Mesmer Personality Quiz! Exclamation Points!
I don’t mean to be rude or demean you in any way, but quite a bit of that is a L2P issue.
- Interrupts, from what I heard, DO work on champs even if it doesn’t actually daze them. I haven’t tested this myself but if it’s true then the interrupt traits would still take effect. I admit, this post has me wanting to explore a bit more on dazing champs because if defiant gets stripped for each control effect, I think bosses are more manageable than we give them credit for.
- I’ve never had a problem leveling, so I can’t comment much here. Again though it’s a matter of knowing how to use the class properly rather than any inherent design flaws. “Fixing” this means making Mesmer more easymode.
- Mind Wrack does plenty of damage, and Cry of Frustration does physical damage too. The problem isn’t in the damage of the skill as much as how frequently you can produce clones and shatter.
- Lack of mobility is one of our few true weaknesses, and even then it’s situational. Both staff (set a key for “about-face” and use Phase Retreat) and focus help mitigate this. Signet of Inspiration also helps. Of course there’s always Centaur/Air/Travelers runes aswell.
- Warden was patched today. =) Was still good beforehand as a more defensive Phantasm.
- For a light armor class we have ridiculous amounts of ways to mitigate damage. I can’t see how we’re lacking here.
Shatter Mesmers can’t grab all the shatter traits. Interrupt builds can’t grab all the interrupt traits. This is done purposely so that even if two people want to play a similar playstyle they won’t have to run the same exact build. You can make offensive Mantra builds and defensive Mantra builds depending on the traits you invest in.
And comparing Mesmer to Warrior, or any other class, is a disservice to both classes. We have plenty of things a Warrior can’t do, an Elementalist can’t do, ect. Looking longingly at their strengths and ignoring where we shine better than them is an unbalanced comparison. Warrior isn’t the best class by far, it’s not even the best PvE class, because there is no best class. A Mesmer has to respec more than a Warrior because we’re more specialized. We can spec to be something, and then because of our versatility respec into a completely different role and still be effective. And yes, there are Mesmer builds that can run in PvE, PvP, AND WvW all at once. Phantasm builds can find a niche in all forms of play.
I agree in everything on Chaos post except Shatter. At least in pve the damage should be increased. Shatter should be an alternative to phantasms… And well rhat is not the case.
Now that you mention it… I never tried to shatter having traited empowering mantras. I a 10/30/0/0/30 shatter build with full mantras that should be a 45% damage increase. worth a try
My opinion:
The only thing we have to do is to learn how to use our recources.
And THIS is the problem with us mesmers. The skillcap on mesmers is far higher than on warriors. A mesmer is just mutch harder to master and that’s what we try to achieve most of the time.
Even if there are good mesmers, in my opinion there can’t be someone who “mastered” our profession because it’s really depending on the player’s personality.
Wait, I lied. You can pick up all the interrupt traits in a 10/30/30/0/0 build. As for shatters, I didnt say they’re OK the way they are in PvE but I dont think simply raising the damage is the right fix.
