So, here’s a discussion: Reapers have been stated to be slow swinging yet extremely powerful with the capability to continuously chill enemies. Chronomancers have the ability to slow and gain benefit off interruptions, including CI’s immobilization, along with the easy access to quickness and alacrity.

Chronomancer’s lockdown ability seems to be the natural enemy of Reaper’s long wind-ups, but together the Reaper can gain quickness for 26 seconds or so via double Time Warp and Tides of Time. With that, Reaper is not only powerful but unfairly fast.

Do Necro’s see this same potential synergy between our Elites?

The only thing trouble me is the mesmer ability to lock necros easly since necros dont have stability.and now it will be much easier.

Personally I am looking forward to working with our new Necromancer overlords :P. There seems to be potential for a crazy amount of synergy between the two elites at the moment, with the slow-but-powerful AOE attacks and Chill application of the Reaper with the stun/slow/quickness application of the Chronomancer (I guess we will know more after the live stream). Between the two, the unfortunate sod on the other end is gonna have a bad time. As for fighting against? Chrono has the mobility, slow application, and quickness to make melee rough but one mistake means getting wrecked by that GS. I’m really hoping you guys get defiance as either an “on-activation” effect for DS, or as an elite (or both?). Here is hoping that together we can be at the forefront of the new emerging meta! : )

AoE is a Mesmer’s worst enemy…

My Necro eats Mesmers for breakfast as is. Imagine with this AoE focused Elite Spec… He would be suicide to a Mesmer…

AOE isn’t that hard to deal with as a Mesmer. AOE without a stun break (blink, decoy, illusionary leap) or evade (blink, dodge, blurred frenzy) or while being immobilized (Shatter-Spec’d Mesmers really blow vs conditions)… that is rough : ). Best solution to making AOE stick? Just bait those CD’s and then getting the Mesmer is a breeze.

Overall I would say that pressure is the bane of many Mesmers and it is something a good Necromancer can dish it out in large helpings. Being able to take a beating also helps. I have lost count on how many times that I have bursted a Necromancer down to almost nothing only to have them pop death shroud and return the favor. Easily my favorite class to duel, and the fights are usually always close. Can’t wait to see the new Necromancer Elite in action!

Honestly, I’m a bit surprised that people are overlooking the core inspiration of the Reaper: “Slow survival-horror killers like Pyramid-head or Jason”

This right here, IMO, is the biggest indicator that the reaper will have some sort of stability or CC prevention in spades. What makes survival monsters so scary isn’t how strong they are, it’s that they are relentless and unstoppable.

So yeah, as a team the Chronoreaper combo will be deadly. Reaper’s AoEs combined with Chrono’s Quickness, Alacrity, and ability to stun enemies in place will make for hell of a team.

But versus? Sorry Reapers, we’re dancing on you through time and space simply because of all our evades. I’m betting locking a good reaper down will likely be difficult, but we’ll find out tomorrow.
