Every other class but Necro has:

Block
Vigor
Fury skills
Burning

Lack of some effects we share with one of other classes, for example:
Quickness – every class except us and ele.
Evade – us and guardians.

There are some “limited” effects that only several classes (4 at max) can use. We have two of them:
01 – Fear
But even here we lose to other classes.
Our base fear has 1 second duration.
Warriors and thieves can induce fear for 3 seconds. Ranges for 2.
Yaaaay…
Edit: in PvE fear became useless. After December 14 patch we can’t anymore fear bosses/champions, which makes us next to useless in dungeons.

02 – Retaliation
But who needs retaliation anyway?

My point: I don’t have one. I just wanted a list to see where we were screwed over.
Since it’s wiki I got information from, not everything might be correct.

But I don’t even care about most of the effects mentioned in this list.
There are only 3 things that concern me:

  1. Block.
  2. Vigor.
  3. Fear.

Having first two is a big deal. Warriors can solo Lupicus with blocks. Robert Hrouda (Content Designer) for some reason thinks that every class can do that, which is not true.
As for Vigor, the only way for us to get some extra endurance is rune/sigils, and not cheap ones, I might add. Sigil of Superior Energy will cost you 2.5g atm.

But who needs retaliation anyway?

Just an aside, Retaliation scales with your power. This is an interesting fact exploited by some tank builds. Search Youtube for Tankcat to see a very humorous Engineer build that uses retaliation and confusion.

Retaliation is currently undervalued, not unlike confusion was in WvW awhile ago. It’s actually quite good on some builds.

Welp. Since our fear now basally useless, I think Retaliation isn’t that bad. I mean, this is the only “limited” effect we have that still works. Sigh.

I would be fine with not having access to those other effects, if we didn’t have to spend all our traits and runes just to make fear last a decent amount of time.

We should have the most effective fears. Make Doom 2 seconds base. Make Staff 5 fear for 1.25 or 1.5. Change +50% fear trait into +.5 sec, so Doom would be 2.5 seconds and Staff 5 would be 1.75 or 2. Change numbers on the trait that causes fear to deal damage so it deals less damage per tick (so it isn’t totally OP with the longer durations).
And make our downed state fear AOE, like how every other class has a way to prevent themselves getting stomped at least once.

We have a downed state fear aoe trait, but it has a 90 second CD so it’s mostly useless, I think maybe 1 out of 20 times it has helped, the rest of the times it was little more than just an amusing thing to watch while I slowly died

I think they were trying to console you >.> vigor wouldn’t be all that great on a necro anyway.. just dodge more into more bad things..

block would be cool.
