Mesmer Personality Quiz! Exclamation Points!
Just curious to see what people are running and why.
PvP/PvE/WvW Runes of the Pack – Not only are power/precision always valuable but this works beautifully with the focus to give temporal curtain some hefty swiftness. Probably my overall favorite Runes since it also grants AoE Might/Fury/Swiftness.
PvP
Grenth – AoE chill at the cost of some damage, syncs really nicely with Hydromancy Runes
Mesmer – I only use this with CS but it makes a pretty noticeable different in my playstyle and chaindazes despite the rather small 33% daze boost.
Lyssa- Still good despite the patch both for condi removal and the stat bonuses
PvE – Ranger
PvP/WvW – Travelers
PVE:
Ranger – for the 7% damage and also cheaper than the over prices ones and easy buff damage
Golemancer – because I like summon a golem
Air – for parma swiftness
PVP:
Mez – for stun duration
Hoelbrak – for damage and survivability
@Miku: Travelers for PvP? Por que? In my experience the speedboost isn’t usually worth it for the loss of stats. What build do ya run?
For pvp and wvw:
Hoelbrak
Lyssa
Mesmer
Pack
These are in no specific order.
@Chaos traveler runes are used for mes sometimes if you don’t run focus to be able to roam from point to point efficiently.

PvE/WvW: Traveller. Don’t mind the loss in offensive power that much if it means that i don’t move around like a slug :O

I use focus so im not to slow and I don’t lose to many stats which is a bonus
My friend turned me on to Vampire, those extra life steals and mist form have gotten me through a lot of interesting situations (Though I’ve had Mist Form interrupt my heal too which can be annoying if your dying from conditions, but overall still quite more positive then negative since they waste a bunch of cooldowns on mist).
wvw: Travellers, Mesmer and Balthazar.

Idk, you can use 1200 range blink to get from point to point nearly instantly on most maps. I don’t see either focus or travelers as remotely necessary (focus is obviously useful for other reasons).
Rune of the Pack is a favourite of mine; the boon gain is sweet but also I find I miss the +125 precision when not using it too. Also, it fits my budget best <.< I play too many characters and have too little gold income for Strength, etc.
I also like Traveler.
For the condi sets I rather like Scavenging runes, but also Balthazar.
Scholar for PvP suits me best, Using strength for WvW roaming but will likely trade out for Hoelbrak.
PvE. Traveler. I couldn’t stand it anymore seeing the behinds of my friends’ characters and slow them all down.
Leveling my main, which is a mesmer, with my friend owning a thief main, was not really thaaaat nice experience regarding to that particular point. Either for him or me.
So for me it is way more worth keeping up with other players than maxing out stats I can’t use because the foes are already killed when I am arriving with butterflies and sparkles. (Just a little exaggeration, but sometimes it felt this way. ^^)
I think Pack, Mesmer, Traveler’s, Scholar’s and Lyssa (although I stopped using these long before the nerf) are all solid choices. Ogre too, even if the reason they’re good is a bit gamey.
WvW small group roaming: hoelbrak (if we have someone sharing swiftness), travelers, I’m testing pack (+assassin) and I’m liking it
WvW raid group (12+): hoelbrak, melandru (for tanky builds)
@Miku: Travelers for PvP? Por que? In my experience the speedboost isn’t usually worth it for the loss of stats. What build do ya run?
Erm, meta shatter. Not the only one running travelers, it eases the kiting too. + i’m like forever the close bot, kiting til the thief/ele comes.
Currently Traveler (PvE/WvW). If speed were no concern: I’d roll either Antitoxin or current Perplex for pure condi, prolly Vampire for power. (More escape, on a Mesmer? Yes, please.)
For speed, runes of the centaur. Also makes the phrase "I am fast as centaur’ more appropriate … Put these in a rubbish set of blues or greens when running though maps.
For actually combat, runes of the scholar are pretty much it, followed by ranger. However, you need constant clones/illusions up, or a mini pet out, for the ranger 6th bonus 7% damage buff.
Runes of the eagle are like rangers but with a 6% damage buff on mobs below 50% health. No clones/illusion or mini pets required, though ..
I never tried strength or hoelbrak on my mesmer, but used these on some other toons with greater or lesser results.

I did the same but put mine in exotic kama gear.
I use Traveler on almost all my toons (wvw roaming). The extra utility slot is pretty valuable (for classes that have speed utilities). Yes you lose a little bit of power but you gain some nice defense, boon uptime, etc.
I just switched to Centaur runes yesterday, and I’m never looking back!
More strength than my old Ruby Orbs, 100% swiftness uptime with a healing Mantra, and cheap as dirt to boot (less than half a gold for a set of 7). It feels like these particular runes are tailor made for me and my mantra build. Happy times.
Mercy on a mixture of Knight/Soldier. Gotta get dem resses in, yo.
I also run Traveler on Celestial (stat loss with stat loss for more stat loss).
Scholar on Berserker.
Ranger on Assassin.
Lyssa on Rampager (needs to get changed).
Water on Giver’s (not quite as good as the 51% I used to get from Water/Monk/Sanctuary).
Lich on Statless (yes, statless).
Centaur on Valkyrie.
I only actually use the Assassin’s and Celestial, though. The rest are nice if my armor breaks and I can’t repair for some reason.
i use pack for everything on mesmer!
PvE: Strength – cuz everything else is terrible, maybe Scholar – or Ruby Orbs >_> Phants plz
Traveler for all modes. Quality of life > damage.
PVE
rune of choice is Scholar it was Ogre’s
WVW
For Rampager phantasm spec i use Nightmare rune
Shatter zerg/roaming i use Lyssa
PvP
Domination Mesmer via CS trait – i use Mesmer rune
Rampager phantasm spec Nightmare rune
Shatter with sword main hand – Hoelbrak rune
Shatter Gs Staff – Lyssa rune or Mesmer rune (depends on if i need more condi clear)
Support Mantras Dwayna rune
Overall my personal favorite rune is Mesmer. Dazed for days
Rune of the Traveler
For speed. We’re slow mesmers we need to waste runes for speed.
Rune of the Mesmer
This rune is my rune of choice when playing CI interrupt builds without CS!
Why that?
This rune offers the best lockdown for skilled a interrupter. What do i want to create? Stuns! With CI and a daze we can stun the enemy on every single interrupt. It will inflict 2.5s immobilize and 1.33s daze → 1.33s stun and after that 1.17s immobilize.
PVE – Traveler for events and such. Scholar for dungeons/frac.
WVW – Traveler/perplex/torment
WVW
Ever since the nerf to Traveler runes, I have switched to Runes of Speed. I find the 20% swift duration, +100 vitality and 25% chance to gain swiftness when struck to be way more useful than 10% boon/condi duration and +16 all stats.
PVE
Strength runes
Undead or Adventurer for various condi specs
Mesmer for lockdown
