Oh lawd. Necromancers are in a strong state in WvW and PvP. They can still condi bomb someone to death and wells are a great WvW tool.

OP: you want to play an ele? Prepare to feel like an idiot compared to the necromancer, unless it’s for zergs.

Necros keep whining and I agree you have some issues, mainly mobility but you’re FAR, FAR from the worst class in the game.

Its not about being the worst or best class in the game. Its about how a class feels to play. WvW i will say necro’s are still very strong and valuable – but the lack of stability and getting constantly ping ponged around FEELS bad… And in PvP i think its hard to say where the different classes have settled, its only been a couple of days sinse the patch, and to be quite honest, i do feel like the necro is one of the worst classes to bring to the table currently.

Sky is falling aside, i switched and im alternating between mes/warrior/guard for now. Miss my necro in pvp though but our condi pressure has been so watered down its extremely limp to play.

With respect to WvW, necro is one of the stronger 1v1 classes and is very good for small group combat if your group is built around supporting the necro both offensively and defensively.

Until most of them say “peace out” and run away. And we can’t catch them or stop them from running.

Flesh wurm (kinda the idea)

The only thing I really notice is if you bounce around profession forums, Necros are the most displeased. There has to be a reason…

I don’t think everyone just makes up stuff out of nowhere and says it’s bad. Actually I think the necro community is the most honest about the class in comparison to the other communities. I also play a warrior and guardian at times and was curious how the warrior community felt about Healing signet. Obviously they defend it to no end and won’t even consider the blasphemy of it possibly (even a little) that it is overpowered.

If I recall correctly, after the dhummfire patch most necro’s were pretty much in agreement that terror builds were doing too much burst for most classes to handle.

It just irks me sometimes how community response is so under appreciated. Even nemesis who’s tried to help the necro community has had his redpost removed for no reason. The only reason I can think of is he’s even-handed with his opinion towards the class and when expressing his doubts about how the necro is being handled, he was punished. lol

Like wow man. That’s messed up. Like you have a game with a player-base interested in your game, bought your game, promotes and plays your game… and you treat them like crap lol. Idk man this is dark indeed.

Necro just isnt that fun for me anymore. Have been switching between my alts pretty evenly. Only my necro and thief get neglected. Next class to lvl will be engi and i expect I will play that more than necro aswell. If necro recieved a cleave weapon I would probably instantly find the class fun again.

I have to agree with you on this, Necro and Thief…the only two classes I neglect (ie aren’t at lvl 80) and it’s largely because the play styles are so restrictive to such a very narrow set of option compared with other classes. I compare them with Warrior (which I play mostly these days) and while admittedly there’s a very promoted build with them, there are others you can step outside it and not be completely useless.

I agree with you guys. aNET have no idea what to do with necromancer class, all it does so far is ruining it more each time they release a patch.

I left sPvP and WvW and totally turned to PvE with my necro. There is no hope for necro in fields of gameplay except PvE.

Im currently leveling my elementalist and Im planning to make my lvl 80 warrior my main since I can’t relay on aNET anymore, they are starting to ruin game more and more…

Their “patch” made the following situation ingame: build > skill.
That sucks. I am deeply disappointed.

I made so much mistakes that I now make mistakes without mistake.

haha kitten , there is alot of us that have changed :P. Playing glassy as kitten thief. So much more fun and if im ever in trouble i can get away! WOOOOOOOOOOT! I occasionally run spvp necro. but otherwise i see no point we don’t have the sustain or mobility to get away in wvw(SOLO roaming) and pve necro is just bad. If you like zerging necro is pretty good.

I’d like to preface my post by saying that I have played over 900 hours on my necromancer, which is quite a lot, but not nearly as much as some of the veterans on here. I have tried many builds as necromancer in all forms of gameplay.

I only continue to play my necromancer for a few reasons:

1. Because I’m highly familiar with it
2. To play dress-up
3. Because my necromancer is currently my only character with AR (soon to change)

The game has a very large number of traits and abilities that are rather underwhelming, and necromancer is only one profession – however, the necromancer seems to have the lion’s share of bad implementation. This likely stems from the last minute changes made during the beta. It’s as if necromancer is unfinished.

