Shelving mesmer for good, join me!
@Moddo, here’s what JonPeters said in a thread about the .25s global cooldown.
Jumper is pro, you can’t argue with him. l2keybind.
On topic, kitten – won’t be able to forcebug the 14k mind wracks and blame the game while people scream for exploit. 1/4 of a second is really nothing, minor change that will affect only the bug.
Funny thing, Anet didn’t fix the bug, they just made it impossible to execute. Always better to add something new instead of fixing the old kitten.
I think it’s a temporary bandaid until they can actually figure out what the problem is.
It seems they can’t identify what is causing it,so they added a preventing measure.
Better than doing nothing imo.We have a winner!
This was an especially bad problem so we did what we had to do given the resources we had to solve this while the studio was closed for the new year/holidays.

Thank you for posting that and actually saying it was thread and not like other person tried to state I should be reading some news…Funny that post was in sPvP section and not in Mesmer forums. Do Devs actually use any forum other than that. Two guilds I am in 2-3 people out of 100 actually do sPvP and yet Devs spend 90% of time posting in that forum and not in class ones as far as I can see.
This patch has made clear ANet’s utter lack of interest or commitment in the mesmer profession.
When faced with an obvious damage calculation bug causing mind wrack to do 100% more damage, they nerfed our might stacking instead and instituted a global cooldown for mesmer onlyI’m shelving my mesmer for good.
I don’t pvp with it at all and almost never saw any shimmering bodies in pve until the might stacking change allowed me to actually gasp loot a few bodies in dynamic events instead of just chests.
I’m done. I’m hanging it up and continuing with my ele – which does more damage in CLERICS GEAR AT 73 THAN MY MESMER DOES IN RAMPAGERS AT 80, after which I’ll probably do guardian or engineer.
Tired of double-standards.
Tired of our core mechanic being broken by turning blind into interrupt++ for mesmer only
I’m insulted by the introduction of a global cooldown for mesmer only
Tired of damage scaling inversely with number of targets b/c of illusion fragility for mesmer onlyAnyone see a pattern here?
my ele D/D balanced (knight) i use since day one deals less than half my berserker mesmer i use since less than a month.
Actually i’m doing the opposite…i play mesmer any time i can…. ._.
Not comparing because i don t feel competent enough yet in mesmerity but for sure it deals more than 200% dmg of a balanced ele (not even a tanky one)…and can fight underwater too…
P.S. starting my first legendary also….for mesmer >_< just to tell…
P.P.S.
I agree with you almost completely. Eles do have a trait that creates an “ability” upon attunement. Spikes when attuning to earth, speed upon air, etc.
BUT
Eles cannot weapon swap so they can’t really benefit from those weapon swap sigils like other professions. So perhaps that’s why the attunement CDs mirror weapon swap CDs.
Ele benefit from attunement swap, but they are locked out from skills if they dance mindlessly….OR are forced to use some particular attunement.
The wrong thing you say is the aoe while swapping…
Its not so…
You do an aoe (9sec cooldown) if you roll while in any attunement (30 points arcana).
All it does is 150-200 dmg or blind or slightly heal BUT also a blast finisher if in earth (3 might aoe).
Its really not that much for a 30 points trait.
Swapping attunement trait instead gives a short duration boon to allies.
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

I really dont understand some of the mesmers on this thread, I never lose an 1v1 fight and In some cases I can take 3 people at the same time.
If anything our class needs more nerfs, so why are you complaining when they fix some bugs?
Please roll an engineer or a ranger, and you will see how much better mesmers have it.
Please don’t give them the idea to make sigils work with phantasms. We’ll eat a huge damage nerf like engineers did for nothing.

Don’t forget the hidden nerf of Illusionary Persona no longer giving you Might when you Shatter. We should really get 4 stacks of Might instead of 3 if we have this trait.
Anet failed to mention this nerf in the patch notes.

Sounds like a bug we should report. There’s no reason it should be working that way.
Mesmer is really the best thing going atm (2nd maybe to warriors). If mesmer is not good enough, then dropping GW2 entirely is the best route. The other profs will make you lament your shelved mesmer.
SS never worked with IPersona, you can look it up on the wiki..

SS gives you might per shattered ILLUSION. Persona shatters yourself. You however are not an illu so why would you get might from it?

Persona is supposed to make you count as an illusion for the purposes of shatter effects. Distortion clearly works this way, so it’s unclear why this trait would not. As noted after the adjustment to 1 might per shatter it is probably not a problem. Really its an argument for consistency in mesmer mechanics more than anything else.
So why don’t you die after shattering then? It’s like you’re an illu and not at the same time.

So why do you get vigor from inspiration III when you shatter with persona and no illusions up, but don’t get might?

SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Please delete your post, before this one gets “fixed” next maintenance…

My point is shattering kills illus. If you really want all the effects of becoming an illu, then that should include death. Talk about double standards. “I want all the good effect of being an illu, but non of the bad.”

So why every on-shatter effect trait except shattered strength works on IP?
Could be bugs that the mesmer community doesn’t want fixed. IP only lists f1-f4 effects. Then again only SS states that it doesn’t work with IP.
So why don’t you die after shattering then? It’s like you’re an illu and not at the same time.
Oh we’re playing this game? Cool.
Because there is an illusion of you right over you at all times, perfectly mirroring your movements. That illusion shatters and reforms. Look closely and you’ll see the effects of the shatter around your character as their skintight illusion shatters.
Uh no. If that were the case you could only summon 2 more illu’s since you can only have 3 at a time out in the world. The wiki only lists the 4 effects happen at your location , but no illusion is actually shattered.
Shatter skills can be used even when no illusions are up. Thus, a mesmer without any illusions can still get a one second Distortion, a single Daze or some small PBAoE damage.

Illusions are an effect on the senses. Sooo, you’re saying since our illusions die (stop their effect) we should die??
Makes sense to me!! http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarcasm
People are justifying the other “on shatter” traits by saying “you” are the illu via IP. They are saying “I become an illusion when I take IP”. If that were true then I would also die when I shatter. But since I don’t die, then I must not actually be an illusion. Instead f1-f4 just happen on my location.
Triggering Mind Wrack causes the mesmer to deal an additional packet of AoE damage around the mesmer’s current location [verification requested], while Cry of Frustration deals additional stacks of confusion to foes near the mesmer.
Diversion applies Daze to the foe closest to the mesmer.
Distortion lasts an additional second.
On traits like inspiration III happening on mesmer locations, I’m calling those unintended because of

saying no illusion was actually shattered. SS kinda adds to that. Anet must be going in “that” direction.
Also, that is not the gw2 definition for illusion. I’m simply looking/interpreting in terms of the game’s foundation (not real life, like you’re trying to do).
(edited by Seetoo.9316)
True enough. I’m not sure what other people are saying for how the trait works but by the in game definition of illusionary persona, it’s the effect on the Mesmer not the action that causes the effect.. Makes sense to me. In the end though it doesn’t matter what you or I say. Anet will do what they please.
Also in regard to any other questions, the answer is 42. Cheers!

That made me laugh (and cry inside, because I used to play an engineer and it’s true). At least they haven’t labeled the mesmer “versatile”. You’d be in trouble then.
At any rate, I don’t think they’ll give you a damage nerf. They’ll adjust things. That’s all mesmers need. It’s a fundamentally solid profession.
