The Reaper and the Not-so-great-sword
The reaper is pretty much what I expected to see and a fantastic base for a joke. Well maybe the next Elite spec will be better.
lol
I loled pretty hard at this…
I don’t feel the same way, but that montage was hillarious! XDD
Hahahah those pictures, epic.
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.
I’m 50/50 on the whole issue, but that pic is funny.
The
Funny stuff. And I get the bad feeling that this spec is all about introducing a viable power spec for pvp rather than making the necro viable in pve.
Let me try and clarify myself a bit more. Death Shroud is very powerful because it gives Necromancer access to a secondary health bar which is is much more reliably renewable than normal health is for other professions. On top of that it essentially also gives them a 3rd weapon set that they can use to circumvent the basic weapon swap cooldown to reliably bounce between powerful skills in 3 different sets. For both of these reasons, Necromancer has a high power ceiling but also an extremely high learning curve.
In the current condition heavy meta-game, there is a lot of condition removal. The problem this is causing for Necromancers is that they do not have a lot of build diversity in this meta, because they don’t have any great power builds they can turn to. What I would like to try and do is increase build diversity without increasing effectiveness because I don’t believe we have really seen what strong Necromancers can do yet.
Hopefully that explains a bit where we stand. We are still working towards getting rid of all of the bugs in everyone’s skills and traits at which point we can get a much better idea of where everyone stands. That time will also give us the chance to see where the large amount of current players actually takes the meta game.

I disagree 100% with the OP, but the image was wonderful.

@Shaogin I have the opposite impression let’s remember no new dungeons will probably be added.

Think I’m reading your reply wrong. You think the new build will be more PvE focused instead of PvP focused because it’s possible that no new dungeons are coming? I’m not sure I follow your logic there. :-/

It will definitely be more open world focus but their presentation and focus on making reaper a big bad unstoppable boss seems heavy PvE focused we know how we deal with these bosses… I doubt they would choose that to describe a PvP spec players can try tough.

I know it’s supposed to be a joke but I’m afraid this is a rather accurate portrayal of how it’s actually going to be…
Nice comic though, well done.

I agree. Although the Elite spec has some pvp potential (especially in the upcoming Stronghold mode), most of its bright points will shine in HoT PvE and WvW. For the sole reason that there’s so many adds in PvE and WvW compared to vanilla PvP, allowing the Reaper to “reap” the benefits of their AoE scaling without being focused themselves. Also the amount of AoE chill will help keep all those mordrem from spinning and charging around, mordrem healers healing so much etc.
On the dungeon issue, Anet has all but confirmed dungeons are not going to be part or at least any real focus in the new HoT content and old dungeons won’t be getting HoT updates. They’re basically abandoning the feature if I remember correctly for more immersive, co-operative and interactive open world content.
Hoping you’re wrong but I don’t care because the image was hilarious.

Well for open world or dungeons, from what has been shown at this time the Reaper will still bring no group utility and will be there for nothing but damage. Chill and Fear just aren’t that useful in group PvE content. On the other hand, a power-based necro that can stand and fight on a capture point or cripple enemy lane movements in stronghold would be very useful. And from what Dev posts I’ve seen, their concerns seem to gravitate around PvP.
Ok, I’m a bit more optimistic about Reaper (waiting for POI today), but have to give credit on the graphic. That was great!
Indeed.. the images are great lol.. had a great laugh at it simply brilliant !:D

I think Chill is more useful in HoT PvE since trash (and bosses) actually use skills regularly and move all over the place with said skills. 66% slower skill recharge and 66% less movement speed could be a big deal with harder mordrem as soft cc goes. With Bitter Chill from the Spite line the Reaper becomes an AoE chill/vulnerability stacker. Even more so with Chilling Darkness (although trait usage becomes non-optimal for a power based Reaper by going curses here. Will have to see what the Reaper trait line truly offers to see if condi Reapers are viable).

That was hilarious.
On the bright side.. Reaper made me take a second swing at rolling a Necro.
A scarey effin norn necro.

I loved the picture… I’m not good at making this kind of things but, if I had to do one, i’ll make something with, maybe a child crying in front of it’s mother or father that say :
Crying child (with Necro tag on the fronthead) : “But [Dad/Mom] It burn hard around the wyvern!!!”
[Mom/Dad] (with Anet logo) : “Don’t cry boy, don’t cry! Here take this, it’s the Reaper spec. You just have to use Death shroud, it’s a 2nd hp bar, it’s overpowered.”
That was hilarious.

I’m on board with this. My human Necro has been shelved for some time. If this spec turns out to be interesting enough, especially because I love Chill as a condition, this might be enough to convince me to main my Necro again. But I’d re-roll him to Norn.

I don’t believe we have really seen what strong Necromancers can do yet.
After three years this still feels condescending.
Too early to judge really, but Necromancer players have every right to be worried given the track-record of class changes. I can see this all failing miserably.
If there’s more than one minion related skill i will literally have kittens of furious rage… like baby cats with rabies.

The first time I read it, it simply felt analytical to me. Pride and ego need to be removed from the equation if you want to have an honest conversation about balance and potential.

If no Anet staff or necro player has reached this level of strength they speak of that shows a lot about the class imo.

Not sure if this has been asked/discussed or not: but why the slow speed on the cleave abilities? Unless these are uninterruptible, won’t they be next to useless. Maybe I have to see it in practice, but won’t the slow times mean opposing players have either time to cast Fear, or any other number of interrupts, and/or just move out of the way?
Reaper will be awesome farming bags in Orr and events like Modnir.

Gw2 is a masterpiece at it’s foundation. Content-wise however…

The Necro is already great at farming bags. This will be no better, especially with slower attacks.
That Necromancer Reaper broke the Twitch… that Greatsword too strong. lol
