I know one of the dev’s is very fond of his Mesmer…but in the next balance patch shatter Mesmer needs reigned in.. quite a bit.

Maybe explain in detail why Mesmer needs to be reigned in and how to do so without killing off the class? Just a “QQ Nerf!” thread is anything but productive.

The most recent balance patch is another nail in the coffin of WvW. While in PvP things are SLIGHTLY (and only slightly) more rounded, WvW is a complete and total mess for the following reasons related to the classes:

Elementalist: average player utilizing full aura build takes over 10 people focusing to down. Recently with a 20 man zerg, another commander actually walked away from a tower because nobody could damage the freaking elementalist beyond a quarter of it’s hp. Seems insane, but is incredibly easy to recreate.

Thief: I’m expecting that next patch they will rename this class to Eunuch. Lowest effective armor by far in the game, lowest effective damage overall (yes staff can hit hard…if it hits, but less frequent and for less effect than other classes) even when running the tankiest possible builds. Thief is designed to get in and out of a fight quickly…high risk, high reward…. only now there is no reward. If you’re getting taken out by a thief in WvW, and you’re not playing a thief, something is wrong with your build. (I’m saying this as someone who mains thief). I’ve run both full condi, and full dps… the class has become completely ineffective.

Mesmer: Condi-shatter Mesmer is the winner of this latest patch. With the possible exception of the aura elementalist, an average player can melt just about anything, oftentimes with only their clones being visible. They’ve also got the toughness now, so if you’re playing this class you’re likely a happy camper after latest patch.

Guardian: Traps are back with an annoying vengeance, without having to sacrifice toughness like when they first debutted. While not as clear a winner as some this patch. Still out of touch in WvW.

Ranger: Another one that I haven’t noticed a huge difference in play. They are still pretty much invincible in an underwater fight because their pet heals faster than 3 people can deal damage, but this patch doesn’t appear to have drastically changed their regular m.o.

Revenant: Broken. It doesn’t seem like they actually improved much of anything with revenant… the things that could use improvement they left untouched… so will be interesting to see next patch.

Warrior- currently gets my vote for most busted class. They’ve been put on scout duty because they can go afk until they hear something on that monitor… by then they’ll be at about 50% health… pop their invuln and walk away. Yet they can still oneshot a thief while they are still running their shield protection skill.

Necromancer: Minion master is insane. That is all.

Overall what all this powercreep (for most classes) has led to are these ridiculous zerg battles and siege humps… where your warriors, ele’s and necro’s can’t really kill each other, if they even fight open field. It’s reducing turnover in a game mode that desperately needs life injected into it. In PvP, people build for the most damage in the shortest period of time, in WvW they build nowadays simply to live as long as possible, damage be kitten ed. Anet would do well to examine some of the game-breaking defenses of most the classes, (and while they are at it, examine the classes that have none) and come out with an update sooner than later. WvW currently has gaping wounds, and those little band-aids that you use on a papercut are not going to help it.

Here’s the explanation you guys need “thief main”.

Mesmer is fine. Power shatter still isn’t a thing, all good condition amulets were removed, alacrity was halved, well of precognition was deleted, quickness doesn’t affect res stomp, and Moa was cut 40%. I’m not sure what else there is to nerf. Also thief has the #2 dps…?

I’m seeing power shatter in nearly all the Mesmers in pvp, done right it can do 17-20k in one burst. Personally I like the other meta better as it has more evasive skills, when you go into 3-4 matches in an all but 1 of them 4 of the other team and 2 on your team are Mesmer, you’ve found the out of balance class. I haven’t found a good counter for it yet and from conversations with others they haven’t either. It’s the double whammy of damage and conditions that’s out of whack.

Great,youre seeing Power shatter in all games now,huh? I dont know…could it be that it is a class mechanic to shatter the Illusions because the Dmg is so kittening low? Ever Evading Thiefs that you cant hit is not a thing? Thiefs hit 4 15k without any rampup time…Mesmer has the lowest damage in the Game…so cry anywhere but here.

Seriously, U have problem to win a fight with power mes as a thief. Man U need to do something wrong. Only times when I had easy wins with thiefs was on my condi mes (confusion realy hurt when U spam autos), on power mes I was lucky if I survive first burst and I’ve run away.

Its a pretty good bet the OP has played very little PvP and is talking out the poo hole. He probably got wrecked and is coming to cry. The level of constructive feedback on the class shows a marked lack of understanding or comprehension.

So, nothing has changed in 3 years.

Power mesmer is underpowered right now. Only with condition mesmer can I take down good warrior, revenants, druids, etc. The strong classes ya know. But condi stands above them all. However, power cant take any of them. It is very weak right now no pressure and easy to dodge burst.

Lol had a Druid complaining at me for kiting around rocks in WvW this evening on my power shatter Mesmer. Guy was sword/axe – staff spamming stealth almost every 5s and when not stealthed using the many evades he has whiles healing all my burst that I could land. Then changes to signet of the wild and strength of the pack when he realises I’m running power block.

Kept whispering me making out I was rubbish, lol. People actually are getting carried hard by many builds especially HoT specs. Think I’m going to return to my routes and play base Mesmer for a bit.

That Druid was probably just upset that you refused to stand still and allow it to carry on auto-attacking with staff. Because that’s exactly what you do with Druid staff – auto-attack over and over again and wait for Bristleback rapid fire to come off cooldown. It’s so dull that I just can’t use it on my Ranger anymore.

Oh I agree. A class of such low personal DPS shouldn’t be so reliant on such a buggy and unwieldy mechanic. I mean if illusions worked like those Mesmers in the new zone who are invulnerable until their illusions are destroyed but those cause full damage and have full health (in return the Mesmer just dies in 1 hit once illusions are all down) that’d at least feel Mesmer-y.

Not sure where you get that idea, mesmer easily does 20k plus dps in an individual dps build.

You’re trying to compare I think an individual dps build of other classes against a mesmer raid support build. The build provides quickness/alacrity to a group that, when added up, makes mesmer total dps contribution massive. So it really doesn’t need to be buffed.

Doesn’t really change the point. And I know that’s not Mesmer “raid role”, and I love playing support so it works for me, but people complaining about “omg nuuuurf shatter bcuz I ded and dats not gud” is a bit stupid when they whine about the weakest DPS class.

Yes burst kills people. Surprise there, totally wouldn’t have expected that. And yes, sPvP is not what you want to play if you want to play a balanced game mode. Surprise there, it’s a 5v5 in a game with 9 classes, who would have thought that it might be inherently unbalanced?

It feels like people expect the weirdest things despite what common sense says…
