Heya and thanks for taking some time for my issue. I sorta recently got my mesmer up to 80..though lets just say…my build is beyond rubbish. I blame pure luck for even making that far and since mesmer clearly isnt a class where i even fully know how its supposed to feel in battle. Id like to ask you guys for some suggestions for a rather high dps build that if possible includes either greatsword or staff. Thanks in advance

yea shatter seems to be what i need, just read up the guide and yea.. my build is as far off as you can get from this. Mesmer is way, WAY more easy to skill and equip terrible wrong then i had imagined.

Read Osicat guide try different builds and see what will work for you personally.

Shatter is PvP and WvW only. Do not use shatter in PvE.
Phantasm builds are appropriate for PvE.
….so… yea shatter really dont works in pve, just learned it the hard way. Lemme try phantasm next… XD

You don’t need to run shatter build to AOE with mind wrack. Shatter build do not prevent from using Phats. I newer did math on it but think traited phats offer higher DPS comparing to traited Shatter burst.

Many people have. Phantasms offer far far higher sustained damage than shatter. Shatter is for the instant aoe burst, and that’s only useful in PvP.
Why would that only be useful in PvP? There’s way more crap on the screen in PvE and WvW than an sPvP match.

I hope you’re really not advocating the Shatter build in dungeons.
I don’t see why not, assuming if someone else like a Guardian can pick up the reflects.
Heaven forbid we don’t all play the same cookie cutter build in our game mode of choosing…

But none of them is Shatter in dungeon.
There’s not enough sustaining DPS in a Shatter build.
Plus you need to dodge to create more clones to be shattered. That is far from ideal while you’re fighting against the wall.
If you don’t want to contribute in the DPS department, you don’t want to contribute in the reflect department, what honestly do you care about the party besides them carrying you through the dungeon using any build that you want?
If you’re gonna advocate something sub-par, you might as well advocate everything.
Medohgeuh no one telling you Shatter is a bad build. We here swap ideas about what works and what not in different situations. Build can be changed for 3 s and 3 min for putting correct traits in place. I always change my armor weapons and builds according to what am intend to do. WVW build or dueling build or zerg build or dungeon build all require different skills and traits as well as weapons and armor.

Let’s clarify this a tad. People are telling you shatter is a bad build in PvE…because it’s true. It’s perfectly viable in other parts of the game.
