Q:

Hi,

Looking for help finishing the linked build, basically I took every Trait that had ‘Staff’ in it. The build is general game play solo and group.

Is there something in it or not and why?

Thanks

I would leave out the 10% damage on marks as even in power builds it isn’t much damage. There are definitely better options than that one.

Was thinking maxing out power line for 20% extra dmg below 50% and then using something like Eagle Rune for 5% extra dmg below 50% and with 10% extra mark dmg thats 35% extra Putrid Mark which should hit north of 6k!

Can a ‘Staff’ build stand on its own two feet?? Other than bosses that are stationary of course.

Would it be more worth it to grab targeted, lower cooldown wells and greater marks/staff cooldown instead of 30 spite for 10% marks and closer to death? Something like 0/25/25/20/0. Just curious. (Closer to Death is an amazing trait and it’s hard to avoid the deep spite investment on any power build.)

Cempa, you need to provide more details on what your tactics are going to be…what I mean is are you planning on trying Wellmancer, Zoomancer or Condomancer?

Fill in your slot skills to help people get a better idea of what you are looking at.

Just an FYI, Zoomancer spec is great for soloing PvE champs that don’t have a massive AOE attack.

Thats the thing, I didn’t start with a ‘role’ in mind, though I play WvW and PvE dungeons solo and small groups with the odd zerg.

The slots are blank on purpose as not to derail any possible direction.

The question is looking at Necro Traits, we find ‘Staff’ specific talents spread around, can it lead to something or not?

I find that however direction I go (power or condo) I love opening with staff and love the mark mechanic…Staff to me is a perfect weapon as long as abilities are available other than auto which is just for life force.

Staff is viable, IMO, though, it takes time to master using it and evading at the right time.

Staff is godawful in power builds. Only one ability hits reasonably well, and that’s on a 40s timer. The only time you should be using staff 1 is when you’ve used all the marks you should use (or the one you switched to staff to use) and you’ve got time to kill, or when you positively HAVE to be at 1200 range.

At all other times, staff is terrible in all builds. Sceptre/dagger applies more conditions, axe or dagger does more power damage.

Building “around” staff is a terrible mistake and your build will suck. That’s not to say you shouldn’t use staff, because the condition transfer, AoE fear and bleed/chill/poison are great, but building “around” it is folly.

I agree with most of what you say, though it is very good for Zoomancers…though it should never be your only weapon and building around staff is “folly”. Staff works differently with each skill set and trait spec. It is very situation dependent.

I’m currently using a 20/0/25/0/25 build with staff and scepter/dagger that I’m pretty happy with (I just PVE). The DM and SR minors at 25 are pretty good. It mixes cleric, carrion, and other stats in a non-minmaxed kind of build. I’m sure some be appalled at it.

It came about as a variation on my Vengeful Cleric build in my sig. I’m at work now, but I’ll post the whole thing tonite when I get home.

Edit: here is the build….I’m still somewhat undecided between carrion or berzerker for the weapons. Yes, the crit chance is low, but with 25 in SR I’d kinda like to use the 25% crit dmg, and would use sigil of perception instead of bloodlust. Also, I might try Adventurer runes instead of Undead. In any case, its quite sturdy and the high healing power gives alot of regen, which raised the EHP:
