So, GW2, from what this article says, is getting a “first person camera” option added in for every game mode. This might be mostly limiting in PvP, but I had a though: Would this let us see animations better, and therefore increase our Lockdown ability? With that, I found this slightly relevant to Mesmer and just post it here to see whether anyone has thoughts on this.

Also, quick list of pros and cons:

PROS: Possibly better point of view for observing animations.
CONS: Less range of vision around yourself.

The ability to zoom in as much as we want could work really well for tutorial videos, especially in showing what to interrupt.

its madly impractical to use in combat though unless you become extremely used to switching in and out of both POVs.. Third person will still be crucial.

What I do find interesting is that it is a legit first person view which zooms in to the head of the character. If you’re an Asura your PoV will be entirely different from a Norn

Somewhere I read that there will be slider’s that will allow you to move the camera left/right and up/down, to help with the different race sizes.

But yes, FP view during combat would be “interesting” to say the least.

Not useful whatsoever during an actual pvp match. You’d have to toggle back and forth so often. There’s already a lot to keep track of in this game. Your camera angles are not something you want to struggle with. I could see it being used during tutorials to better see skill animations for interrupt builds… maybe. But even then, you need to be able to see it among a lot of other stuff happening.

This change is mostly for in-game immersion for PvE. I think it’s a great option to have, and one I will definitely use during the living story and random adventuring!

First person wouldn’t be useful, but the longer throw field of view we’re getting may prove to be useful.

FPV with spinny attacks would be funny (assuming it’s full first person and not just camera zoom).

GW2 has taught me that being a Mesmer is about..
..being a cynical forecaster.
..being a doom-monger….and being a hopeless jinxer.

Funny that I’ve just practiced some Phase Retreat locations on that map today (and well, also shortly looked into Foefire). I’ve found that two of the clocktower screenshots at metabattle are a little bit off… won’t work if you stand exactly where the Mesmer in the picture is standing.

As for first person… oh well. I’ll probably (almost) never use it. And I hope there will be an option to return to default settings in the 3rd person perspective; since you will be able to mess around with the camera there as well, and I like it how it is currently (but might try changing it a bit in some cases; for example in tight spots).

As an Asura, I’m really happy for this. One thing I really really miss from DAoC is the ability to feel like I’m actually playing a small race when around tall bushes or tall grass. It made for a ton of immersion.

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.
