Instead of confusion/retal as it does now, it could apply torment.

The Mesmer doesn’t need the extra confusion at all, and one of the main issues I have with mesmer condition builds is that if someone doesn’t want to fight, they can just run away without much difficulty. This suggestion would alleviate this.

We also don’t have any access to torment besides the scepter block, which again only works if someone attacks us, it’s not offensive. The Mesmer in GW1 had skills that punished someone who didn’t want to fight, Wastrel’s Worry etc., and we don’t have anything like that here. Access to Torment would punish someone for running away, and if they stood still not wanting to use skills due to confusion they just eat dmg. So it would give us access to that Mesmer dynamic from the old days where people were kitten ed if they did and kitten ed if they didn’t, at least a little.

One of my favorite fall back tactics vs a bunkery opponent (such as a warrior that just wont die or leave me alone) is to use all that time to spawn 2-3 iMages. With 5s 3x confusion procs on 6s per iMage cd, it’s turns into a very fast shutdown to those spammy classes. Their health disappears very quickly.

That said, without a total rework, that tactic really needs an iMage cd reduction, and confusion stacks duration increase. While it can be effective, its not really on the level for a viable approach in ordinary play.

Eh, we don’t need extra Confusion? Hello?
We were supposed to be the confusion class, and yet both Warriors and Engineers can easily out-confusion us due to just how short our confusion lasts.

If at all, make the Mage apply more Confusion. And Torment was supposed to be a necromancer condition, and we already got a source for it. Really, we don’t need more of it.

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.

Torment was supposed to be an anti mobility condition (funny that). A lot of the reason for its conception was back when thieves wers till enjoying, and abusing culling. The stealth + heavy mobility/running reset needed a counter, thus torment came along.

There’s a discussion on that, couple of great ideas coming from that thread:
