So, probably discussed before but I was wondering if anyone used Mimic in their builds? At first I stayed away from it for a long time, because other skills just seemed to be better to have. But I’ve been wvwing a lot… this skill from what I am told, from what I read/understand and from trying it out today blocks all attacks for four(+?) seconds after absorbing the first projectile, if you don’t send it back yet. You can move while having this shield and blink and what not as well. It also has a super short CD and feels almost spammable.

Personally, while not configured to support a team or zerg, while being more focused on self, roaming, solo, etc, I find it quite useful and helps tank/keeps the survivability up, even amidst a big enemy zerg. While sieging towers or keeps and being barraged by projectiles and whatnot, it can help block a lot of attacks. Also its another oh no! button. With staff Chaos Armor combos and chaos storm, and stealth and stun breaking blinks, distortion, blurred frenzy, like we can literally be “invuln” or close to “invuln” most of the time :O

Question though because I haven’t used it alot yet, does it literally block all attacks including melee and other “magic” for example a mesmer gs autoattack? Of course you still take condition damage no doubt. But this seems very useful, esp with the short cd, and really brought up my survivability and tanking ability even while i rushed in all suicidal into an enemy zerg xD Mesmer friends and I might argue that theres better skills, but for self-protecting/self-centered situations, it feels very useful. How do you find it, would you use it or do you already use it?

It blocks everything, even gtaes! Also you can activate block portion off your own projectile i.e. staff1 and gs2, won’t be able to use it in echo though.

Now bouncing is good again, it is a nice skill, especially because it’s not so obvious as feedback.

Haven’t used it in a while mind you, but I always have a soft spot for that skill.

Used it once for teamplay. The block is amazing and satisfying seeing ur char block block block.

But the prob is since i;m Hitter in my P. Using a mimic means not attacking for 4s which cause my P Damage droped.

As for block part. I think mimic can;t block no damage crowd control skills. Like EL static field or Enginer Magnet. Even Aegis boons can’t protect from Enginer Magnet, probably mimic does too

I think there are some builds that use this with the trait that gives retaliation for blocks, in heavy ranged scenarios (i.e. wvw) to stack long duration retaliation. Haven’t played with it much, but it certainly improves survivability…not much use vs necro marks and wells, which seems to be about all I’m seeing in wvw these days.

To clarif, it doesn’t block for 4 seconds after a successful catch. It blocks for the remaining duration of mimic, which is at most 4s (if you catch a projectile immediatly). And it is a standard block, so it block everything blockable, but let through everything that isn’t (ranger traps, traited necro marks…). Any successful CC will stop the block channel, so don’t step on a necro fear mark

I used it for quite a while in sPvP, it’s really useful to counter rangers, staff mesmers (or ones with duelist phantasm) and p/d thieves also really good way to learn animations for other professions and the projectiles they use as you have to time it just right.

It’s also useful as often people will try to burst you down quickly if you can catch a projectile they will waste their burst on you as well as damage themselves instead with the reflect and you can then take them down.

I don’t think it will hold up in highly competitive situations as you’d be better off with with things like blink or portal but mimic is definitely a really good utility in sPvP for hotjoins.

It has it’s uses. Use it when approaching a zerg which turned around to you, or use it in the Dredge Fractal while standing in front of the party.
