We are the chosen one! [Elite spec.]
That symbol in the background is a set of putrid spectral wings similar to the shiny white ones Guardian has.
I feel like everybody is getting worked up over something that was done with artistic license in mind…. and we all know how that HoT teaser trailer ended didn’t we? Sometimes guys, a spoon is just a spoon, and sometimes a splash of green in the background is just a splash of green.
This piece conveys everything the previous ones were supposed to convey. A new weapon (Shield, Longbow, Greatsword) new piece of armor (Shoulders, Gauntlets, Hood) and the profession in question (Mesmer, Guardian, Necromancer). I think everything after that is you guys digging for things that just aren’t there. o___o

Let’s hope that Ruby took notes from the Ready-Up session last week and gives a better performance in the POI this week.
expecting a lackluster preview same as the mesmer one on points of interest, thanks ruby
Yes, please give Rubi some coke or coffee or something. She seemed to be always kinda sleepy and uninterested in the streams. Did she stop playing the game as well?
gonna summon dragons! yay!
Most likely Greatsword will be condis/bleeding based.
We already know the greatsword auto attack chain. It only inflicts Chill. A condi weapon with no damaging condi application on auto attack would be god kitten awful.

Necro staff, Ranger axe, and Mesmer scepter.

Mesmer scepter.
That was easily one of the worst weapons in the game before they added Torment to it though. Staff is pretty lackluster as well if it weren’t for Reaper’s Mark.

Mes scepter does torment
But… warrior bow, is another one which applies nocondis on auto.. not to mention condi guard.
Still though… GS could be a hybrid weapon.
Celestial GS Necro anyone?

Man I really neglect mesmers. When did that happen. I want cripple on Staff 1 and a torment.

There will be a trait that allows war bow AA to burn, guardian doesn’t count.
On topic I still think it’s a loss-loss unless this was all a bad joke.
The Dhuumfire thread
Celestial GS Necro anyone?
With our awesome Might uptime outside of spamming 1 in DS with Reaper’s Might? Aight.
The only way I’d accept spirits would be if they would act as turrets as well, and had a second activation to imbue them into the GS to wreck some face. Since this is clearly not happening, not spirits! And please no shouts either, at least not the type that merely gives and insignificant fire and forget buff.

There will be, but there currently isn’t. So a condi warrior right now that uses a bow (naturally) has no condis on its auto attacks. That would be the same as a scepter / x and GS Necro with no condis on GS… if other GS skills apply condis… similar to how our staff is.
Guardian is a special case but quite similar (no condi on auto attack)

As far as I know, celestial engis don’t rely on might stacking to deal damage. Celestial = hybrid stat. If GS is hybrid, and we get some cool healing, celestial suddenly becomes really nice. Also: Blood is power. Also: might duration runes. Also: Battle sigils.

Won’t be spirits; Necro already has pets.
Neither will it be wells for the obvious reason.
There are several profession specialties that are similar enough to Necromancer’s like venoms and others that are so core to the profession that copying them is unlikely.
Look at current specializations on other professions to guess which had the best copy paste chance to fill a different play style. Shouts are pretty likely based on that but there are other options.

Cele engi, ele, warrior:
~Permanent ticking healing which scales with HP (Backpack Regen, Soothing Mist, Healing Signet).
Nice amount of easily accesible Burning for condition dmg.
(With Battle sigil nerf, engi’s can’t stack Might so easily with Grenade/TK.)
I believe necros are lacking both (Dhuumfire can be reworked, but we’ll know only at release how effective it become..).
I don’t know if we’ll get a nice ticking healing source which works even in DS, but I somehow can’t hope for it.. I mean.. that would help us to stay alive O.o
Celestial is great/OP “only” for those professions who can utilize all stats, including healing power.
PLEASE don’t let it be AI depedent. Anet’s AI = crap.
If it’s AI dependent, I will, without a doubt, shelve this class and play rev.
In addition, spirits, etc, are immobile? WTF? So we are going to get immobile spirits? come on, how will that help us at all, except with stacking in one area for boss fights. YAY, nothing useful for pvp/wvw.
Most likely Greatsword will be condis/bleeding based.

I was just joking as per Bhawb’s “baseless speculation” idea. I don’t have any expectations at this point as to what we’re going to get.
Also, for those who mentioned Staff as a condi weapon, I’d argue that it’s a hybrid/utility weapon, not necessarily condi. Poison/Chill is good for both Power/Condi, as is Condi Transfer, piercing LF generation, and Fear. Even Staff #2 gives Regen, so it’s more than just the bleed stacks.

Can someone link information on the known GS info? I feel like i missed some info here (there is chill on auto?)

People are using the Necro NPC’s auto-chain as basis for speculation. It could be different.

Ah ok. Thank you.
I’m just afraid Friday is just going to be hours of chat kittening about the guardian spec name and anet actually talking to them instead of talking about necromancer.
It was 2 vs 20 but its ok we got’em both!

