I see a lot of difference of opinion on whether or not Phantasmal Beserker was bugged to the effect of producing the phantasm with or without LOS. I never saw this as a bug. Mesmer’s do not posses any other siege assault abilities and anyone who has played a Mesmer knows the beserker is killed enough if focused. This always lead me to believe PB’s LOS issue was not a bug. Can anyone produce an official statement otherwise? I did not find one during a brief search.

Well since they “fixed” it, it must have been a bug.

Yes it was a bug. No attack targeting a player directly in the game is supposed to ignore LOS. Hence the fix this patch.

This is indeed an unintentional bug. We need to get the facts straight first. It’s NOT a stealth nerf.

#1. The damage output by Phantasmal Berserker’s attacks are inconsistent. Most notably in its first attack that always deal significantly less damage than its subsequent attacks. The total output damage reduction as many have noted is to be roughly ~60% or more. At such high amount of total damage reduction and its innate inconsistency, it does NOT translate to a legitimate nerf by any means.

#2. With such a drastic change to this skill, it has to be noted in the patch notes. Otherwise, it only means that this is an unintentional bug. The current state of this skill is half broken as is, and it’s in dire need for fixing.

*Edit: This is a most recent note added to Phantasmal Berserker on Guild Wars 2 Wiki on Nov 16th- "As of the latest patch, the ability seems to miss at random, and land far fewer hits on average, occasionally going as far as zero. Believed to be a bug.

There is already an existing thread regarding Phantasmal Berserker bug on the Bugs Forum – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/iberserker-doing-significantly-less-damage/first

Retaking the opening post idea, many of us didn’t see Phantasmal Berserker as a bug, but just a way to compensate the class for the lack of AoE and the obstructed LoS issues.

Yes it was a bug. No attack targeting a player directly in the game is supposed to ignore LOS. Hence the fix this patch.

That would be the case for casted attacks. But (I though) Mesmer attack were supposed to be “mental” attacks that could therefore surpass walls.

The reason iZerker damage went down was because it went UP depending on how many targets it hits.
Basically if you cast it in a zerg, the last person it hits can be slammed with 10k+ damage if running a power build.
The fix made the iZerker scale normally, the issue is that it now misses a lot due to dodgy LOS

Not true, lol never happen. iBerserk didn’t suffer from the “bladetrial effect” prior this patch. It might be the case that with the last patch we got the buggy-fixed code of bladetrial imported in our asset. As this will also explain why the LOS is way off and completly unsynced with the mesmer animation.

I think it’s cute that people think anything about LoS was actually “fixed”. Tonight during multiple keep sieges, I cackled gleefully as my Illusionary Warden, when targetting the keep door, appeared behind the door, inside the keep, and began wailing on people on the inside of the door.

It was especially amusing since I’m traited for focus skills gain reflection. I summoned multiple wardens, each one appearing inside the keep, and saw multiple thousands of points of damage from reflected shots from people trying to kill it float up into the sky.

Also tonight, I watched as all three of my scepter attacks in a chain whiffed do to not having line of sight, while I was standing on perfectly flat ground without so much as a blade of glass, with my opponent directly in my face beating on me with a melee weapon.

Go go arenanet!

The opinion that matters is Anets – since they fixed the LOS issue, they clearly saw it as a bug, case closed.

You need to do a little reading Tina, the issue is not with LOS, it’s with the bug it introduced which reduced berserkers damage by 60% and failure to cast when clearly you have LOS (enemy directly in front of you, but perhaps slighltly more elevated).

Illusionary Berserker has not received a direct damage decrease. Instead, is seems that the damage reduction you (and I) are seeing is most likely associated this fix:
“Fixed a bug that caused many piercing, boomerang, and bouncing projectiles (those that hit more than 1 target) to continually increase in damage the more targets they hit.”
We are aware that this particular phantasm is now experiencing a significant drop in damage and are looking at getting it back to a more effective state.
Thanks for keeping the post civil and constructive!
