I know Prismatic Udnerstanding doesn’t affect allies but.. If a thief uses that AoE stealth, will it proc Prismatic Understanding on the Mesmer?

Also, what is the duration of the boons?

The answer is that it only affects your abilities (Veil, Decoy, Mass Invisibility). And it does not have any effect on the Torch ability called The Prestige.

So it wouldn’t proc any effects on you if you were effected by someone else’s invis skill.

With that said, I love Prismatic Understanding as a mesmer. The extra second and a defensive boon are amazing. The boon will refresh itself as well if you let the stealth go its entire duration.

Actually… It does work with the prestige… Prestige stealth lasts 4 seconds now and it is enough time to proc maybe 2-3 boons depending on illusionary membrane being off its ICD.

I was pretty sure that prismatic understanding affected stealth received regardless of the source, but I could be wrong. For instance, I can recall instances where I seemed to get an extra second of stealth when using another mesmer’s veil or mass invisibility. Also, I think it will affect stealth you gain via combo fields, but again, I’m not sure on that point.

However, it does not affect Shadow Refuge. I believe that is intended because Shadow Refuge applies stealth in five three-second bursts. That leaves those in the field with 11 seconds of stealth once the field is done pulsing. If it was affected by prismatic understanding, then Shadow Refuge would give 16 seconds of stealth after it was completed. Perhaps that got viewed as overpowered at some point. This corresponds with the fact that the thief trait Meld with Shadows also doesn’t extend the stealth from Shadow Refuge.

As for torch, jportell is correct that prismatic understanding does indeed work with The Prestige. It used to be that it gave the boons without extending stealth duration, but as of a recent patch, it grants an extra second of stealth as well.

Finally, you asked about the duration of boons. The boons from prismatic understanding are normally three seconds long. However, since you automatically have +30% boon duration if you have prismatic understanding, they are going to be about four seconds long (assuming you don’t have other sources of boon duration on your armor/runes/food). The boons get randomly reapplied every three seconds that you’re in stealth, so if you use Decoy or The Prestige for the full four second, you will get a second boon applied one second before you leave stealth.

Overall, I’m a huge fan of Prismatic Understanding. The extra second of stealth is really helpful for a variety of applications (stealth stomping, running away, buying extra time to heal, etc) and the boons are very nice as well, especially considering that due to Illusionary Membrane you have a two-in-three chance to proc Protection when you stealth.
