RIP Wells Art 11/17
Eh? Are the clock hands gone?
It’s really, sincerely depressing. Like, I realize that functionality has to come before aesthetics. But before, I really felt like a mesmer when I dropped wells. Now… I kind of just feel like a purple necromancer.
For Franz sake, half of being a MESMER is being downright fabulous! This is clearly a nerf.
?
Is this due to your graphics settings? Some of the color and light effect is gone from the wells for me, but I still have clock hands. So the clock hands and ticking is still there to help allies.
They still look fine to me as well – hands are there and `he colour/effect looks ok.
Yeah they definetly look much worse and I have no idea why they changed it.

They just took out some of the extra shiny animations that you’d see on high graphics.
As for why…….ESPROTS!
Seriously though, the idea is to make the skills and such less “noisy” so that it’s easier to follow in spectator mode for PvP.

Which is why a global change makes complete sense instead of it just being limited to SPvP or spectating.

Or, you know, making it a setting option.

PvP really should be removed.
These visual changes would be fine if they were optional. As an elementalist main I really hate what happened to fireball and overload air. I don’t know what exactly happened to wells, but if the changes that I have seen to my ele main are anyrthing to go by, it is probably horrible. If you guys really want to see something changed, post in the Visual nerfs thread.

Yeah if these were optional, it’d all be good.
The way it is now, many skills look completely lame. Worst of all is Orbital Strike, which is more link Orbital fishing line, now.

I posted in the merged thread, gonna post here to.
I absolutely love the visual effects. Anet, give us OPTIONS. Options are good, options let people decide what they want. Options mean you can satisfy multiple parties. OPTIONS!
Is the death head moth still in clamtery well?
gw1 – healing signet/frenzy/charge
“Limit animation effects” and “Limit particle effects” sliders.
^ Usually only characer that i play on
Something needed to be done about the visibility, as one of my things that really annoyed me about this game is it was so hard to see what was going on. Everything just turns into one big shiny clutter on the ground. I have no idea what I’m standing in half the time, if it’s friendly or not, etc.
But, I don’t think this was the answer. Yes, the special effects needed to be toned down, but there is still that blending problem. They need to better define the edges of the abilities, so that if someone puts a necro well, a mesmer well, a DH trap, and a fire field all in the same area, I can see them.
I just tested my mesmer wells, and the edge of the effect disappears before the spell is over. I actually can’t tell how big the well is before it’s cast time ends. That’s just silly.
Bit sad to see them toned down, the visuals looked way more exciting before.
Edit: I’ve just read the fireball discussions. Wells apparently still got lucky.

The visual nerfs to all classes are terrible and extremely disappointing. I really hope A-Net restores the previous animations giving each player the option to toggle them on (full)/off (lesser).
It’s a bit puzzling why it isn’t a gfx setting, particularly since you can make different settings for raid etc.

The bad thing is Raids are such a small percentage of GW2 and many players will never participate in them; yet, everyone got a major graphics nerf across the board. Makes no sense. The special effects went from PS4 to PS2 quality. I really hope A-Net acknowledges this since many of us are upset over this issue.

The nerf was very likely targeted at SPvP, not raids. Readability is an issue when spectating, and they’d rather scramble to get a return on investment on all the money they’ve thrown into the esports toilet than do it properly or preserve the game’s art.
This sorta nonsense bothers me on a deep level and is a lot of why I make no effort to hide my intolerance for the sort of pvpers who whine at every little thing they think might give someone else an advantage (Oh it’s too shiny! Distracts me! Bawww!) regardless of how much it steps on the fun of others.
What really upsets me is that MMO devs keep putting the binky back in the mouths of these little humanoid potatoes.

You mean, accepting that an MMO’s class system is unsuitable to eSports wasn’t a viable option? /sigh
It’s nice that they make life worse for everyone because a tiny minority figured they’d complain about an unbalanced 5v5 mode looking nice instead of boring. Ah well, smallscale PvP in MMOs. Never been anything but a source of issues, in any MMO.

What annoys me is that the devs listen to the stuff instead of making whining about this a bannable offense for “wasting dev time”.

This makes a lot of sense, but to castrate our detailed special effects art just to accommodate spectators & tournaments is very wrong. The graphics card I bought for GW2 is now pointless.
As everyone said, special effects options will solve this; however, the lack of a response by A-Net doesn’t bode well for us. If this isn’t addressed, I will most likely move on. This issue is that important to me.

It was totally worth all 1 tournament and all 10 spectators to kitten off the other 95% of the game’s players! Yep!
