Pu Condition Mesmer
Some actual meaningful content is always nice for a thread.
In answer to your trite question, a trite answer: it exists because it works.
Okay I will add some content. Why doesn’t a phantasm disappear after one use? Honestly I think it would be fine if it didn’t perma cripple you and phantasms disappear instead of getting 15 bleeds stacks ( that’s just a guess)

The build doesn’t permacripple you. You do that to yourself.

So here’s where logic comes in. In order to perma cripple you, you as the player have to kill all the clones/phantasms. They can’t cripple you on their own, you cripple yourself. On top of that, the only phantasm that can actually stack bleeds is iDuelist, which if theyre running pistol over torch they dont benefit as much from PU. A condi PU build only wins against people who don’t know how it works.
All in all, 0/10.

I think the Clown is just feeling frowny on mesmers in general, and is a bit confused about what exactly is turning his smile upside down.
Sounds mostly like a bad experience with a GS wielder. Those clones can stack bleeds over time as well (though not 15 I don’t think).
If I ignore the clones then what happens?

I can think of 3 possible outcomes.
1. Nothing happens (except the clones hit you for minimal dmg and might cause bleeding).
2. Mesmer summons more clones, so the old clones will blow up causing the cripple and/or other effects.
3. Mesmer shatters the clones, so they will blow up damaging or interrupting you or making the Mesmer invulnerable for a short time.

1. See PU Mesmer.
2. Run away.
3. Laugh that the mesmer’s playing such a useless spec and be happy that they can’t do anything about it.

PU Mesmer are tricky if you have a lot of AoEs, but as the others said the clones need to be destroyed or overwritten in order to release conditions in about a 240r.
The other aspect of PU damage is Torment, which comes from a counter on the scepter and hits pretty hard (5 stacks). Either way the build relies on an actively attacking opponent to do the majority of its damage. If you have cleanses and dont attack you’ll be fine.
PU power builds are a slightly different story…

Ya.
That’s why I can’t go back to straight PU.
Don’t pop the clones at close range, and don’t attack when they have their arm up.
There, you just negated a large portion of their damage and debuffs. Feel free to /laugh at them now.
PU/condi is like a weird sort of bunker build that relies on active use of stealth, short-range teleports, blocking, and protection to stay alive instead of having a huge health pool and huge armor. Your best bet is to treat it like any other bunker: ignore it and keep moving to your destination unless you really want to waste a lot of time. As a PU/condi myself, nothing makes me feel more defeated than when someone just walks away and I have to just go find something else to do.

Just finished a duel. Was tough with all my aoe but i lasted a little longer. I played flawlessly for the most part and got him to half health. Probably an ele problem and not a mesmer problem.

My best advice would be to try this PU mesmer build so you can see for yourself how it works and what you can do to counter it.
1. See PU Mesmer.
2. Run away.
3. Laugh that the mesmer’s playing such a useless spec and be happy that they can’t do anything about it.
4. PU mesmer pistol stun you
5. Pu mesmer turns out to play power and blade flurry to you
6. The laught chokeing you while you tasting grass
:D

Come on, condition PU is so 2013. PU Phantasms are the new thing. Too bad they’re next to useless in anything but roaming.

If by “roaming” you mean “doing pretty much anything”, then yeah, they’re useless except for roaming.
Seriously, what’s with all the oversimplifications? PU is one trait and there are dozens of builds that use it.
PS Even if you’re right, I still have 1 more week to enjoy it.

Wait, one week? What?
And yeah, was being a little coy. But I mostly mean that, in my opinion, PU has much less utility in anything bigger than a 5 man fight. It inherently brings no group utility, and since conditions are harder to stick in large fights, that forces us towards phantasms and shatters. And since phatasms go down way to quick in large fights, that leaves shatter, and I’ve yet to see a good PU shatter build. Anyone have one by chance?
You said PU was “so 2013”. One week left.
Where does anything bigger than a 5 man fight matter? Zerging? I don’t like my mesmer in zergs anyway, and that doesn’t leave much else. In PvE I think everyone pretty much agrees PU sucks.

By definition a shatter build with PU just isn’t a good consideration since you give up so many of the important shatter traits to do it.
That said, I’ve seen plenty of crazy ideas turn into decent builds, so I’ll look forward to see what you come up with xD

Oh yeah, I did say that. A bit thick at the moment, it seems.
I think my experience is colored by my server (TC), where the population is high enough that small fights always seem to end with reinforcements pouring in from one site or the other, and so I’ve thus been forced into larger fights where PU is less useful. That said, I’ve been enjoying a 30/30/0/10/0 mesmer in big fights, so long as lag doesn’t get too high.
