Revenant Getting What We've Always Wanted?
Yep. Revenant is everything the necromancer should have been. its quite frustrating.
I have 5500 hours on my necro and I’m already considering ditching it for what we just saw.
I think I should remove this quote given the recent developement.

Mace/Axe revenant:
-Torment and poison cleave on the auto attack
-Burning of course
-Confusion
-TRIPLE blast finisher
-a superior version of dark path that is more like thief’s Shadow Shot.
And then there are Corruption-like utilities, but just better.
Also, hammer got Lifesteal that actually seems to work and doesnt require any traits. Just dark wall and 100% projectile on auto attack
Really looks like the class was designed with ‘kitten YOU NECROS, just reroll already’ in mind.

Bit worried that Condi Revenant will hard counter condi necro, but then again, condi necro is hard countered by AutoResponse and Diamond Skin.
Other than that… Eh. It’s hard to tell how these skills will bear out without seeing them in proper play, and in interaction with their class mechanic. All of the play we saw today was devoid of stance-switching mid-combat.
I can’t wait until we see condi Revenants stacking condis on themselves, thinking they’ll be super powerful, and then just dropping dead.

What’s the point, we have been begging for a rebalance for necromancer, so that blood magic would not be totally useless, so that the class has more synergy withing it’s traits, for the past 2 something years.
What makes you believe they are gona listen now?
What i am willing to bet my arm on is that the following happens: necromancers get a specialization that gives them the great sword and thus better access to cleave and changes how they use life force, every necomancer player chooses to role as the specialized version of the class and use the gs in every build as the specialization. The base class gets extinct.
I’m not quite sure how Embrace the Darkness (Mallyx elite) works… Does it only copy conditions stacked on you or transfers them? If it doesn’t transfer, Revenant could really heavily rely on that Resistance in some builds.
Hammer auto throw looks a little bit ridiculous. Not only it looks weird on anything other than Charr or Norn (the tru races) but it’s also a very reliable 100% chance projectile finisher when having the rate of fire comparable to our Staff with only 20%.
Looks solid and nice, has strong downstate which will be usable against stealthed since you can aim a projectile without a target.
The thing that concerns me a bit is that Jalis no cooldown on taunt as long as he manages energy right.

Hammer auto throw looks a little bit ridiculous. Not only it looks weird on anything other than Charr or Norn (the tru races) but it’s also a very reliable 100% chance projectile finisher when having the rate of fire comparable to our Staff with only 20%.
Looks solid and nice, has strong downstate which will be usable against stealthed since you can aim a projectile without a target.

It only copies the conditions and, apart from resistance, they dont seem to have much condition control. I think a mallyx revenent without resistence will die rather fast…
SO, I was looking at the traits the rev gets. HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA saw the first or second minor trait, where they get 2.5 seconds of stability after a dodge roll. I wanted to break something, as the rev will get damage, condition control, cc, movement and stability, where a necro gets… ds and a grandmaster trait that hardly anyone takes. ANET has so much bias, and must hate the godkitten necro. jesus
Its not just necro. By the looks of it rev will chuck every class to the dirt except ele, thief and warrior. Warrior is saved because of banners and thief because of stealth. But if rev gets a smoke field you can say goodbye to thieves aswell. Ele obv stays because of damage, icebow and fury stacking.

Well, this is kinda depressing, but no matter what… I’ll keep going with my Condimancer and I can only hope they’ll adjust the current professions enough to compete with the Revenant and that the specializations are cheap-kitten kittenz put together to ‘please’ us.

its godkitten op, the entire class is op, and urinates over existing class, most specifically the necro. it has everything we don’t, and almost everything we do, minus our crappy unresponsive pets.

True but i think condition necros will destroy them. Unless the other professions get changed massivly i think revenents will dominate pve. In pvp i am not so sure.
I for my part will enjoy killing those condition revenants that think they can get away with such amzing toys, that should rightfully be ours.
I’m going to make it my sole goal in wvw. track down and kill all revs. anet literally took our analysis and complaints regarding our class and created a new one, that will not only be useful in pve, but also useful in pvp, esp in groups. So not happy about this.
So the Witch Hunt has begun.

based on what evidence? necro rework? Been here for 2 + years and i saw the necro go from being interesting in beta, to a little run down post beta for a year, followed by a spike in usefulness (thought over the top in condi damage) to a decrease in usefulness (due to not being able to fear/control bosses), to another decrease in usefulness due to a failure to return previous levels to normal when they reworked things (dropped dumb fire down). I REALLY do not think they devs will come back and finally get to our class after 2 years. I am still laughing that necro was 2 or 3 on the list of characters needing the most attention, and am still waiting for the same moment rangers received. Anet has an internal bias against necros, they always have, and always will, and i think it is simply down to a class mechanic that was based off a down state, and an inability to figure out how to change it without having to fundamentally alter the game code. DS still acts like a down state, always has, and has been a limited our evolution as a class. While other classes have gotten more powerful or refined, our class has simply always been sub threshold. We are good at 1 v 1 and if left unattended, we can wreak havoc, but that does not mean we bring anything to organized team play. Our limits in pve are noticeable, esp in dungeons. I am just appalled that anet never took the time to take a hard serious look at the necro after 2 years. They did with the ranger, imo, and they did with the ele, or made the attempt. We were supposed to be next up, but magically, nothing happened. oh wait, the rev happened, diff class.
Well Rev does definitely seem to be getting mechanics that Necro should be getting, IMO. I mean just calling it condition manipulation like they’ve never done is a little…. curious.
That being said, I don’t think the class will necessarily displace necros from what I’ve seen already. I do think that they’ll need to work hard to balance energy and the legend swapping. Also it seems like some things could really use cast times/animations.
I’m mostly unhappy that it seems that every Rev skill seems to have new technology or mechanics, and if they dont update current classes, it’s just going to be so much more interesting. Compare those revenant weapon skills to axe/focus. Plus, they bragged about updated UI, so I sure hope that they can update DS UI as well.

