I think our profession will become much more valuable following the expansion as an anti-revenant counter class.
1. Revenant : Malyck stance relies on resistance to protect itself from its self-conditions.

  • Mesmer: boon rip

2. Revenant: Super awesome elites, with no cooldown, but long cast times. They temporarily give the revenant negative energy regeneration.

  • Memser: interrupt

The list goes on, but all I’ve learned about the class makes them seem like easy prey. This was our job in gw1, to burn energy, and it will be our job in gw2.

“Kentigem”-chief. Born cycle of Dusk. Wyld Hunt:
Learn as much mending and medical info as possible so that it can be added to the Dream.
Become the first Chief of Mending and guide the newly awaken as well as those who want to learn.

In before we get Power Flux as a Elite on “Chronomancer”, hehe. Honestly, what they told us so far sounded a bit overpowered to me. Like someone went a bit nuts when designing a new profession. One profession to rule them all!

I went slightly ahead of you Dondagora:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Screencap-of-all-Revenant-skills/first#post4815153

To summarize:

-No vigor
-No evade skills
-No instant teleport skills
-No swiftness or 25% speed increase
-No invulnerability skills
-Little to no Protection or Regeneration boon uptime
-No stealth
-No non-target leap skills (besides Unyielding Anguish which seems more situational and more of a peel, a very strong one at that)
-Very little condi removal
-Lack of stun breakers

Out of combat field mobility or combat disengage is little to none.
If they don’t get to use Unyielding Anguish for melee attackers (or use it that often), they seem great focus targets!
UA seems ridiculously strong btw!

But as I said in the post I linked, we have yet to see other Legends and weapons!

revenant doesnt look that op to me…

ofc we still gotta see 2 more legends ( i think its gonna be 2 more) and few weapons
but from the looks of it, revenant is gonna have lots and lots of weaknesses

Too early to tell. We’ll have to see how it plays. To counter your points:

1) Most mesmer builds are very weak to conditions
2) Revenant gets stability on dodge roll (plus, I doubt you’ll be able to interrupt upkeep skills anyways)

Necro already claims that spot bruh, just because some don’t want to use us much vs cele didn’t mean we couldn’t handle them too and we are not thief food on our boon hate specs.

That’s not true at all. The revenant has high armor, good projectile sustain with hammer, good ranged pressure, good stability upkeep and good condition transfer/immune/removal. Almost everything a necro does will be neglected by the revenant.

People seem to find the revenant quite lackluster due the lack of many defensive abilities without looking how the class is designed. Once picked for a somewhat shorter ranged weaponset, the class will shine in condition damage and therefor will most likely be tanky. Once picked with the ranged hammer, it will have amazing ranged pressure and almost constant projectile absorbtion. This in combination with goo stability upkeep, probably good healing, good condition/boon removal and transfer it probably will be something like mesmer that will beat down the revenant. This is due that mesmer GS doesn’t use projectiles and can just pew pew the revenant at 1200 units down, other than other classes that use >1000 units to attack which almost all use projectiles.

Sorry to say it but Mesmer is no hard counter to this class.

Boon ripping resistance? When trained they only gain the boon for 2 seconds on each Mallyx skill used.. keep in mind these are all 0 recharge rate and can virtually be spammed.

Also the revenant will be able to reduce damage from ranges over 600. And be able to rip boons just with critical hits..

Combine that with a far reach of in combat mobility. Heavy close and ranged pressure you basically just have a heavy the if to eat Mesmers… Just no stealth this time

I feel like Revenant will be very close to Mesmer in its capabilities and that we may counter them as well as they counter us. We’re weak to conditions, yet have the boon-stripping to make them affected by their self conditions. They can stack stability, but we have more interrupts than most classes. Their AoE is centered around itself and linear movement while our clones and phantasms hit/shatter can hit while we kite.

I feel like Revs, who are warriors who dabbled in magic, will be a long-lost brother to the Mesmer, whose a mage that chose to dabble in weapons.

This speculation is rather meaningless, but I don’t think they’ll be able to spam their legendary skills due to energy costs. I don’t know if Mesmers will be a hard counter or not, because first of all I don’t really agree that there is such a thing from a professions vs. profession point of view anyway, but “from the looks of it” we’ll certainly be in a better position to fight them using Power/Interrupt focused builds then most other profession/build combos.

Remember that the changes to Stability will be a pretty big indirect boost to Mesmers in general, and a huge boon to control-oriented Mesmer builds. Overall, control will become a more important aspect again, but very few classes have the ability to rapidly spam multiple control measures back-to-back to basically “brute force” strip Stability like we can.

Of course prior to release Anet will make the Revenant look really hot and interesting to get people excited to play them and buy the XPac, but even if they turn out as OPd as many people are already crying about before knowing even close to all details, that only means a painful road of nerfs for those who invest too deeply into them. We all know that story, don’t we? ;-)

We know less than ~30% of the profession but mesmer is already a hardcounter to it according to you. lol..

Mes might be able to strip boons but also sucks at condi cleansing, with the mobility / torment application of the revenant, mes is already in danger. If the bursty legend will have the promised mobility, then mesmer will be in real trouble, because thief will no longer be your only true hardcounter.

Looking at it, the Revenants Largest issues are likely to be Warriors with all of the passive Cheese and gap closers, Guardians and likely Rangers And Engineers.

Ele’s could also present similar problems that they do to every class in the game.

While Rev looks a bit scarey, this class is really only frightening if you’re outside of the WEEG Meta of sPvP or the GWEN of WvW.

A Class that Promises a Lot of AoE and Ranged – Scarey to mesmers and thieves
A Class with a lot of Boon stripping – kinda scarey to classes that cant boon Spam
A Class with a lot of Gap Closers and CC – Scarey to classes that need to Kite a Lot, Remember Rev also has Passive CC traits (less damage from far away targets)
A Class with the ability to negate conditions – Scarey to anyone that might need to rely on Condi Builds to get by..
Class with yet another Instant Recharge/0 Punishment for Interrupts set of skills including the Elite….

This sounds vastly threatening to Thieves, Mesmers, Necros, and offhandedly to Engineers and maybe Rangers.

It’s a bit intimidating if you run a Guardian, Warrior, or Ele but these classes are diverse enough as is to be able to mold and adapt to Revenants. Let’s not forget they’re also getting Some Specializations that might further that.

It’s a hard arguement to make without seeing the entire picture in either direction but from the small window on the revenant VS the Current Mesmer..

Revenant is a Strong Counter to Every and yes i mean Every Mesmer Spec we run.

I want to see all the skills they have access to before I decide how powerful they are. Yes, they have stab on dodge, yes, they have fast-cast skills on the right side of their bar but they have really slow cast skills as their weapons.

A lot of their skills are well telegraphed and that Hammer is as slow as mollases, though I quite like the combos I’ve come up with for it when I do get my hands on it.

I think right now, we are overstating the power of the Class. Until I see a Legend that can absolutely pull a “rekt”, I’m not buying that they can take on anyone just yet.
