Jon peters: you will probably be pretty happy
Visiting Ranger o/
It’s Jon Peters…I’d guess you’re getting a model update on one of your minions
Sorry, but “you will probably be pretty happy with next week” is not good enough 10 months in.
Show me. Then we will see.
Probably won’t be big enough to pick up my necro again, maybe in 3 months time.
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
Sounds promising, but we’ll have to see.
I’ve heard things about the upcoming patch. Very good things :P. And yes, Jon Peters was there and did say that Necromancer players will probably like the upcoming patch.
Don’t expect this to fix every problem we have, but from what I have heard, it is a nice step in the right direction.
Would be funny if all they fixed was the health bug in downed mode :P

If that’s a Necro axe it won’t help
All I’m expecting of this patch is broad changes to traits across all professions. I want the changes to also be good, well thought-out ones that curb power without removing play styles and create new ways to look at the abilities already in the game.
But failing that, I will hope for at least one real alteration in every trait line.
It’s pretty obvious, and nobody’s impressed.

Call me a cynic if you will, but the “probably” in that sentence seems ominous to me. And after the amount of time we have been broken and on the back burner a “will be quite happy” would have made me feel a bit better.
They hyped rangers a lot with previous patches and you saw what they got.
If you’ve been playing since BWE1, you’ve heard it before. Wait and see.
TBH, I’m expecting worse than nothing at this point – HP not fixed, our classes changes pale in comparison to other already powerful class changes and some new bugs which will screw us over in ways we have yet to imagine.
I believe it was JP who suggested weapon swapping was an integral part of DS and he didn’t want to touch the meta because people hadn’t “mastered DS”, so I think I’ll take his suggestions about upcoming patches or anything else really with a 4 ton delivery of salt.
And our ranger chums have a solid point too. Never, ever, believe the hype.
(disclaimer: I love this game, think necros are borderline OP in 1v1 and play every day, but I don’t trust devs in this game one jot)
All I really want from this patch is stability on spectral armor.
Does anyone remember the ‘rangers will be happy’ patch a while back? With a bunch of tooltip and underwater fixes and a shortbow nerf?
All I really want from this patch is stability on spectral armor.
Stability on a 90 second CD… rofl… exactly what we were missing all along.
Nemesis live-stream channel - focusing mainly on Guild Wars 2, League of Legends and Dota II.

To be honest any form of stability would be welcomed, but i think your forgetting about Last Gasp.
Commander Ascii :: Tempest Wolves [TW] :: Sanctum of Rall :: Best Necromancer NA
a complete rework to be how we were in GW?!
:D
;( prolly not

Well I think it’s an elegant change. Spectral Armor needs a buff and Necromancers need stability, it’s a perfect fit.
Truth be told I would make a lot of changes if I were in charge, but my main concern is WvW, and there Necromancers excel both on defense and in a zerg, so all I really want is the ability to set up my bar such that I don’t have to blow plague every time I want to engage a rifle engi / hammer warrior.
The thing I’m looking forward to the most is the changes they said they’d make to the life stealing mechanics. Assuming those traits ever become worth investing in, and healing is made to work in death shroud, we will have the potential for some very nice interaction with life transfer.
Knowing A.Net though, they’ll probably give us even more offensive tools (-cough- DOT condition on DS5 -cough-) which imho we don’t really need, and zero attrition capability which of course is what the Necromancer is desperate for. I also don’t think this update in and of itself will have as much of an impact as JP implies. Instead what we’re probably in for is a gradual series of incremental improvements over the next few months or so, as per A.Net’s usual “avoid whack-a-mole” policy. Pity that policy didn’t prevent them from hitting the Necro with their Devastating Nerfhammer™ in the beta, but that’s life I guess.
For my part, seeing is believing.
Well… When “A normal” necro patch is changing tooltips, a good one for necros is most likely name change for one of the skills… Or something

Or a bugfix on an underwater skill.
I’m becoming disillusioned, and have stopped advancing on my Necro. I’m trying other professions. So I hope this is something major.
Here’s a sample of what will be updated:
Necro:
- New Death Magic grandmaster trait: “Don ’t just stand there! Do something!”: Your minions will stop just walking around and looking pretty and actually try attacking your enemies. (50 second cooldown)
Mesmer:
- Your illusion’s response time has been improved to 0.0000000001 second.

stoked for this patch. Minion AI buff woot!

