Pretty much what the title says.

I recently made a necro in my effort to make one char of each class “just to be there” and I found it quite fun to play with staff in wvw as part of a zerg. He’s not max level yet but is getting there and I would like some help setting up some build for him.

What I would like to do is run with the zerg and spam the enemies with conditions.

This implies that I use staff with traits and ???/warhorn as a secondary set. I would chose warhorn because of the speed buff and I think the stun can be useful in engagements. Then again, offhand dagger seems good in large scale fighting as well… Also, I am not sure which mainhand weapon to use, but it seems that dagger is out of the question since it has no AoE skills, while both axe and scepter have one. Of the 2, axe seems more useful due to boon stripping.

Now, for the bonuses to attributes… I think there should be some Dire in there (and, because of some lucky ascended drops, I have 2 Dire weapon chests waiting to be opened), but maybe spiced with something to pack a bit more punch. I am unsure as to Carrion or Rabid, but am leaning towards Rabid because I do want a higher critical chance for activating sigils and necro already has a nice health pool so a little more toughness might come in handy (besides, there will be a HP boost from the Dire pieces and AF). What spread of attributes do you guys think are best between Dire and Carrion/Rabid for armor/weapons/trinkets? Or perhaps other attributes than these?

As for the traits themselves, I am unsure yet which are best but it seems to me either 6/6/2/0/0 or 6/6/0/2/0 is the way to go.

Finally, for runes and sigils… I would think Melandru Runes and a Sigil of Energy on each set, but am wondering what would be a good choice for the other sigil spot: Torment or Fire? I would lean towards Torment because more conditions on enemies is always an awesome thing and everyone runs around a lot during zergfests so that stack is gonna do its full job.

Anyhow, these are my thoughts. Any impressions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

I feel you have some good ideas, go with them, try new things, and don’t invest too much too early (especially considering the upcoming feature patch). A condi necro’s main weapon is typically scepter with dagger off-hand and staff as utility (rabid and/or dire gear, but some swear by carrion).

Now… conditions are cleansed rapidly in big fights, and that could potentially be a bigger challenge to you than your condi build variety. There’s a risk you by yourself are not going to achieve much, but it’s another story if you have a hoard of condi friends by your side.

I would check my server and how they play, if I were you. I’ve played for 3 servers myself and I can see a condi necro work better/worse in zergs depending of the context.

A dps build is a safer bet for zergs.

Cheers

Depends on how organize your zerg is, condition isn’t very good in zerg. Organized guild raid can cleanse conditions in no time. Hammer train frontline have cleansing ire/purging flame/pure of voice plus melandru rune. And with the many water field, conditions just ain’t gonna stay long.

However, if your and enemy zerg are mostly pugs, who have little to no organization. Then it’s fine. I run fear necro in Eotm. Rabid with perplexity, 4/6/0/0/4. Depends on your build and playstyle whehter you need crit, full dire would work too. I don’t feel like the need to run carrion because of high hp pool and many cleanse/condi transfer we have but some like it. And scepter is the main condition weapon we have.
