This is a build ive been running to great success in PvP and WvW recently

This is a different build then normal because you have 0 passive defense its all active defense, also you are either building for your clones to stay alive and do damage and conditions, or be killed (or replaced due to more clone generation)and still do damage and add conditions (one random condition and confusion thanks to confusing combatants (dueling 25) and debilitating dissipation (Chaos V).The build is based on your clones doing bleeding with every hit and you criting every 7 out of 10 hits

But this build isn’t really a power build its more a condition build as you do not want to use shatter unless u need a quick spike or an active defense (distortion f4)

Your clones have every time they crit they produce bleeding this by itself is a lot of pressure but also when your clones are killed or replaced (not shattered) they add confusion and a random condition

Stealth is big in this build.It procs Prismatic Understanding which gives protection, regeneration, or aegis every second while in stealth.this helps you when you are getting low on life and helps reduce incoming damage by a good bit with the block and the protection.

Your scepter/pistol is your main and offensive set for this build. First is the number 2 block that does torment(this seems bugged at the moment by not doing the double damage when target is moving(or seems that way anyways) this blocks and gives a condition and produces a clone.
2nd is the #3 beam attack that crits a lot and is actually good damage but also stacks more confusion.
The #1 skill is a clone producer you use when u need more clones coming down.the pistol 4 is your main clone you try to have up at all times. its your heavy hitter in this build giving great damage and bleeds almost every hit.The #5 on pistol is for a few things first its a great stun for stopping heals or any big cast you can see coming also its a get out of jail free card when you need that one or 2 seconds to get a heal off or switch weapons

The sword/torch is actually your defense set in this build. the torch 4 is another stealth that procs prismatic understanding. The 5 skill is another condition clone(literal treat it like this because the damage is not great, but its an extra clone and does confusion so it either has to be killed or your target gets even more condition damage).The sword 3 is your jump that can be used bot offensively or defensively. its a jump that can get you out of situations you just don’t want to be it but it also can set you up for sword 2 that is also an evade plus a big hitter. the sword 1 is actually the last thing you want to be using but it does good damage when you have to use it

The utilities are all defensive but play dual roles. First off you have the heal skill ether feast since you will almost always have 3 clones out

You have an open skill used to personal preference (i usually use arcane thievery and Chaos III for boon stealing against mess,ranger,guard,necros and condition wipe against ranger, necro,mess,eng)this slot really can be used for a lot of different things though just based on personal play style.

It uses decoy for stealth (procs prismatic understanding) so you get a solid defensive plus boons out of it, but also to set up a iduelist or image followed by sword 3 and 2.

I think one of the best under used utilities skills gets used in this build and this is signet of Domination.Domination is a huge boost to this build first off when not on cool down its 180 extra condition damage!This is a huge boost to damage for this build.2nd though its also a stun on a 30 second cool down!!! this thing is clutch it a lot of matches

Then you have MOA which is just a straight out tide turner in 1v1

There are some changes for the wvw build because you want to start becoming a ninja for keep retakes but also help in the zerg while staying true to the build so we change utilities to Decoy, Veil, and Portal along with Mass Invis.

You take Chaos VIII to help get some might stacks on you with pistol 5 and help the zerg by putting someone in stun which usually means death. You also change your 10 points in illusion to 10 points in inspiration and take trait II to get you a faster Portal and Veil.

With the WvW version of this build you are still able to solo and small group as well thanks to all the invis and portal bombing ( even solo portal bombing is a blast to do and gets you more kills due to well portal being portal)

I think the Mesmer forums are unique in that we have all these elaborate names for our builds which is pretty appropriate for our class.

- Its rather hard to read all of that post as one big essay. It’d be a much bigger help if you could perhaps divide the post into something like BUILD, GEAR/SKILLS/FOOD, and then PLAYSTYLE to make it easier to sort through quickly and more appealing to browse? Just a suggestion.
- You say Signet of Midnight (Boon Duration) I think you mean Signet of Domination?
- Illusion III doesn’t work for condition damage unfortunately.

I’m not too strong on condition builds, but it looks nice.

see thats the thing this isnt a pure condition build your illusions hit hard due to having a 90% crit chance with 2320 power 33% crit damage your looking at around per phantasm somewhere in the 3990 power range(90% crit at 1.83 damage = ~1.72 multiplier*2320)

the above link is crit damage to crit percent

about the 3 trait is there for your damage to be boosted (scepter 3 sword 1,2 pistol 5) 9% is not a bad damage upgrade at all

It makes you target either kill you and take damage form the clones/phant’s damage and conditions or go after your clone and take damage form you and the conditions the clones put out due to being killed. Since you will be doing 70% crit chance along with 33% crit damage and 9% inc damage due to ill 3 and 3 clones/phants out you do some respectable damage without the conditions

Its looks like a nice con / hybrid dmg build and i would love to kick some face with it in wvw . Sadly wvw (atleast for me) isnt playable without either swiftness on demand (Centaur runes ) or the mediocre focus (which i rarely use if not zerg fights).

Torment doesn’t do “double damage” when moving. It simply deals damage twice as fast while enemies are moving. It’s working as intended.

Example: If it does 30 damage a tick and they’re not moving. When they are moving it still does 30 damage a tick, but it ticks twice as fast (it actually just deals 30 damage twice on each tick).