Agree that DS holds back, I’m just speculating based on changes to stability,taunt coming,specilizations and a possible different pve meta. I do wonder since when where they working on expansion..forum specialists hopefully are the last step to start imimproving.

Talk about overhype. Well thought-out traits? Half of those traits are passive procs that everyone agrees are crap since you can’t plan ahead or be countered easily with them.

I doubt they lack the ability to keep you in melee. First they have the taunt chain in Jalis form that applies slow, then they have the Teleport chill on Axe #4, then they have 50% chance to chill on crit, then they have the Temporal Rift to pull people in.

As I read about Revenant, I thought, “This is going to completely obsolete Necromancer.”
Necromancer relies heavily on chill, cripple, weakness, poison, and fear for sustain. Giving all new boons that grant immunity or conditions that replicate Necro’s mobility reducing conditions to every profession is going to make life miserable.
You can be sure that all these new boons and conditions will be available to most, if not all, other professions. Yet, you can also be sure that the developers will tell the Necromancer community the same old things: LTP, use DS for sustain, Necro has poor mobility by design, conditions are too powerful so Necro’s conditions will be nerfed.
I am sorry for the rant but every time the Necromancer community receives some small suggestion from developers that it will get an improvement, other professions end up with the same, or better.
Count on nothing changing in game balance for Necromancer except moving the profession even closer to an immobile power job. Already not that good at condition damage, Necromancer is best at auto-attacking and tanking.
Hopefully, at least one of the other professions will have a “Carry Slow Tanks” skill to lend more mobility.
My biggest concern about the Revenant is forcing the Necro out of the PvP meta, since it looks like it will do condition pressure and boon ripping better (with Malyx).

Mace/axe is indeed a little nuts but if mallyx is the only condition legend i am not sure how good a condition revenant actually will be. Mallyx seems far to risky.

Funny you should mention this. That hammer auto with the dark field on skill 4 has completely destroyed necros one unique use in all of PvE. And that was dark field + icebow 2 spam for fast jade maw kills (thief can do it aswell but SR has long cd and isnt enough for jade maw). Looks like i will no longer be rolling necro whenever my group gets jade maw on fractal 50 once HoT releases.

Well, there is one thing to cling on to for hope though: The Necromancer Specialisation. Maybe we will finally get something that will make us sought after for Dungeons… I can still dream, can’t I?… ._.
Its really frustrating though, the thing is the Mallyx-Skills are literally improved Necro-Spells… Plague Signet on Crack, Selftargeted Epidemic on Crack, non-cleansing Consume Conditions, a selfbuff-Well of Power that doesn’T rely on the type of conditions currently applied, and something a lot of Necros would kill for: a ground-targeted teleport. And most of them are on 0 CD (in fact, I believe only the healing skill has a CD). Yes, they cost energy, but seriously I’d rather have Necro-Utilities cost Life Force and 0 CD. MAYBE that will be the change to our Class-Mechanic for the Specialisation… Its only a dream, but kitten , that would be freaking awesome. Question would be if the old utilities stayed the same or got, like, a 30-40 second CD decrease in exchange for costing Life Force. That would buff Necro immensly I think.

at least they have the option to do both, although not at once. necros neither have those amounts of torment nor such accessible lifesteal.

what makes you think i ONLY want to do that? the lifesteal is just a nice bonus on top of it and revenants dont have to invest anything to get it.

A good point, i was only thinking about lifesteal for the revenant himself. Yeah the group dynamic will be a lot different.

Mallyx is more like necro on crack. Slowly kills himself due to no condi removal. Can’t get out of CC due to no stunbreaks but it has everything i wanted in necro.
Apart from that elite has its limits (transfer every 3 sec, condi duration capped at 3 sec).
So while mallyx looks awesome on first glance, it has necros vulnerabilities x10.
Also is it confirmed/denied that revenant can’t choose utility skills? Arrows are there but they could be for changing skill location only.

You can probably manipulate it like burning speed and make the blasts cover a shorter distance. I severely doubt anet will fix camera manipulations for HoT. Besides all 3 should hit inside a flamewall for prestacking. So even if the rev misses out on a single blast the rest of the group wont. Wall might also work as you said. But im banking on camera manipulations for triple blasts.

Apparently it’s something they are still exploring.
I just wanted to say. One time; I suggested a trait for necromancer that said “Break stuns when entering Death Shroud”. And everyone jumped ALL over me with how broken OP it’d be. But I don’t see how it’s any more OP than stun breaking with legend swap. O.o

Well I only saw one stun break out of all their bar skills and it was their elite. So it still stands at this point. Plus they can’t just flash their legends like we can flash DS. If they use it to stunbreak it is a more significant choice.
