So mesmers and thieves are both stealthy classes judging by all the abilities, I am just wondering why its much harder for us mesmers with stealth, where we have to trait 30 points to get longer stealth, and thieves automatically get it at 15.
Also ours are much bigger cooldowns and we don’t have a stealth healing skill, which is fair since thieves don’t have elite skills, but ours are way larger cooldowns and we can’t trait for any bonuses in stealth except XII in Chaos. Any reasons why our stealth are not as good as thieves’?
Because we’re not meant to pop in and out of stealth, that and the Thief stealth spam is typically using Dagger/Pistol.
Understandable, shouldn’t we get like move faster in stealth or regen health in stealth though?
I’d say no, we shouldn’t. I’ll try to explain. My main is a mesmer. But lately I was leveling my necro for some AoE WvW purposes (and ele was not that interesting to me). Now with the necro, I can see the already huge advantages with the stealth we have. I so often wish, I could use decoy or mass invisibility. Even Veil would be awesome.
Although the mesmer stealth is nothing compared to the thief, it is already really powerful. You start understanding this, when u play a profession, that does not have such stealth skills.
What imho needs a fix though is Prismatic Understanding. I tried several builds, that might be able to utilize this trait, but it all seemed not very effective. So from my point of view, this trait is not worth it. If they’d remove it and exchange it with another, more helpful trait, that would be fine to me. I don’t think mesmer needs more stealth improvement.
Just an opinion though
Yeah, Decoy and Mass Invisibility can get you SOOO much distance from a zerg. If you run Torch in your offhand, you shouldn’t die unless you get nuked since you can easily put distance by juking.
Protip to jukes: Always go where they don’t expect you to.
@Esplen, amen to that last. Also, mesmer can accualy dps in stealthed mode. Drop a phantasm and mass invis, dodge 2 times and blink away and kow you can see your enemy fight clones. while you stand at save distance.
Yeah, I was doing what Osicat said while intentionally running into small enemy zergs a while back. I was actually running Osicat’s Shattercat Sword/Sword + Staff build, but I did a modification of the traits and swapped the second sword for a Torch for ease of use in fights. My damage output was dropped slightly, but my survivability went up the roof due to most people in zergs not thinking for themselves.
Stealth is a major part of the thief mechanic. For us, it’s just another mindgame in a grabbag full of them.
ok my main is a mesmer what I got to say about it is yes a mesmer isnt really ment for stealthing. we dont do bonnus damage from getting out of stealth but what is nice about a mesmer is the fact that their stealth is mostly ment as a group decoy or getting to another area safly in TA I always run mass invisibility because of some of the scrap mobs but I always want a theif while I run in TA. my opinion is I wouldent use a mesmer for the idea of stealth I would rather have them be more of a crowd control and confusion.
My pvp gameplay is based around stealth with Decoy, Mass Illusion, and Torch offhand.
And the 6 illusions I tend to have running around.
Thieves have better stealth because their mechanics involve attacking from the sides or behind, and stealth is their main theme.
Our main theme is mindgames, having 3 clones out (and 3 running at you ready to shatter) in addition to being able to break targets and re-position with stealth and teleports.
We can’t stealth like Thieves the way Warriors/Thieves can’t shoot as good as Rangers.
Stealth is a very optional thing for Mesmers. For Thieves it’s a built in aspect of their profession, each of their Weapon set’s #1 skills changes to a special stealth attack while Stealthed… Even their downed state #1 skill changes in this fashion. So they have numerous and more reliable ways to get stealth.

I think Stealth altogether needs to be removed, its a broken mechanic that is abused becuase of the games mechanics – along with mass zergs in WvW that will kill the other people simply coz of the lag and the fact that they dont appear for WAY to long – again broken mechanic

Arent they giving (or so i have heard) Portals to every class? thats the WRONG way to go, its meant to be a classic specific thing – why not give every class elemental summons? or Pet summons? or 100Blades?
If hey give every class a Portal they MUST make it so that Mesmer Portal is better – either with a shorter cool down, unlimited number of uses while making other classes having say a 10 character limit or something