Off-topic, but it will be interesting to see if Celestial Engineer survives post-Specialization update. Right now they get by with still being meta post-SoB nerf largely thanks to the fact their Celestial build is the only one that takes traits from their professions power trait line, and stats from traits are going bye-bye when specializations are added in.
Don’t hate on the Asura<
Asura necros are just so kewl
Just for the record, before it goes down.. I’m trying not to get my hopes up but this is something I’ve always wanted for the necromancer. Even if its decent I’ll be happy.
I was wondering how could you tell this picture shows a necromancer?
The picture is quite obviously necro themed with the whole darkness and green aspect. In addition there’s a greatsword and we already know necromancers are getting greatswords.
Anet said they were reworking traps and spirits for ranger. Guess what? Guardian got traps.
The dragonhunter art teaser had dragon gauntlets in it. So either those gauntlets or the hood are our specialization armor pieces. Can probably speculate a little off of that.
I believe it’s the sword.
But kitten , I wish art had Charr in it. Would look 100% better. And we can’t see anything bout ears and greatsword.
Fairly sure every class is the same race as their cover picture for the initial professions art.
This means the Engineer will be charr.

Anet said they were reworking traps and spirits for ranger. Guess what? Guardian got traps.
They also said Warrior Physical skills are getting changed, and Engi kits are losing their hobosacks, does that mean Physical and Kits are also become skill types for the new epic specs? (Note before answering that giving another profession kits is practically akin to give another profession Elemental attunements: It’s basically how Engineers are suppose to function without weapon swap)
Then again, Guardians had some Consecration traits rolled into baseline, and I could accept Neco Consecration (Desecration?) skills.

Hobosacks got changed because of popular demand from engineers. How did physical skills change? Afaik they received no overhauls, just a new trait to try to encourage more use, and Mend became a physical skill, but all non-tagged spells got that treatment.

From the HoT teaser trailer they got the longbow for guardians right.
On the mesmer’s teaser image there was only pink mist in the background , but when they added something (wings) for the guardian’s image it was totally relevant.
We may be guessing wrong, but it’s unlikely that the thing behind the necro is just an artistic license. In my opinion the “green splashes” are depicting the new use of our class mechanic (life force) in the specialization.
Am I the only one seeing an insect like spirit in the background?

Physical Skills will now scale in effect depending on how much endurance you have. At full endurance, the Stomps will stomp wider, the kicks will send people further, the bolas will immobilize longer, etc.
I’m just saying that just because they changes how spirits work does not mean some other profession (much less necromancers) is getting spirits.

Oh yeah. Forgot about that. Touché.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the green is trying to be something, however both Mesmer and Guardian had splashes of appropriate color behind them that meant nothing, and the things that they had that were distinct (shield, longbow, wings) were very distinct.
Looks like a Death Knight. Would fit well with the whole “channeling life force into ____” idea they’ve been hinting at.
I’m sure they found some way to screw us over and disappoint me on Friday.
The green things are wings. Maybe they are insect wings but they are for flying like Guard and like Locust Swarm.
Or, maybe it’s a decorative swatch.
Oh, I got confused. For some reason I thought he was discussing something in a trailer in those regards. Yeah, I still think that image has a spirit. :P
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
I’m just happy that within the next couple days, I may be able to decide which armor set I will be crafting for HoT.
I’ll go ahead and spoil it for you, new spec is going to be called either Tormentor or Executioner and will focus on torment and movement impeding soft cc, offering nothing overwhelmingly helpful to the necro class.
~Surrender fiend and you will get an easy death
~I could promise you the same…but it would be a lie…
It still look like a revamp DS to me, if indeed those are insects wings adding to the fact that I saw as some kind of ooze first this might be insect venoms. This is very generic the guardian one was misleading mesmer obvious, this one…the blade looked “possessed” if it’s not just skin, the face is hidden then just necro stuff.
Edit: The armor remind me of carnivorous flowers, it’s obviously jungle themed but this doesn’t look much shout-y,warrior-y to me so far.

Guys we’re being presumptuous about the greatsword and the necro here.
Look at the greatsword’s eyes. Maybe the greatsword is the one wielding the necro.
Perhaps, and think about this a second. The Elite spec is a merger, a fusion of sorts. Of what? You ask. Two necromancers! One is imbued into a greatsword and possesses the other necromancer in question, for double the power!
Elite spec called Ettin confirmed.
They also take up two party slots in dungeons! They will be all the rage.
Am I the only one seeing an insect like spirit in the background?
I’m not seeing it. Those are serrated blades in the background. Maybe we could use multiple skills simultaneously for our elite specialization. It’d certainly be interesting.

I know you’re joking here but that actually looks a bit enticing. Not the name or two slots bit though, and skills would be a bit hard to think of.

I really hope PoI steps up its game this week, I was really hoping we would get a Ready Up preview with how awful the PoI one was in comparison. W/e though, we’ll finally know if we’re getting shouts or spirits or something else, and if it really is Marjory’s GS AA animation so I know how many people I have to say “I told you so” to.
Necromancer using Greatsword is in the trailer. We talked about this on the HoT forum. Here is a repost for others to see the auto attack…

I still don’t see the Necro with the GS in that. And if you mean the green streak, that could just as easily be the Dagger-auto animation (one of the first two swipes).
