Dear Guild Wars 2 Necromancer forum users.

I could use some advice what my next step would be.

What I mean by that, is that I’ve leveled a necromancer to level 63 only to figure out too late that my end-game build were misunderstood. My dream was to have a melee cloth wearer that could support a group by healing them by small amounts. As I understood the Transfusion trait as “All life transfer (life siphons and ect.)” would heal my party members as well as me. So I could build a necromancer based around healing power and crit chance.

So basically after first discovering this now, I feel more or less like a cheap version of a dagger-dagger thief.

So what do i do now. Continue or make my luck elsewere.

Well Necromancers can be really good heal/support still even when you misunderstood it and if you want to play with dagger it’s even better, There is quite a few “heals” you can do party wide, Life Transfer can be traited for heals, You can even trait it for lower cooldown, Well of Blood can heal quite a bit, Everytime you leave death shroud you heal allies around you is also a healing trait, so don’t be discouraged at all necromancers can really heal quite well when you make an original build out of it you can also take the well traits too for extra protection and shorter cooldowns for even more support/heal,

So my advice just keep at it really.

Can you link to your intended build so we can see what you originally had in mind?
(use http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/ or other build editor).

For incremental healing of allies, there are other options such as Sigil of Renewal or Water.

Necros can also offer Protection to nearby allies via wells, which are good in a Power build. See my Protector build for ideas:

Maybe something like this?
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fQIQNAoYWjQaV6ZaKbM8JCpCYb6B3Gn4ge8ed5MA-jACBYLCiEEgE1BKBqIasVSFRjVvATViIq2boIa1SBonyI-e

It provides:
- good Power/Prec/Crit (2522/45%/44%) for dagger/dagger melee
- uses wells to provide siphoning for you, Protection for you & allies in the wells
- Renewal sigils for AoE healing on weapon swap (could instead use Water sigils)
- Pack runes for AoE Fury, Might, Swiftness boon chance

Another direction to go is more of a focus on Healing Power, such as my Vengeful Cleric build:

Just some ideas….

You should know, Life siphoning doesnt get affected by healing power, BUT if i understood right, it will after the october 15th patch. Not sure though

It was my dream too, was also a bit upsetting to find our siphons didn’t heal others around us. Especially as Guards & Ele’s can passively heal without needing to hit things.
Also, the amount that siphon’s do, is pretty low. (A Ele’s #6 Sig of Rest is 202+ heals power, necro trait is 25 + heals power. I know thief also get’s a non-trait cost life on hit that’s much much much bigger than ours. They did fix our trait to work with healing power, but only +6 if fully geared in heals power.)

Anyway, as people have said. The dev’s said there’s a big blood magic tree fix up. I’m not going to hold my breath, but with the promised pve Minions fix’s coming, it will hopefully be viable to have minions heal us.

As for support, I’d recommend wells. Transfusion, also tho no help to heal you as your in DS, is a sexy heal to the party, in burst AoE times, while you AoE’ing. Well of Blood isn’t a bad heal even without healing power. It’s also got one of the better co-efficient heal power to actual heals in game. Staff #2 can keep constant regen on meele/people near the mobs.
Tho, healing isn’t our forty. Were more the death side of things.
We can drop lots of nice Dark Combo Fields. While dishing out decent damage.
We deal quite nicely with removing conditions, and sending them back to the mobs. (Tho Putrid Mark is buggy at the moment and doesn’t do it for allies)
Also, what I see lots of necro’s forget, is the importance of poison. 1/3rd less heals on many dungeon boss’s that heal, is super nice. (Chills and weakness are also something we can do at the right times and the group doesn’t even realize how much help we gave.)

Anyway, if you want a pure, 100% support type. I’d recommend Guard/Ele. (Even a Eng to some degree)
If you want a damage geared toon, that dose some very nice group help, while dishing it out. Stay necro ;-P

There are really no ‘healer’ classes in GW2. All classes can sort of heal to some extent but whether this is really worth it or not depends on the situation. Often, healing is not as important as is killing things faster.

Actually you can quite easily build Necro as a 100% support type. The problem being that generally speaking our “aggressive” support and massive over time healing isn’t nearly as valued as “passive” support. This is because offensive support is done by hitting a bunch of enemies with conditions, which are fairly easily removed, and require landing skills constantly (as well as only hitting 5 targets), whereas boons require no skill to land, are harder to remove, and will affect your entire party.

Necro have none of the things needed for good support neither for himself or his group.

id assume this is for pve? healers are horrible in pve atm (support is good… but you can do support and dps)… if you really want to provide defensive support guardian does it best (reflects, deflects, aegis, condi removal, stability, blinds, protection, regen and 180 toughness boost for party)… but again… this is obtainable whilst being ‘dps’

for wvw support is done best by eles and guards (though necro booncorrupting is delicious… oh you just stacked might? ret? stability? ahahahahaha)

Desolation: 80 ranger [Nightwither], 80 necro [Dusk Grimsoul]
80 warr [Blaze Steelsoul], 80 ele [Blaze Nightstrike], 80 mesmer [Grim Shatterwhirl]
80 guard [Dusk Grimlight], 80 engi [Flintgear]

Necromancer has a lot of small heals via regen, life trans, WoB, even WoP but does not have a “spike” heal, which people need to truly rescue a player low on health. The majority of Necromancer’s party support is in chill, blind, etc. Unfortunately, these conditions are not well appreciated and are unable to make a save. Running Signet of Undeath is bitter-sweet, at best.
