PVE - GS/Staff possible ?
10/10/0/30/20 support phantasm build
20/20/0/0/30 dps phantasm build
Both use the GS&Staff. The dps build can double as a shatter build with a few trait swaps and changing weapons.

thanks so much for replyi
Would a staff still work in a non condi build ?
I will check out the sticky, I wasn’t sure though since the patch how accurate those builds would be.

In a power build, staff does respectable damage while giving you a hard hitting phantasm (Warlock) but in PvE, I run staff on secondary for it’s utility and group benefit. A well placed Chaos Storm can really help front line classes like Guardian or Warrior stay in the thick of things. Personal Chaos Armor will give you protection, which can save you from otherwise fatal damage. Phase Retreat can give you a timed dodge as well.
Also 20/20/0/0/30 can be a vulnerability stacking shatter build as well.
trait wise it seems the same as theone Samiell posted. Well sounds promising,
I originally wanted to use sword&sword / Staff but im nt sure how viable it is now with the BF nerf.
Thats why i was planning to use GS instead.
Oh sword main hand is still viable, dont be discouraged from the nerfs.
Pve is overall simple so use what you like. We have so many useful weapons, you’ll change them frequently.
If you go for GS/staff you may want to carry a one handed sword in the inventory, as well as a focus or whatever you like. change weapon ooc is fast.
Staff/Greatsword worked great for me in *that new dungeon last night.. running 0/30/10/0/30 and mixed soldiers/knights/berserker gear, mostly crit damage build.
[NOX] & [Coma] – Gunnar’s Hold.
Try out the s/s and GS build using 20/20/0/0/30. It take some getting used to and ya have to time your blocks but working it into a power build is amazing. The Iswordsman is my favorite phantasm. Fast attacks and hits hard. Block can hit back for a ton on sword4. Blur for sword3 is just amazing. The cd is a bummer but they really tuned it up. It just flows better in combat more now. I use ether, decoy, blink, signet of illusions and mass invis. You’ll have to get used to not having the staff for defense but that’s what the stealth is for. Stealth>reposition>summon phantasm. Block when someone gets close, sword3/blur. Dodge back, swap GS knock back, summon Iberzerker for cripple.
I’m starting to ramble on. Anyway, if you want to try something different just do it. Thats how new builds are discovered. Enjoy killing peeps with your new awesomeness.
thanks for all the advices guys!
most likely ill be using the 20/20/0/0/30.
I will be using a power build most likely
as far as gear goes is it better to sue flat out Berserker or use something that gives a bit more survivability?
Thanks OP for posting this, I’m looking for same thing. Have so far been running 0/25/0/25/20 with STaff and Sword/Focus in a condi/support setup, but find that I’m really wanting some more long range single target DPS for certain boss fights in dungeons, fractals, etc. Think I’ll try out one of the suggested builds for GS/Staff (and of course keep Sword/Focus in my bag for certain fights and of course the temporal curtain).

Hello. I’m new to Mesmer (level 80 Warrior and Ranger) and wondered if anyone would be kind enough to break down the traits on these builds. Also curious why neither build has 20 in Chaos for the staff reduction?
I play only PVE, mainly dungeons and DE’s.
Thank you
Support phantasm build got hit with the IC shift up to grandmaster but the build still operates, just doesn’t have as fast phantasm summoning.

I’m not taking credit for this build, it’s one of pyro’s.

It’s an oldie but still works. What makes it nice is that with a few trait swaps, it works as a shatter build.
Skotienos did some research after patch and this seems to be working better than the above now http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=VO;4VPF-1U7BVV71;9;499-OO2;01;317-29-4NG0-JF0xpMUxpMUn-FvcF35-Fbsc1-60B1G2LZR_-o-G-2i;5N-6RNV0R;9;9;9;9;0k0;3V8k3e

I am running 20/20/0/30/0 with GS and staff secondary…I can switch out the staff for sword/focus and the focus cooldown trait when the party need a lot of reflection. I am finding it pretty effective and fun. The iWarlock hits pretty hard if you have enough conditions up.
I got a buddy that tourneys with nothing but the GS and staff he wrecks face. Not sure what his build is though.
I play gs/staff, it is AWESOME for pve and wvw, its so much fun, tons of moving around and kiting galore with nonstop survivability and my build has traits that focus on defensive stuff 0 20 30 20 0. I’ve had so much success with it and soloing champs is easy. While other people might go down, u can stand strong.
It is synergizing stealth + defensive boons, mitigating damage, invuln/blocks, movement and blinks, tons of illusions and u have a great deal of toughness while dealing strong sustained phantasm damage, with might stacks and some zerker gear. I’d recommend looking at this for pve, it makes pve quite easy really.
Mimic/veil/null field I interchange as well as often I like mirror heal for the perm travel swiftness cuz of short CD and also cuz of short CD I can spam it more, keeping my health at max while reflecting projectiles
about the staff boost trait i dont use it bc i dont need the quicker CD since im swapping between weapons as soon as possible, once ive done everything i need to and get might stacks from it. With my build its perma 6-10 might stacks .
Staff is good for escape and defense and putting those long range phantasms around u for regen + protection traits and stuff. Chaos storm and chaos armor and everything u got theres so many boons and defensive things but once uve used the cd chances are ur on safer ground again and can go back on gs offensive, then swap back once ur target gets near again etc
Its my main set for pve for the passed 2.4k hours, it doesn’t just work great (i run shatter 24/7 so im talking about shatter builds here) it works better than Sword/X with staff or whatever. For certain mobs that you can ballup with TC in dungeons focus is needed but those that move a lot staff/gs with 20/20/0/0/30 is the best.
GS/Staff are great together. I like 20/30/20/0/0. Lets you swap around other weaps easily without respeccing.
