So far my Necromancer is lvl 33 and I’m loving him, he’s definitely the character for me and I’m having lots of fun
Problem is: Underwater combat
Looks like many of the Necro’s best abilities cannot be used underwater… Flesh Golem, wells, Spectral wall and so on… As a leveling Condition-Minionmancer, What would you recommend for Underwater set up?
Epidemic is usually very useful as underwater skill, as it is regularly.
Trident is condition weapon. Spear is raw power.
Spear has nice combo: 3 → 4 → 2 that summons life siphoning shrimps around you, pulls mobs around you into that shrimp pool and then melee spin kills those mobs.
I don’t use trident as often. I know it gives CC(4), bleed, poison, weakness, chill and vulnerability. Number 5 also has quite good raw damage on it.
Death shroud also works well. Tranfer conditions with 1, blind and poison with 2, fear with 3, use 4 only if you want to support allies around you (take allies conditions to yourself and then use DS1 to put them back on enemy) or you want bigger heal from Consume Conditions (more heal per condition), and ofc terror on 5.
Possible utilities (that I tend to use):
- Epidemic works underwater. As wonderful on water as on ground.
- Spectral Armor for survivability
- Spectral Walk / Spectral Grasp for getting to mobs / getting mobs to you
- Signets work too: Plague Signet, Signet of Spite, Signet of the Locust (or even ress signet: Signet of Undeath)

I use BiP, Epidemic, Bone Fiend.
We are quite strong underwater. Trident2 whenever its off CD for AoE weakness and aggro, BiP, epidemic, Trident5 and they are usually dead. If not, then flash into DS for DS2, or Trident3 for the poison.
For Veterans, add in Trident4 and DS5 followed by DS3.
When you also mix in the Spear rotation mentioned above you are pretty much a nonstop AoE killing machine.
Don’t forget that while your trident is your condi weapon, start fights in spear so you get that 5 bleed from Spear5 to add to your Epidemic coktail.
Minions are pretty godly underwater.
All of the pathing issues they have above ground are gone. Foes dont one shot them or aoe them to death underwater either. (This includes the fractal enemies, boss, Hotw bosses and frostgorge underwater champions for example). Most of the time underwater enemics are spread out and can be focused. Minions can also combo off your Death Shroud #2 long lasting poison field which is necromancer’s best underwater skill.
Ok, your condi traits arent optimal underwater, but minion DPS is unaffected by traits so you are mostly ok.
The only condi trait that doesn’t work underwater is Lingering Curse, but since you can swap that out for Master of Corruption/Hemophilia/Terror/Weakening Shroud/Chilling Darkness, there’s not a whole lot of concern.
Life blast underwater version is sick. Use it.
Blood is power is a nice underwater skill and u can transfer the bleed on you with underwater life blast. Underwater death shroud in general is just awesome.
Trident 1 tag as many things as you can, kite them in a circle, Epidemic, Trident 5. If you have pulled too much, go into plague.

Our underwater weapons (including DS) are godly overpowered for necro weapons (important part here). Like only thing with better break the profession synergy underwater is the thief perma evade and engie nades that are about twice as fast, have half the cooldown and are targeted.
I would love an above ground spear and trident (power weapons with some condition support).
Nobody touches Engineer, underwater. Ranger also a whole tier ahead of Necromancer. But necromancer is in the next tier just below that.

Ranger UW is kitten except for being immortal in downed. But i think that being the best at being dead is kinda… well lets just say you shouldnt be proud of that.

My condi mesmer crushes everything underwater. There is no one that even comes close, including necro. But I cant think of even 10 times I was required to be in only water during the game.

Of all classes necro is the one that really stands out to have really good underwater weapon skills. The synergy, damage and survivability you have underwater is so ridiculously strong (especially in beserker gear). Shame necro is a complete mess and so boring on land compared to underwater.
Trident is not a condi weapon. But condi-necros must use trident underwater. It’s a totally different thing.
Trident does it best in hybrid build.
1# stacks bleeding with a small Aoe, and a lot, giving enought condition dps.
2# and 5# are power Aoe (the best to go in combo with spear, so power necros should use both weapons)
4# is sink (very good vs champion, ignores defiance)
3#is for poison, but i found it quite horrible….
Trident #3 isn’t for poison, it’s for mobility+combo field. The poison is a nice bonus.

Same here except I sometimes trade BiP for Bone Minions and blow them up when I am planning more ranged damage.
Superior Rune of the Krait is good if you have the bag space to make a swimsuit.
I also use Signet of the Locust a lot underwater. Necromancer is pretty awesome, I think, and there should be more underwater content.
