Need help to understand Necromancer (lv 42)
Necromancers lack survivability when focused. They highly rely on death shroud to survive. You should rotate between your offensive abilities outside of DS, and stay in it a bit when taking damage to avoid loosing actual health. Utilities like well of darkness for blinds and spectral armor will boost your survivability. But even then, you shouldn’t die in open world. Maybe update your gear to have level 40 gear or so?
For levelling, I highly suggest having Bone Minions (or Bone Fiend, which is more reliable at attacking) on your skill bar, at least until you start getting a feel for how the class plays. They provide enough extra meat to draw some fire off you, but not so much you don’t have to learn the class’ defenses and playstyles.
Just one minion skill, though. More than that, and you aren’t actually learning much.

My advice is learn how to move well. Kiting and dodging are important skills, especially as a necro. Also make sure you update your weapons and armor every 10 levels. Use good sigils, runes and food. I agree minions will help as well while leveling. Contact me in game any time. I’ve played necro since day 1.
Try to get the elite skill fleshgolem. When the ai doesnt bug out it is a good minion for tanking. With that you can stay behind and attack safely.
OP: it would help if you posted your current build and tactics.
As a matter of fact, necros are one of the hardest professions to kill on pve, if traited ok (some may say that ANY profession is hard to be killed on pve, but imho, necro is hardest).
imho, the best way to solo pve and don’t get killed is running a minion master buld (i.e. going with minions). They will attack (sometimes) and “tank” for you, and you will get out of every fight pretty untouched. One time, I even leave the necro alone, to get a snack, and when I returned he had gain a level, thx to the minions.
This is the build I normally use.

Even then, don’t be afraid to test new weapons, skills, and trais, because that is the way you will learn about the class. And remember that when you max out your level, or when you start going to dungeons and fractals, you should think about changing your build. Minions are not so good agains aoe attacks of dungeon’s bosses.
