New mesmer with ? about clones.
Clones are only shatter-munitions, though they can help a little bit if you have Sharper Image. Phantasms are the illusions that does damage.
It’s not an error. They do hit for 0.
The mesmer has two types of illusions: Clones and Phantasms.
Clones serve the role of deception and shatter fodder. They are able to withstand 1-2 hits, maybe 3 if you’re lucky or using the Signer of Illusions to beef them up. They act as protection to you and your phantasms. They do non-existent damage, if any.
Phantasms serve the role of dealing damage and shatter fodder. They are very fragile, and can die from a single AoE hit. Each phantasm does its attack, and then has a cool down period (at least 5 seconds) before initiating another attack. They are designed to deal good damage, and then be used in a shatter once the mesmer can replace them.
When you obtain an off-hand weapon, or a two-handed weapon, you will get access to Phantasm skills. In the mean time, if you are just using a sceptre and no off hand, you will have to deal damage through abilities and shattering your clones.
You need to hit f1 or f2 to shatter the clones to do real damage. Depending on your weapon, some clones to a little better than others with auto-attacks.
It’s a bit cruel to stick people with the scepter as the first weapon as it’s one of the more challenging weapons to master. Staff, sword, and GS are all easier to work with.
I use staff, so my clones do A LOT of damage actually, because they stack conditions on their autoattack which is Winds of Chaos, when i have three or two up and a phantasm as thats how i usually start, things build up really fast and you have tons of dps from that, but the actual direct damage is mostly 0 from clones.
I have a question though, i have the trait where illusions do 15% more damage, does that mean my clones do like some damage now? XD
I suggest staff if you want to use clones for more purposes, they help a ton, i can just attract aggro, run around while my clones are stacking conditions… and they’ll just die even if i do nothing xD if they target my clones then ill just put new ones up. but i like getting the aggro myself which i usually do in PvE. Once i have my clones and phantasms long range i can set up a melee warden, rush in and melee which deals incredible burst dps
Other weapons clones dont do so much. sword clones for example cripples, but thats about it
Clones also deal damage. This damage is scaled to yours. I think it’s like 2% of what you deal. So don’t complain with a lvl5 char about game mechanics.
And here I didn’t even mention Conditions on attack, on death or on shatter.
clones are meat puppets. You either shatter them or they take a hit for you.
Ahh OK – finaly got it thanks folks
Its a tricky class to get used to thats for sure..
Very squishy to begin with – but I can see some advantages to it further down the line when its build up a little.
