Noob friendly PVP build?
PU condition.
Carpboy means this build right here. It’s a stealth-heavy condition build that is capable of fighting several opponents at once and rarely loses 1v1s. Great for a beginner, but is also very predictable so some people will not fall for your shenanigans. Also, people will flame you for running an “easy noob build,” but then that usually comes after you defeat them. Ignore that stuff, it’s irrelevant, what matters is you enjoying yourself and who are they to demand you play the game by their perspective?

Thank you! I get enough flaming from playing a D/D thief, so I don’t mind.

edit: oh he removed the videos, thats a shame
Any ideas on how to update that build for current day? It’s set on WvW mode so it’s not exactly clear what to pick for PvP.
He also uses a Sigil of Corruption for condi stacks and only has one sigil on the 2 handed staff. Finally, there are no Perplexity runes to choose from for PvP.

I have the specific PU condition build variant that I recommend in PvP listed in my solo queue guide here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Guide-A-Mesmer-Guide-to-Solo-Queue/first#post4060868

Hello Mesmer forums! I’ve recently started playing my Mesmer again and I’d like to take him into spvp for fun. But, I’m a really bad Mesmer! So what a noob friendly PVP build I could learn the class with?
Just recently I jumped into the GW2 PvP with my Mes, so I’m a newbie too. After the first many deaths I thought that a PU build would increase my chances to win, so I tried one, but I don’t like the stealthy gameplay, so I tried a few other builds and weapon sets and I still haven’t found “my” pvp build. I never use the stealth skills in PvE, so it happened that I also had more success with non-stealth builds in pvp.
In my case it seems to be less about the build, but more about the weapon skills and utilities I have to learn to use in different ways at different times compaired to pve.
So from another beginner’s point of view: the build alone won’t ease things if you do not like to play it, your favourite one will be the most successful and satisfying, but to find out your favourite one you have to try a few different setups.
Why would you play a PU build in pvp? you don’t help your team as you can’t hold points or cap points from stealth. Seems like a PU mesmer would be an instant handicap for the team. Unless you can kill enemies quickly and get them off the points. I dunno I don’t really pvp much so pvp vets feel free to chime in

Because a good PU Mesmer isn’t always in stealth and doesn’t overrely on it. A lot of Mesmer builds actually have a hard time fighting on point due to AoEs and other stuff so it’s not uncommon for a Mesmer to jump on and off the point when trying to kill an enemy; effectively the same result as stealthing from time to time.
People dismiss PU builds on the surface because of this, but the fact is that it really comes down to the player behind the build and how well they can perform.

yeah PU condition is definitly the easiest build in general to run with, I like 0/6/6/2/0 with balthazar runes. When I run that I only lose 1v1 to an overload of burst, but not from thieves usually, they are torment fodder. I lose to condi-bomb terrormancer that will corrupt my aegis into burning and have me feared running into a wall for 8 seconds with 10 conditions! But then again they get easily focused and dispatched in team fights, so it all balances out
Other than that, the only other weakness to PU condition mesmer is that they don’t have a lot of soft CC or ways to keep enemies from just running away. You just have blink, and the possibility of chaos storm to maybe snare. maybe. You could also run a focus or pistol OH, but then you start to become less of a PU and more of an interrupt build, which is probably the next skill level up for mesmer.
Taking a break from GW2 to play various
Nintendo games..
Here is the shatter build I have been using:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fhAQNAR8fnsISha2oGmqBzaGh1YQdWpdGJHIgSGy1A-TJxHwADeCALLDoa/BAXEAA
It has enough stealth and distortion to prevent a lot of incoming damage, reasonable condi removal and lots of boon stripping. Moa morph I use on minion mancers; if there are no necros on the opposing team then time warp is subbed. I feel comfortable playing this build and may start trying it again with a berserker’s amulet, but soldier provides good sustain which helps me learn. The only part I don’t necessarily like in this build is Phantasmal Disenchanter because of its long cast time.
I believe that my build below is one of the easiest and funnest Mesmer build out there. It’s a cloneondeath build which is like PU but focuses on getting as many illusions out as possible and letting them do the damage while you dodge for days hiding among your clones and using stealth shortly to break target.