Am I the only person that’s glad they’re actually taking their time with updates? I’m having no problems with this class, all it really needs are reflects to be more useful in higher level fractals and some stability – I’d rather have slower updates than one massive one where suddenly everyone and their mother bandwagons onto the class in PvP/PvE (hello thieves in sPvP)

I don’t think they’re gonna go that far in boosting us

Huh? This bug is terrible, and 10 months in it still hasn’t been fixed. If the ONLY thing this patch brought was the downed hp fix, I’d be glad.
I expect tooltip fixes.

What the necromancer needs the most is the ability to be a real attrition class. We need some hard defense other than reliance on a fast depleting life force and the useless high health. Currently, in tournaments, necromancers are a favorite focus fire target due to their defensive inability.
A boost to weakness and more reliable ways for necro to apply this condition can go a long way.

Am I the only person that’s glad they’re actually taking their time with updates?
Yes and no. The “slow and steady wins the race” approach may prevent the vicious cycles of buffing and nerfing — but it also means we’re spending months waiting on class balance while watching low skill classes like thief chew through everything in their path.
I suppose it can’t be helped, either way you choose is less than optimal.

The very fact that we should be very happy on a balance patch helps to verify how unhappy we should have been up to that point… If we are getting that many buffs and quality of life increases it just highlights how not so great things were.

Thing is it really isn’t preventing that cycle at all, it’s just happening in slow motion.

This. So instead of having unreasonable nerfs reverted or fixed in the week after it becomes obvious, we get to wait one, two, six months. Or, more accurately, waiting since release to get the Beta-nerf-repercussions fixed.
That was after I said the Necro was disappointing. I stopped playing 6 months and when I came back recently I saw pretty much only bug fixes in the patch notes.
Do I trust him when he says I will be happy after all these months of nothing ? Well on his standards I would, but on mine it would have to be major for me to not go play FF XIV or Wildstar and I doubt i can be.
100% World completion.
Isn’t this the guy that thought warriors would be happy with banner buffs?

I have a good feeling about this!
Call me too optimistic if you will.
As far as I remember, necromancers were pretty happy after the update which improved minions (bug fixes mostly) and the axe and focus. The joy didn’t last very long though.
I certainly expect something much bigger than that this time cause a few bug fixes won’t cut it any more. I think all classes will get some major buffs and if the necromancer is to stay in line with the rest, the update to them should be grand.
Honestly, I’m pretty kitten ed.
Im happy with this! The new condition seems great in combination with wells! Either stay in the wells and die, or move out of them to die. My only fear right now… the new condition will hit for like… 20 damage and people will just teleport around and it wont trigger
This isn’t the necromancer. This is the Warlock. Don’t call it the necromancer, because it isn’t the necromancer.
http://www.guildwars.com/gameplay/professions/necromancer/ this is the necromancer. May you rest in peace.
I hope I won’t be disappointed next week…

I do find it refreshing that there were only about 2 people with some kind of “hope” left. The general consensus that nobody trusts or believes a kitten thing anet says speaks volumes on the real state of this title. When the end user doesn’t trust their service provider no matter what they say, when expectations are below null… you know the service is rotten in its very core and there is sadly no patch that can fix that.
Also… why is image insertion such an anal adventure in these forums… just to bloody quote and image? Is it a crime… why do I need to download then upload it for kittens sake. Oh wait… its anet… Never mind folks, working as intended.

Let’s see… what would balance the necro… cracks fingers
-Increased CDs on staff skills by 50%. They were too low
-Burning
-Reduced axe and dagger AoE capabilities because they were too strong
-Burning
-Removed all stun breakers and replaced them with minion skills (to revive the old minion master builds)
-Wells no longer deal damage, but apply the ‘Wet’ condition, which increases the amount of lightning damage the enemy takes. Warning: this removes burning.
I’d be very happy if axe #1 and #2 didn’t need a target to hit. Pretty much every other attack skill in game hist whatever is in front of you, but necro axe just happily swishes at the air.
Fix necro downstate health bug! Then I’ll be slightly more happy…

So the warlock is getting an update. Oh Joy… Arena Net, when are you going to bring back the necromancer from GW1? what expansion can I expect that?
