Q:
I am currently running the 30/20/0/0/20 I was running master of terror trait but after using soul marks I find it hard to give up the trait now.
I know scepter 3 can give LF back and spectral skills and traits. I wanted to know how you guys out there gain LF or do you not really worry about it at all?
Was there a build previously that many run or ran that allowed you to be condi spec but still have good ways to regen LF. I like the dhuumfire trait and I would be willing to give it up if I had something that was more tankyish but still had good condition damage.
When I don’t take soul marks trait I feel like if I engage and have lf force to start I am fine until it is depleted it seems hard to build it back up. Are the spectral skills/traits worth it to help with LF regen?
Sorry it is more than 1 question. Just wanted to get some more experienced insight on LF management regen etc.
A:
I found I didn’t use the staff enough to get much out of soul marks. As they have improved the procs (like dumbfire) that you can get while staying on scepter, I find myself much less likely to go to staff, unless I really need the AOE fear.
Honestly with 15 points in SR, as often as I get pounded on, I don’t have many issues with LF. But of course I play WvW, where you always start fights with full life force, and people are generally dying nearby (and clones), giving me more life force. It is very common for me to enter plauge with 25% LF, and to come out with 100%.
I agree in PVP it is nearly impossible to generate enough. I found myself around 0-25% all the time when I try and play that mode. Hopefully the words of the devs at increasing our generation on scepter will pan out.
I feel the same way about Soul Marks, especially when scepter is my offhand weapon – scepter is very weak LF gen. If I am using axe, then I rely on axe for LF gen.
I find Signet of Undeath and the trait Reapers Precision to be very poor at adding much LF. I’ve never really run a spectral build, but that would be another way to generate LF.
Condi spec LF generation is an absolute joke compared to direct-damage LF generation. Scepter either needs some LF generation on the autoattack or Curses needs a better way to generate LF on the side; just buffing Reaper’s Protection to 66% or 100% chance of generating LF on crit would go a long way.
But to answer your question: in PvE or WvW, I just keep an eye out for ambient creatures and then kill them with my staff auto. Staff autos can generate an incredible amount of LF if you send them into a crowd, so there’s that as well. Switching to Scepter/Dagger, though, I pretty much give up all hope of getting LF unless there are a bunch of mobs dying around me.

I use Warhorn instead of Dagger, Locust Swarm generates around 1.7% LF per enemy per second. So if you are around a lot of clones and pets and players, this will blow up your LF pool.
In WvW i have no problem generating it because people are constantly dying.
Munch on the poor critters as you run by, that’s about it in WvW. Don’t spend too long in Death Shroud. Go in, cast what you were intending, or soak the big hit with it, and get back out.
thanks guys for the feedback. I am currently trying 30 points in soul reaping I dropped 10 from curses. So far it seems pretty decent I feel my DS is much more tankier than before
