Compilation: New Death Magic Minor Ideas
I got bored, so here’s a couple more:
Minor Traits:
Bitter Ordeal – Gain toughness for each unique condition on you.
Devour in Shadow – Chance to steal boons on hit while in death shroud.
Affliction – Chance to transfer a condition when struck by nearby foes.
Bond of Agony – Gain retaliation while suffering from damaging conditions.
Master Traits:
Pain Split – Reflect damage when you take damage greater than a percentage of your maximum health. (10% threshold, 33% reflection)
Living End – If you would take lethal damage while you have life force, you lose all life force instead.
Added. I actually like maintaining this list. More ideas, please!
Death Magic:
Reanimator – Decrease cool down to 10seconds. dont combine it with Death Nova
Protection of The Horde – Increase Toughness gain to +50
Deadly Strength – Increase toughness converted to 15%
Dark Armor – Change it to +400Toughness while inside DeathShroud
Shrouded Removal – Increase conditions to 2/3
Necrotic Corruption – change it to your attacks, Say 50% chance on crit, 10second CD
Those are changes to existing traits rather than new ones.
Though dark Armor could easily replace Re-animator
New ones:
Corrupted Death – 50% Chance to send condition to target on Crit, 5seccool down
Corrupted Life – 50% Chance to steal Boon from target on Crit, 5second cool down
Necrotic Rituals: First spell cast in Death Shroud has increased potency, unknown trigger, effects are as follow: Twin life blast – 2 of em fired in the same cast, Corrupt Path – Dark Path corrupts 3 boons into conditions and immobilizes the target for 2 seconds in addition to normal shiz, Whispers of Oblivion – fear with undefined duration, Soul Transfer op version of LT that seems to have no channel time
would be VERY cool.

B) THAT shiz was actually in game, for some reason it got removed, all spells and the trait are technically still coded in, even if the Life blasts deal a empty offset of damage and fear has no duration set which would make it not apply at all, be a interrupt or be infinite duration.

I dunno, now that they reduced the silly cool down it had i kinda like reanimator.
I think I would change the skills from it should it ever come back:

Death Blast – Life blast now fires 4 individual shots that deal 50% damage. Each Hit corrupts a Boon into a condition – Making them individual would mean that dodging once would negate all the damage. 50% damage still means its doing the same damage as before, but in 4 lower hitting shots. Give say 1second between them hitting the target. Some added Boon hate, coz we all love it.
Corrupt Path – Dark Path now corrupts 3 boons into conditions and immobilizes the target for 2 seconds in addition to normal shiz. This is pretty much fine as long as they actually make the skill WORK
Whispers of Oblivion – fear with duration between 2.5seconds and 5seconds (Base)
Soul Transfer – Life Transfer now is an instant cast, has a 100% Longer duration and returns 6% Life Force
Not quite sure about Tainted Shackles though
Reanimator needs to go even if it had no CD and spawned 30 with every kill, protection of the horde even more so.
@Ash/Andele: Currently, those are wildly overpowered.
Some more I thought up.
Adept Trait
Sweet Suffering – You gain protection when you apply three or more conditions to a foe. (In 1 hit.)
Grim Return – Death shroud recharges and you gain 50% life force when you rally.
Master Trait
Premature Burial – Apply torment to foes whenever you impede their movement. (Immobilize, Cripple, and Chill)

Adept Minor: Toxic Life: Whenever you are afflicted with Poison, gain Might.
Master Minor: Well of Spite: When you take more than 10% of your HP in a single attack, place a Well of Darkness at your feet. With Focused Rituals, place it at your attacker’s feet.
New ideas added. Let’s please keep the discussion on the minor traits, though. Clear, focused discussion is more likely to produce good results.
Undecided tier: Creeping Fatigue – When your target reaches 50% health, siphon endurance for each condition on your target (X%).
Here’s what I think are somewhat interesting:
ADEPT:
Immunotoxin: For necros that like using corruptions, this is really useful. Perhaps having it reduce the duration/stacks of self inflicted conditions?
Last Breath: I like this one because I’ve always wanted to make good use of main-hand dagger skills, being able to kite and life-drain with Dagger 2, this seems somewhat useful. Not to mention DS’s 4 skill. Multi targeted Chill is something I can get behind.
Spectral Armor: Simple and elegant, it could help necros become a more viable anchor/controller in PVE scenarios.
MASTER:
Undying Flesh: This one seems a little strong. Maybe, but I think there would have to be a good trade-off, like you can’t gain life force from weapon skills.
Hypothermia: Why not have it read as: Whenever you chill an enemy, you also Weaken them?
Swarm of Discord : This one needs to be re-written the effects seem too obtuse to me. These should use the conditions that exist in some way, not create new pseudo conditions.
So how about we make it into: "30% Chance on crit against targets that are afflicted by Chilled, Crippled, Weakness, Blind, Immobilize, or Vulnerability will also be struck with an additional condition (This trait applies to the condition with the longest remaining duration):
Chilled: Also applies Weakness for 4 seconds.
Weakness: Also applies Bleeding for 3 seconds.
Crippled: Also applies Torment for 3 seconds.
Blind: Also applies Chilled for 4 seconds.
Immobilize: Also applies Burning for 3 seconds.
Vulnerability: Also applies Poison for 5 seconds.
Life After Death – healing from boons, allies and siphons will now function while in Death Shroud.
Would be a decent Death trait to make finally Minion Master a competitive bunker.
But I see it better in the Blood Tree.

Uses “Animate Thread”
This discussion is pretty important to the class. We can’t let it be forgotten until the traits change.
Well if we’re necro’ing the thread…
Aegis on entering DS would be more useful then on leaving, sknce you can ‘f1 to block’ instead flash in flash out.
I’m not a fan of gaining protection when you get retaliation, since you’d basically have to use axe and spiteful spirit to get decent use out of it. Straight up protection on entering ds, or when hit by a crit are much less… restricting.
Blind on leaving DS would make dark pathing onto people much more amusing.

Reanimator and protection of the horde don’t need to be completely removed. To be honest, since they’re nerfing minion masters next patch with that blanket nerf anyway, I wouldn’t be surprised if the follow up patch combined protection of the horde into flesh of the master, and did the death nova thing.
a suggestion to changing re-animator with it combining into death nova:
Death nova: upon minion death, minion explodes into a posion field dealing direct damage. (no cooldown) If a non-jagged horror minion dies, it also spawns a jagged horror. (10 second cooldown).
S/I/F engineer Z/R/D guard
1. Combine Adept Minor: Reanimator with Master Major: Flesh of the Master
2. New Adept Minor: Life Corruption, Life blast poisons target for 3 seconds on critical hit, cooldown 10 seconds.
3. Combine Master Minor: Protection of the Horde with Grandmaster Major: Deathnova.
4. Not sure about what to replace Master Minor with. I thought about doing something like Shadow Skin, gain protection for 3seconds while entering Death Shroud with a 30 second cool down.
Life Corruption added. Shadow Skin is nearly identical to a trait idea already presented.
Also added Reaper’s Tenacity, even though it was in a different thread.

Refreshing bumping this cause we can’t let those two traits kill the usefulness of Death Magic.
Has there been no further comment about changes to neco, in particular those two traits?

4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant
These two traits do more than possibly any other two traits in the game when it comes to killing build diversity. Really, fixing these traits should be a serious priority. I really really hope these will be fixed in the feature build. Otherwise I don’t think us necro’s can expect any love.

The next feature patch I’m sure won’t have them. For one, there has been no discussion at all from the devs to us letting us know what might be happening. Two, did you honestly think they would roll it out in only 3 months? This is ANet we’re talking about.
Sadly this isn’t even a change that warrants this large a period of silence from the developers. I have 10 filler trait points on my current build that I’d love to throw into death magic if reanimator stopped scaring me away each time.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
