tell you how to best a mesmer. Dodge phantasms, kill phantasms, stop foolishly killing all the clones at short range, and CC the mesmer like mad. Mesmer is extremely mobile when in combat so you’re probably gunna have to adjust your max-min, big numbers build to include some way to close the distance on a mesmer. Unfortunately for some, spamming 1 and running in circles isn’t enough when confronting a mesmer in pvp. Still can’t figure it out? Go to a dueling arena and observe.

Gotta love the clueless of some of these comments, the Spacial Serge doing as much as Eviscerate was the best. It’s funny how they ignore all the nerfs we have had the factwe arent used in TPvP, the fact we arent used much (if at all) In PAX and still say we are overpowered

Plenty of things people could do like dodge attack, dodge summon, blind, kill them but of course that is to hard for those that think of attack only and dont understand what defensive play is.

A possible change to Phantasms, remove the damage they do, This would require buffing of the class overall in damage both for us and the Clones (they would need to be doing 100+ damage) then have it so the Phantasms when used buff us in various ways.

Example would be the iLock;

They could make it so that while its active we and the clones do 10% more damage to targets for each condition the target has. Then the core of what the iLock is all about remains but the damage is moved from them to us.

They SHOULD but they won’t Casuals control who gets nerfed and thats why they are picking on the Mesmer, like Ele that was beaten into near uselessness as people refused to adapt and learn how to counter them.

The same is happening here and will continue to happen until the casuals have beaten it into just as bad a state, then they will move onto the next class.

Anet SHOULD take a stand and say something but they wont, this is a casuals game and the casuals are the ones that buy all the gems and make all the money (more then others)

A 20% damage reduction across all phantasms is unlikely but I’d happily see Phantasmal Berserker, Duellist and Swordsman getting a damage reduction in favour of a utility buff to make them more than just boring external sources of dps.

As a Mesmer, I’d be all for this. I’m not confident in ANet’s ability to do it properly as I feel everything I had played as a “utility” Mesmer continues to be toned down/nerfed, but if they could manage something interesting/worthwhile out of it I’d be willing to give it a go.

Perhaps some discussion/testing of things like this before throwing it at us on Patch Day for once. I understand why we don’t get notes/discussion early for this game, but I think it would greatly help both the players and the designers.

The simple reason that we, all Mesmer-addicted players, can barely agree on what eventual direction we’d want to see the class take. Let alone:

  • Publicly released patch discussion would then involve every forumer what cares to state an opinion
  • Then, our opinion clashing with both that of the Devs, and the sillies who think Mesmers need to be nerfed further.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d frigging love public discussion, RE: potential patches. But, from a business perspective, or a “sanity” one … this kind of thing will probably never happen.

Phantasmal Berseker needs a nerf? I am full out dps spec (including traits) and IF it hits and IF it crits, it gets up to 14k. Not a single time have I seen anything higher than that and even 14k crits happen VERY rarely. It’s usually about 10-11k.

Mesmers need to be countered with conditions and stun/ccs. Not hard to do if you put some attention on your own build rather than asking for a mesmer nerf -.-

Even with 25 stacks of might and vulnerability, iZerker shouldn’t do more than 8-9k of damage…

Trolls gunna troll, create a thread with catchy headline to hope Dev’s look, get some friends to come and make Mesmer is OP statements, yawn, while it wouldn’t surprise me if another nerf happened the reality is Mesmers are far from OP, and people need to L2P. I created a Thief to see what all the fuss was about, now that is OP, I work far less hard in WvW on my Guardian or PvE on my Warrior than my Mesmer, but I love the class, I was a Mesmer Player primarily in GW1 and was so excited when they made it to GW2, the constant nerfs have been annoying, but I love the class. Here’s to hoping the Dev’s realise after PAX that the minority whining community is wrong, and Mesmers are fine the way they are and even buff us a little.
