I have been using http://www.destinysedge.net/fay/mesmer/panacea.html build but im not sure if its out of date or not. I would like to keep my mesmer in a supportive role through dungeons and fotm. If anyone has some advice or an up to date build that fits that description it would be very much appreciated!

My personal favorite is my paladin build (in my signature), but there are many great builds to chose from there.

very cool…. is that post one build? or r there a few sprinkled in it?…. so much written its hard to tell lol….

scratch that last comment i made… i found them…. im liking the paladin and chaos maestro builds…. r they both up to date? i only ask bcuz im not sure how much anet has buffed or nerf’d the mesmer class…. my main is a engi and we all know how thats gone the last few months…

Yep yup. Both of them are up-to-date. (Mostly.. I haven’t edited the Chaos Maestro to account for the Chaos Armor change just yet, but everything else is pretty much good.)

awesome ya i was looking the chaos maestro over and i really like it… i mean fay’s support has been fun but i dont feel like im helping as much as i’d like…. the healings pretty good and if i can get close to the enemy or have a guardian in grp the boon sharing is good and i can keep up 25 stack might pretty frequently but its been alil harder to boon share lately and im looking to try another option.

I tried a chaos maestro variant. It worked great as pve support or wvw support

0-20-30-20-0
4 runes of altruism, 2 runes of water
Full Clerics gear
Null field, feedback, (blink for pvp, boon signet if in pve.)

You’re main goal is to chain chaos armor over and over. Once you practice it you can have 80% chaos armor up time. Then spread your boons with the signet.

Great for CoE stacking style fights. You’ll put permanent regen on your party.

Don’t forget 2 sigils of battle & Chocolate omnomberry cremes (I bet if my Mesmer wasn’t a Sylvari, he’d have acne/diabetes issues with all these sweets)! Combined with the Runes of Altruism thats an easy 9 stacks of might.

I have a strong love/hate relationship with runes of Altruism. Theres no better way for a Mesmer to reliably give out AoE fury without it, and the 15% boon duration is sweet.. But theres so many other ways to trait for boon duration (2x Sanctuary, 2x Monk, 2x Water for max boon duration, 6x dwayna for awesome regen, the might runes) that I’m always tempted to try other runes.

With Altruism in Chaos Maestro tho, you’ll always be dishing out Might, Fury, Swiftness, Regen, Retaliation, reliable, and Aegis/Protection a bit randomly (unless you spec Prismatic Understanding). Just remember that, in addition to the boons you’re throwing up strategic reflects, dropping burst heals on lower HP allies (Thieves, Mesmer, Elementalists, Engineer, Ranger. Mantra of Pain >> Mantra of Recovery >> Mantra of Pain for over 8k heals in a burst) while maintaining Chaos Armor the majority of the time.

Its a very active support build with lots to do (except, well, damage.. depending on your armor. Ive run it with Zerker, but Knight’s gear is a nice sweetspot if heals aren’t much priority).

So it does take a bit of practice to really get the hang of, and make sure your group knows “Heals on Me. High regen from Phantasms. Boons on [Chaos Storm]” and you’ll start seeing much better teamwork. Support builds tend to be more effective the more social you are.

Yeah, I see why they did what they did to chaos armor.

Chaos armor was nerfed for dps builds but buffed quite a bit for support builds.

I still think our support is a little too weak though. While support builds are amazing for wvw and pve you still don’t see them in spvp.

To be honest I think feedback, time warp, warden/curtain reflects, signet of inspiration and mass invisibility are enough support.

I think thats more of a stigma than a fact. I feel that since the prevailing idea isbthat support builds are poor in sPvP, everyone simply accepts that as fact without much testing or research. Several months ago support builds in general had a negative view if it wasnt coming from a Guardian or Elementalist. People accepted that as simple fact, anfbthus Mesmer, Warrior, Engineers & even Necros support was frowned upon.

Builds/vids had to come out to break that steriotype, and I think the same can happen for sPvP. I dont think anyone has really sat down for a month in tournaments and really put the energy into crafting an ideal Mesmer support build.

I’ve been working on a form of Bunker that can match Guardians. Torn between 20/20/0/30/0 and 0/0/10/30/30 (Maybe put that 10 in Dueling). I see the potential for some great stuff there, and really wanna study what makes the top builds prevaliant.. Gonna be interviewing some top players soon.

Support builds are a different playstyle. Different thrill, different mentality, different kinda fun. Any build can (and should) incorporate SOME kind of support.

lol kitten sooo much info…. ya i think my issue is not bein able to keep things up 80% or w/e the number r for like fay’s support…. i mean when im in stackinng fights ive got just about everything up the whole fight but other times i struggle to get even 5 boons up… now ive been using mantras in the build im using now, and it heals only on the initial cast right?… not when u cast the charges?….

If you rune the boon duration build then the trick is this. Get the 20% cdr for glamour skills.

Use chaos storm, staff 2.
Use chaos armor
Use null field, staff 2
Use feedback, staff 2
(obviously you can use sword 3 as well)

Chaos storm should be up by now, rinse repeat and use your sigil to spread boons.

You should be able to keep chaos armor up 5 out of every 7 seconds or there abouts.