I seem to recall ANet saying something about how they preferred a hands-off approach to balance. The huge patch on June 25 broke that mold. Soon after, there was a series of knee-jerk patches. ANet seems extremely reluctant to admit that they goofed with Dhuumfire. Upon receiving feedback that Dhuumfire+Terror is EXTREMELY OVERPOWERED WOW, they instead opt to nerf everything else except the root of the problem…which forces people to use the “overpowered” build just to compete.

However, all of this talk of balance ignores the real issues. Necromancer is simply lacking. It lacks creativity. It lacks coherence. There are a thousand ideas for necromancers that could be implemented, including ideas that were already present in GW1. Necromancer abilities feel so watered down. Am I playing as a manipulator of life and death, or am I LARPing as a wizard who makes pretty lights that scratch people? For example:

-Whatever happened to sacrificing life to gain power? The corruption abilities are obviously supposed to be this, but their effects are paltry.

-What happened to manipulating conditions? Why is the underwater death shroud 4 ability so great yet implemented in a manner that makes it rarely usable? Why was Putrid Mark nerfed behind the scenes? Why is Plague Signet so unreliable?

-What’s up with the axe? Why does Ghastly Claws just do damage and provide lifeforce, instead of doing something secondary like crippling the target for a short time per hit? And why is Ghastly Claws the ability that provides lifeforce instead of the schizophrenic ability that is Unholy Feast?

-Why are so many necromancer builds reliant on autoattack? I understand that necromancer is a slower profession, but shouldn’t it be reactive in nature – as in, shouldn’t it be centered around taking advantage of opportunities and punishing opponents?

-Why are PvP condition builds reliant on BURST instead of attrition? Feast of Corruption is the most egregious part of this, being a very bursty “healing” ability.

-Why are so many of the traits simply…WEAK? Other professions have game-changing traits, but most necromancer traits are barely worth a second glance, some because they are in the wrong location, and others because they are beyond worthless. Even the “good” major traits are simply boring with few exceptions.

-Why are lifesteal and death shroud completely incompatible? And WHY is the new healing skill so HORRENDOUSLY BAD?

-Why is raising the dead from corpses limited to Reanimator? Isn’t a core theme of the necromancer about becoming stronger as people in the area die? Currently, this is limited to death shroud, which forces you into a very restricted set of abilities.

-Why is the necromancer so limited in PvE? Condition caps and Defiant basically ruin necromancers there.

-Why does the necromancer lack support options? Other professions can provide support even while doing massive amounts of damage and gaining access to defensive abilities, such as constant vigor uptime. Funny story – on my last fractal run, I was playing as my mesmer when we encountered the Mai Trin fight. Deciding that I wouldn’t need my focus, I switched its trait for mantra healing. This one trait provided more area healing than a necromancer can dream of, all while in a standard phantasm build wearing full berserker gear.

It feels as if necromancer is not as good as it could be – not in terms of just balance, but overall design. It’s a far cry from both the original necromancer in GW1 and the developers’ idea of how the necromancer is supposed to function in GW2. The fact that the developers continue to contradict themselves with each balance patch is very saddening.

In the end, of course, it’s just a game. However, with rumors that GW2 is supposed to become an e-sport, it would be prudent to at least get PvP into a balanced, playable state. Numerous suggestions have been made that could help accomplish this, but I feel as if the team is very disinclined to actually apply player feedback. Then again, I doubt very much that GW2 has any future in hardcore PvP at this point.

I’ve actually been playing a lot of necro in WvW as of late (coming from a warrior main) and I love it. My opinion may not hold the most weight as I only have a few hundred hours experience but I find them really fun and strong.

In terms of zerg fights, the shear amount of conditions, CC and dps they can put out is very strong. In 1v1s they are also very potent because of their death shroud, blinds, chills and weakness. I know as a warrior fighting a Necro, blinds and weakness are the bane of my existence. The ability of them to place all sorts of conditions make it difficult to cleanse the annoying bleeds, poisons and burns that can be put. I think they really shine though in small group roaming with their ability to apply condi pressure.

I don’t really know much about necro in PvE so I can’t comment on that. Sure they have some problems but I feel overall Necro’s are in a good place when WvW is concerned. Sure they have mobility problems, but a lot of that can be solved with better positioning.

