I think I saw a mesmer using a shield in the trailer… That would be AWESOME! Tormented Shield, here I come!

Shield is cool, was kind of hoping for another main hand weapon though as we only have 2 options vs the 4 for offhand.

Please could there also be a mainhand option?

We have too many off hands and not enough mainhands. I would love to go shield/focus.

I think that might be the case, but the thing is.. my two guesses are:

• It is a channeled ability, similar to Ele’s Churning Earth. At the beginning of the AoE field it definitely slowed the mobs, and then it looks as if it creates a persistent field, similar to Chaos Storm or Temporal Curtain, which either has a pulling effect or continues to cripple/slow (Ethereal field maybe?) at the end of the channel, it explodes for damage. It’s hard to tell if the creatures were knocked down or killed by the move ( 1:30 )

• It’s a two-part ability like Illusionary Leap and Temporal Curtain, laying down a persistent slowing/damaging field that you can shatter for damage. If I let my imagination roam, I’d say this could be a BLAST finisher. If I reaalllyy let it roam, that shatter effect may actually be linked to our actual shatters? doing power damage on [F1], Confusion [F2] AoE Daze [F3] and AoE Distort [F4]? Duration likely wouldn’t be linked to how many clones we have and would likely be treated as if a 1 clone shatter.

New weapons are great! However, I hope we don’t just get a new shield. Mesmers already suffer from too many off-hand and not enough main-hand weapons. We really need another main-hand weapon, given how much the sword has been nerfed and how limiting the scepter is to use.

shield is great, but idk how badly i’ll want to jump on top of it provided i still have to figure out if i want to use the neutered sword or the dumb scepter… I would have preferred 1 new main handed weapon and no shield…

provided that it sounds like Anet is only giving each class 1 new weapon to play with… I’m… not as excited as i want to be :\

It’s possible this spec will feature AoE field illusions to replace the clones and phantasms. Maybe one of the F1-4 skills bursts all your bubbles with a knockdown effect?

Considering that the current mesmer is so single-target focused, making the spec into an AoE build would fit right in line with the whole “completely changes how you play the profession” thing.

I think there’s a little to much creative license to distinguish anything from the previews… (Unless your talking about the streams which I haven’t had a chance to see yet)

As cool as a new main hand would be I don’t want ANOTHER ranged main hand or two hander. >> I get the desire for pistol but if that turns out to be our only new wep I’d be super disappoint.

I can finally use my Fractal Shield.

There is an npc mesmer that uses a shield at Augur’s Grotto, her name is Alexandra Duet.

You can challenge her to a duel for a skill point.

I remember ages joking how to go along with GS being our ranged weapon that we should actually get main hand Shield as a one handed power ranged weapon.

Not really, considering those other classes don’t suffer from the lack of viable mh weapons like mesmers do. This is an opportunity to fix a problem…not so much focused on equity.

Just changing to the specialisation gives you new utilities,heal,elite,traits so just the shield wouldn’t matter your MH would change as well.

It’s a different class somehow my guess are 5 based on trait lines for easier balance. Not sure if you can change back but the specialisation has specific weapon(s) and previous traits wouldn’t sink with news skills and alike but uncertain.

Five!? That’s awesome, they do any grinding for you?
I got serveral super skins too, but the Shield never appealed to me until i looked at it wielded, the glow is very stronk.

I’m pretty sure that skill is not a sheild skill and is a utility.
Why? It doesn’t incorporate the sheild at to cast. The spell doesn’t relate to the sheild at all. If it is a sheild skill I will be disappointed

WoW yet another off-hand..
I’ve noticed that most of if not all the other classes are getting a main hand weapon, but the mesmer is getting another off-hand. Lets look at the 2 we get now. The scepter is situational at best, and the sword is just meh. I’m for you guys just nerfing the greatsword just a bit more so that everyone will quit playing mesmers all together.

Yes I think I will play the Guardian using the Longbow now.. You’ve made my choice quite clear. Thanks.

yea, Anet is pretty biased against Mesmers, shield OH = LOL, and probably the skills will be bypassed by thieves like the GM trait power block…
