The PERFECT/ANNOYING interruption build?
Ross Biddle made a 6/6/0/2/0 Sw/p +GS build that I play in WvW and I adore it.
Phant damage, halting strike, CS.
Phant fury, duelists discipline, extra mantras
0
Mender’s purity
0
I run Healing mantra, decoy, MoD, blink, mostly zerk/assassin, and centaur runes because I prefer speed (that affects yaks!) to more damage. Try it!
Sure. Couple things first:
- which traits are you using?
- which sigils/runes are you using?
- what is your general strategy?

can u link me the build?
I use lighting/fire burst dgm on great sword. Battle/Intell for sword/pistol.
Using the rune of Pack for 5vs5 arena for 1vs1 i’ll use scholar ?
Trait was i am using the typical intrup traits like halting strike/great sword training etc. Im willing to switch stuff around for 7-0 i am using blink, decoy, thievery with mass invs.
Here is exactly what I run. http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fhAQNAsaBGx0QOVVSHIxgSX60CA-T1SDwAm2fIoygDHBABmBScIAlgPV6tT9HQ6DW8AAAYCSyJAgMA5bB-w
Still not sure about the blood sigil but I’m keeping it until I can think of something better. Also there are better foods and wrenches but I’m cheap
need something for arena tho not just WvW =/
Oh, I don’t play pvp. I’m sure you could take that WvW build and convert it to pvp yourself though!

That’s why I asked, theres always little tweaks that makes someones’ build a bit different from others. Firstly, some general stuff:
Your thread title asks for an interrupt build. Builds centered around interrupts tend to build towards Chaotic & Bountiful Interruption as they’re pretty core traits when your goal is to interrupt. Most interrupt builds tend to run 4/4/6.
What you’re currently running is a stunlock-style lockdown build. Confounding Suggestions(which will be buffed gloriously soon) has nothing to do with interrupts; it turns dazes into stuns and extends daze duration by 25%. To capitalize on this you want daze-focused abilities like offhand sword or Mantra of Distraction.
Speaking of Mantra of Distraction, this is a CORE ability for all lockdown builds, and should always be on your bar.
Now if you’re gonna continue with 6/4/4, I’d recommend Runes of the Mesmer. They synergize well with Confounding Suggestions and still offer high damage. You’re better off dropping Greatsword Training for Shattered Concentration in domination, sure reduced cooldowns rock, but having the ability to strip enemy boons (like stability) on-demand is one of the reasons lockdown Mesmer is so valuable in a teamfight and part of what makes the class so dangerous.
For now, rocking Blink/Decoy/Mantra of Distraction is your best bet. If you feel the need for some condi removal… Suck it up or grab some Lyssa Runes! Most talented glass Mesmer in PvP have little to no condi removal. The exception to this is Null Field, as it functions as a team condi removal, area denial, ETHEREAL combo field (chaos armor grants more CC through Blinds/Cripple), and pulses six boonstrips.
Make sure you’re running with Debilitating dissipation in Chaos, AoE weakness is nothing to overlook. Bountiful Interruption is obvious.
- For some alternate sigils to consider: Sigil of Paralysis (Pistol), Hydromancy (on Greatsword), Energy(highly recommended)
- For some alternate utilities to consider: Signet of Domination, Portal
Some sample stunlock rotations..
Daze Mantra → Summon Duelist → Magic Bullet → iLeap/swap →Daze Mantra→ Blurred.
iWave → Summon Zerker → Daze Mantra → Magic bullet → Summon Duelist → iLeap /Swap

Totally worth noting that with 6 points in Domination, and a Sigil of Paralyzation, your Signet of Domination is a deadly, dangerous, meaty stun.
When I run CS, I do it mostly for the stun control. I use the Staff and Sword-Pistol. Otherwise, it’s classic Mindcrush traits. Halting Strike, Shattered Concentration, Confounding Suggestions in Domination. Far-reaching Manipulations and Deceptive Evasion in Dueling. Master of Manipulation and Bountiful Interruption in Chaos.
The goal is to be a mid-range stun demon with phantasms that hit like trucks. When the stun has procced enough for me, it’s been capable of downing someone 100-0, without them laying a finger on me.
It’s a very annoying build. And with the staff and sword swaps, you can be very slippery.
I pmed chaos, i ended going 6/2/6 i dont get how 6 points in dom is a bad thing?
Its not that its necessarily bad, its just not as good as other options.
First of all the 50% chance on CS is not enough for a GM trait. Notice that the new HoT Domination is giving it a 100% chance with an ICD and making it a Major trait. So that kind of confirms that the current CS is a bit “lacking”.
The other thing is Wastrel’s Punishment is pretty much useless. So maybe we can knockdown or stun an enemy, but these moments of “not using a skill” are brief and distant. So how often do you really take advantage of that “whopping” 5% that Wastrel’s provide? Again, in the HoT changes, Wastrel’s is being removed.
So currently going 6 in Domination isn’t your “best” option. But play the way, YOU want to play. Don’t let anyone stop you from making a build, YOUR build.

