Mesmer build for Roaming, Plz Critique!
https://www.twitch.tv/amazinphelix
Interrupts and reflects are forms of CC.
I don’t think people are going to have much to say about the build, but in this case that’s a good thing. It looks pretty solid assuming it uses a more Phantasm-focused playstyle.
On that note, you may get more mileage from Phantasmal Fury rather than Blade Training. Empowered Illusions is a good alternative to Halting Strike but that all depends on how often you proc interrupts.
Edit: Totally missed the “roaming” aspect of the title. x_X

From a Roaming Thief perspective, you’re an easy kill. You can stay in group with this build judging from your utility skills (feedback and mass invis), but unfortunately, you’ll have a hard time roaming with this compare to Thieves’ and Warrior’s roaming builds.
In my experience as a Thief, I respect the Staff/GS Phantom Shatter build. Other Mesmer builds are child’s play. You can’t crit what you can’t see, you can’t interrupt what you can’t see, and you can’t reflect a backstab.
But I’m open-minded on builds, you might just pull it off — who knows?
Full set of 5 unique skills for both dual-wield weapon sets: P/P and D/D – Make it happen
PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.
Well, as a roaming build this isn’t super great. Glamours are skills that generally are very underperforming in small situations, and scale incredibly well as the fights get longer. By extension, builds that have a focus on glamours perform similarly.
For taking halting strike, you’re a bit low on interrupts. GS5, focus4, and diversion are the only 3 you have, and ultimately that’s not enough to really pressure someone to make full use of interruptions.

Well 7 more days and Stealth orientated thiefs, won’t be such an issue. (No offense)
Anyways I am running the black water build, but, I want to change over to a power build but not be so glassy, any thoughts?

Permastealth thieves won’t be an issue, but they never were actually dangerous, just incredibly aggravating. Stealth is still a mechanic for thieves that is powerful and needs to be carefully dealt with.

None taken because a lot of Thieves agree, including me, that perma-stealth is a lame way to play Thieves. However, even after Dec10, your build will still have a hard time roaming. If you don’t face a Thief, what about Warriors?

So I am thinking a shatter build, I just don’t like being squishy, lol…

Having played a thief mostly in pvp you really should look at the stealth ‘updates’ as raising the skill ceiling. I liked sword and the dodging/mobility which I’m 99% sure wont be the same, so hello mesmer train.
Back to the topic of the post. So Ive mostly played a PvE Mes and this build would probably work for that… The trick to a good mesmer build is to focus on a couple of areas since mesmer is a very versatile class. From my limited experience, no Illusions trait points means careful timing of shatter abilites. There is good damage potential from phantasms (as chaos archangel mentioned) but it is quite easy for people to tell the difference between you and phantasm. Dueling X can work creating clones however with the limited amount of ‘misdirection’ I would imagine you would need nerves of steel to act like your clone (misdirection I mean stealth, blink, portal etc). This does seem like a workable build for a havoc squad though.
I dont know if that helps any… Still trying to work out a build I like myself.
