New to 80, what are some optimal PvE builds?

I had seen that thread, but with some of the posts not being updated for a few months, and patches changing around builds, I questioned their viability. I thought I’d ask anyways while still looking around on that page and reading the comments.
I see
I think shatter and phantasm builds are still popular and powerful despite some minor setbacks from nerf patches.
If you’ve been checking the forum regularly, there is a growing number of new condition and interrupt builds which can lend themselves to support roles quite good in group fights.
Check out my condition build if you’re interested: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/condition-build-The-Clone-Spammer/page/2#post2370617
Also, I’m trying an interrupt build at the same time. Here’s a link:

IMO, a common, no frills, get-used-to-it build for new level 80s is something like 20/20/0/5/25. You will get spoiled at once more getting your phantasms and clones recharging at the speeds we were used to.
15% damage to illusions, 20% CD recharge for the GS. Fury for phantasms, clone-on-dodge. Five points in Inspiration for Retaliation (it is hardly needed now it is not perma anymore, dump where you’d like, including Illusions and get another major trait). 3% more damage per illusion, extra bounce.
I found this to be a great ranged character. Stay away, churn out your damage, hardly ever leave GS, when having three illusions up and Mirror Blade + iZerker are almost up, shatter. For most things it serves, despite what more hardcore gamers might say. PvE is not difficult until high-ish level Fractals and this sort of simple playstyle lets you pay attention to the battlefield which is important when new and learning the dungeons.
I have changed to something I call the healzerker. Same traits, except the 25 in Illusion become 30 in Inspiration. I picked healing removes a condition, mantra recharging heals and phantasms have more 20% HP.
This is because I felt I twiddled my thumbs too much while waiting for cooldowns. The gear layout is the same as before, full berserker gear from head to toes, but I swapped my third utility for Mantra of Pain. I toss Mirror Blade, toss iZerker and then I spam Mantra of Pain. Each time it recharges it heals everyone around me for 2.6k plus my phantasms churns out regen to anyone close to *him.
The Mantra takes three seconds to recharge, which is three seconds we are not attacking and can be interrupted if we need to dodge. But once charged the Mantra can go off without interrupting any of your attacks, be it using your skills or using auto-attack, so those seconds in which we did not attack are now compensated.
To be honest 2.6k won’t save your team if they did not dodge, but you can churn those heals every 5 seconds. Coupled with phantasms throwing regen and not slacking off means HP bars can be topped off and most conditions don’t even need to be cleansed as their HP loss is compensated.
I know shatter and phantasm builds are viable in PvE. I’ve made a hybrid build that can use both along with power and condition damage.
However, my builds do use mainly scepter/pistol, but it can use any of the other weapons as its second weapon set. If scepter or pistol isn’t your thing, no worries, you can swap out the traits to use others.
Most old builds are still viable, just remove the 5 illusions points (if the build has them) and put them somewhere else ^^

Thanks for the build! I switched over to this last night and really enjoyed it. Felt a lot better to me than what I was using before. I’ll most likely be sticking with something like this.

Interesting. How does a build like this compare to the one that was posted above? Is it simply just having more raw damage in place of condition damage, or is there a different playstyle to it? I’ll look into this one as well. Thanks!