6 points in Dom isn’t necessarily bad. It’s just more widely agreed that 6 in Chaos makes for a more optimal lockdown build. However you can run 6/4/4 and still be very effective in most tiers of play, it isn’t until you start getting much more competitive that your build choices start to narrow to either 4/4/6 lockdown or 4/4/0/0/6 Shatter.
At the highest level, 4/4/0/0/6 is widely accepted as the most optimal build for tournament play (note: the meta is very different at higher levels, so even though shatter is the most optimal in a fully prepared team, 4/4/6 lockdown tends to hold its own better when you’re solo or with less-coordinated teammates.. but shatter -played well- rocks in all tiers)
Now your choice of 6/2/6 is held back by one thing: Lack of Deceptive Evasion
DE is extremely important. Having a strong clone-production tool is necessary both for your offense and defenses. You’ll be shattering often in a lockdown build, and the potential to chain-daze with F3 is even more important here than in most other builds. Once again, when the specialization patch drops, you’ll be able to full trait 6/6/6 into all three trees and become a lockdown god.
But for now.. either 6/4/4/ or 4/4/6 are the better choices. Your choice of weapon also impacts which traitline may be better for you.
6/4/4 Confounding Suggestions moreso benefits…
- Pistol
- Offhand Sword
- Staff
4/4/6 Chaotic Interruption is preferred with
- Greatsword
- Focus
- Staff
The weapons used in Confounding tend to be more single-target focused, which makes it good for dueling builds. Chaotic Interruption works better in group play, though can also be effective in 1v1s.
Give me a sec and I’ll edit in some links to videos/guides:

I need help on this build, Im Running 6/4/4 with S/P+GS can anyone give me some hint/help on making this a really annoying build for 1vs1/5vs5?
I’m running three different builds based on interrupts, depending on my mood:
1. based on mantras and trying to daze/stun as much as possible
2. Same as 1, but dropping one of the mantras in exchange for technobabble, a racial skill (obviously not available in pvp), and switch out the mantra trait in dueling with the blade training trait, and thus the healing skill with the signet heal
Its probably not as good, sacrificing too much defense for a little more daze, but I like it at times
3. The last was based around as many “randomizer” traits and skills as possible. It was more for fun than anything, but it surprised me and played better than I expected. It was molded around runes of lyssa and staff, both having random elements, and built it from there; it was in the end designed to do lots of boonshare/boonstrip/condition spread/condition strip with interrupts etc. I dont recall offhand what armor I put this one on:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fhQQNAW7alknpNtNoxGNcrNiphY6bxydqqkOQiBA-T1QRwAA2fokyvmKBBA-w
These arent set in stone, as I’m always playing around with different trait combos, etc. But it might give you some ideas.

Why don’t you like CS in WvW? I like it because even if I’m not getting stuns, my target is dazed for days which is its own death sentence in group roaming.

Group roaming? Yeah ok, def great here, especially since Mesmer gets to shine by free casting with his team distracting under most circumstances. I was meaning more solo roam especially when you become outnumbered, generally because the best builds that utilize CS can also leave you weaker in areas that you need to strengthen for WvW. You can contrast this to PvP where builds are not constrained to the particular demands of WvW (high mobility, various forms of sustain).
Don’t get me wrong, I still love CS and run it, I just feel the difference. This will all change when CS and interrupt in general gets its day with the coming changes.
currently doing 6/2/6 and i plan on chaning it to 4/4/6 with some help with angel.
I like the pistol/sword combo or pistol/scept. I never tried focus on a mesmer but have read some of the skills didn’t see how it would be any good? ill check the link posted above.
If im going 4/4/6 should i go COND spec? or do i still go zerk spec? Not to sure on this.

For high damage procs you have to be glass. The fact it’s an adapt trait either says nothing, or speaks volums to the fact that in order to access that damage you DO have to proc it. As opposed to AA’ing/adrenal burst on a warrior, or backstabing on a thief. Both of which are core to their respective classes.
The only real balance issue here is that interrupt builds are lacking right now.

Lol, interrupt mesmer too strong wow the turret engines invading our forums. Or maybe it’s necromancer, one class mesmer actually can beat in a 1v1
