Q:
PvE S/S or S/P Mesmer
it’s saying bad link….ii’m assuming s/p and s/s refer to sword and not scepter. I think both sword/sword and sword/pistol can be very good, looking forward to seeing what you’re doing with them.
Hmm, try http://tinyurl.com/nwdqv2y?
Hey.
I’ll be honest with you, you’re hurting yourself in quite a few places with your trait setup.
- What gear are you using? Your traits and gear tend to be connected and the stat bonuses that your traits give you are rather important.
- Its highly not recommended to have sword in both weaponsets as they share the same cooldown. Sword-Pistol / Scepter-Sword (or sword-Sword/scepter-pistol), while not as aesthetically pleasing, adds more moves and strategy without taking anything away from your build.
- What is your favorite part about the Mesmer? It looks as if you’re a fan of Phantasms but have a trait for shattering in there as well. Unfortunately, you’re gonna have to decide what you wanna work with. (There are hybrid options, of course, so you can shatter clones and maintain your phantasms.
- On that note, if you do want to be a Phantasm summoner, I’d advise taking 10 points out of Dueling (Dropping the sword cooldown unless you go sword/sword) and placing it into Domination for another 15% Phantasm damage.
- Inspiration VI, Compounding Celerity, unfortunately kinda sucks, there are a lot of better options in the Inspiration tree.
- The Mist Wolf summon needs a buff so badly. Mass Invisibility, Moa Morph, and Timewarp outshine it.
- Signet of Inspiration rocks, but rocks all the harder when you have some boon duration or roll with a Staff. May want to consider Signet of Illusions if you wanna keep your illusions up and strong (for iDefender and iDisenchanter)
Theres a lot of cool things you can do if you make some tweaks, but I’m a huge advocate of fun over strict rigid builds. Some slight edits will help you find that balance between creative fun and build effectiveness.

Phantasms are definitely my priority – Illusions 1 should have been 3…
What about swapping out the alternate for a Staff?
Gear wise… yeah, I haven’t thought about that – I’m really looking for something to work towards, rather than working from – I’m rolling a new character :P
I have some similar comments. first the 15 pts in illusions seems odd for a phantasm build, you won’t be shattering much, so buffing shatters goes against your phantasm concept.
If you did want to shatter, a lot, deceptive evasion is too good to pass up.
your build is good at single target DPS, which can make for a good PvP dueling build.
In pve, aoe is very powerful…focus, great sword and staff really can help here. Sword main hand is ok for this, but blurred frenzy is only available some of the time.
phantasms are good DPS once they get going, but it takes a bit of time to get them going. Compare this to high single target DPS builds in other professions and you’ll find yourself underperforming on trash mobs. On bosses, you’ll do well, but you’re basically making a one trick pony, and the trick is only moderately useful in pve.
All that said, constructive feedback would be to take 10 pts from illusions and put them anywhere else.
consider a different weapon for at least one set. Staff could round this out by giving you some aoe support/dmg and defense, GS will give good DPS and a bit of aoe, focus offhand will give some versatility and aoe-but as someone else noticed, you’d be waiting a lot for sword cool downs if you do s/s and s/f.
good luck!
Knight’s gear (Precision/Power/Toughness) is a good start.
Staff rocks. (The staff phantasm’s damage increases based on the number of conditions on the enemy, so drop a Chaos Storm on them before summoning it)
Greatsword is also a decent option, though the Berzerker has been getting a lot of complaints. The scepter isn’t so bad when you get used to it, it just takes a while.
Something like 10/10*/20/25/5 may be a better spread. (Dom 3, Dueling 4*, Chaos 4*&10, Inspiration 5, 1*) the -*- means subject to your opinion.
Leveling a Mesmer is gonna be a tricky road though, don’t try to create a specific build until you breach the infamous level 40 mark. Put your first 5 points into Illusions to make all your clone skills cooldown faster.

How about http://tinyurl.com/oqb82j6? Compounding Power seems useful.
yup, until you hit 40, you dont really get to have a build…its more like a hint of a flavor.
I really don’t like GS.
Concept wise, awesome idea.
The actual animations? Yeah, not so much.
That looks good, I’d heavily advise for signet of Illusions though. It gives 200% HP to your illusions.
And squeezing 10 points into Domination will boost their damage by 15%
and the regeneration from Chaos 5 won’t be noticeable unless you have +healing power. It isn’t worth the 5 trait points… but if you can get 20 points into Chaos for the staff cooldown and toughness boost (your illusions are affected by your toughness) it’ll be a big help.
Since you arent’ taking the pistol anymore, you should move those 10 points into Domination.

for pve sw+f is amazing… i find it much more fun than sword+anything else (though i suppose thats because i like throwing groups of mobs into a wall -grouping them→ileaping>iwarden)… though i suppose its subjective