I don’t see how a Necro’s inability to handle 2 hammer warriors is a litmus paper for necro balance. No class can handle 2 hammer warriors, at least 2 good ones. Sure roaming might be a little more difficult because of a lack of mobility, but I feel that the Necro has so many good tools that can make up for it. They have so many good utility skills, compared to other classes. Wells are amazing, spectral skills are very nice, most of the corruption skills are nice, minions are obviously niche builds. Signet of Spite and Locust is good too. I often have difficulty choosing what skills to take.

I often don’t have that much trouble in melee combat if I take spectral wall and wells. Unless of course I am getting focused hard, which any class could have trouble with.

Mobility is of course a little annoying coming from a warrior but in small scale group roaming and zerging I find it to be a non issue with good positioning. And maybe the lack of cleave that they have. I would like to see Dagger mastery give an additional effect of cleaving up to 3 targets on auto-attack.

I have fun on my necro. What I do find a little frustrating is mobility and its not that I can’t escape a fight that’s ok. Its that when we do fight people if they want to run we really can’t do anything about it. Sure we have roots and chilis and such but most mobility skills remove them when used and other mobility comes from weapons and seem to be unaffected by slows.

so its not so much that I need to stand and fight its more that I can’t make them stay and fight me.

It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!

Necro stopped being my primary character when the blood-magic-fix patch came out, and it turned out that Anet’s great idea to fix it was to shuffle things around with no significant improvement to anything.

I split my time between necro and engineer and guardian at that point.

Now… my engineer is my primary. Anet has proven to me that they have no idea how to fix the problems with necros, they instead nerf what is working for us while neglecting what isn’t.

When conditions are viable in zerg wvw, pve boss events, and/or power builds have a cleave and sufficient sustain to compensate for the lack of movement… I’ll come back to necro.

Already switched to Mesmer / Warrior – it’s great to feel poweful in WvW.

i main a mesmer and then got so frustrated with being a veilbot in wvw, that i switched to power necro. for roaming i agree with u, mes are incredible, but in a zerg, we lack lots of aoe as our phantasms are either buggy or die in 3 hits. warriors though still rule wvw with masssive cc spam and immobilize stacking.
i really hope though that both mes and necro will get some wvw love though…

tl:dr all the posts here, sorry… but in spvp specifically , the cond necro has been really nerfed. survivability vs melee has decreased dramatically, while our damage output has also shrunk to below pre-dhuumfire levels. We’re stuck in cookie cutter builds that aren’t as survivable nor as potent. necro is my main, good thing I enjoy the far less dominant power/dagger spvp builds.

I already gave up months Necro (and GW2 in general) months ago. I’m going to finish the map and then probably never return. Why should I be punished by starting another profession – I don’t want to have to redo everything again to get 100% map completion. I waited so long for a true update, that way it would be fun and more efficient when I do it, that I sacrificed when the population at large was playing PvE, and not just the Living Story of the month crap everybody cares does only for the points and items. Now Cursed Shore and seemingly all of PvE is dead, Anet has shown any interest in fixing this, and Necro still is pretty much the same. I don’t have any hope for GW2.

I’m holding out hope that once GW2 comes out in China we will see a serious change in attitude from arena net towards the game. But its a small sliver of hope and I am looking for another game to play right now.

The necromancer is the same for me as it has been since the dhuumfire introduction. The only difference is the problem I had before that patch have only gotten worse and the living story content has become less and less appealing to the point of repulsion.

If I stop playing the necromancer, it will be because I stopped playing GW2. And any love I had for arena net will have died.

A heal/condition build saved my Necro from being discontinued in my gameplay: it allows me to stand my ground in the front line, flinging & stacking conditions whilst siphoning and healing ridiculously, making it both good for WvW as I can take a Camp single handedly and keep people alive for once with a consistently large heal. Try it, you’d probably like it!

Played necro a lot, and it was my wvw main. But after they totally nerfed necro solo ability (roaming in wvw, dungeon capability, etc) I dropped it. I tried a few times coming back with different builds, but didn’t work out. Necro is truly death state now (pun intended).

On the contrary, ANet is going so far as to give other classes new abilities to hard counter one single necromancer build that they seem completely unable to balance in any way. It’s quite obvious why Diamond Skin was added.
