What happened? Disappointed
honestly, all classes should be able to pick up any role and do it successfully— and as well as any other class. this way they truly avoid the holy trinity and leave playstyle to just that— playstyle and class-specific utility differences.
It’s not fair to label necro as “not the one who hits like a truck but is supposed to outlast everyone” because the key is to diversify builds and viable ways to play every class.
in short, i disagree with your statement.
I think the current problem players are having with the necromancer is that they are realizing no matter what build they make, another class is far outperforming them with less or equal effort.
The lack of more viable builds for necromancers due to bugs, bad sinergy from traits and other reasons(complete useless minion AI for example) is what is dragging the class down imo.

I’m not saying to only have one viable build which would be death shroud, im using many other builds that i enjoy but why ignore the build that was suppose to be the selling point of the necro? I’m saying that it should be a priority because that’s what sold the class, then focus on those other builds.
Their whole development and Beta weekend events when it came to the necro was to be the class to outlast others…that is why they added the death shroud mechanic, how can you argue with that?
I would argue with your last statement. I don’t know if you were around, but the “original” necro community had tons of complaints about what im saying. Whenever ANET added those well/crit/power/condition build they gave up or moved on. I did that until i realized im not feeling other profession.
Tbh, i don’t think the selling point of the necro was the soul-reaping trait line or the DS mechanic. People play classes because they like the idea of how the class plays, stylistically. When I first bought GW2, I went straight to character creation and chose the class that tickled my fancy the most, and that clicked with my style. To make every class best at one specific trait line would not be balanced nor enjoyable by a massive community that just wants to play their character the way they want it to. The difficult part is making each aspect of the classes balanced when posed against each other.

But that is where the problem stands.
As i said before, death shroud is the evidence when i said that the necro was made to outlast others. As long as we have DS, balancing will be broken with the necro. Lets say ANET fixes the bugs and buffers our skills that are known to be weak, imagine how OP we will be with DS. You can’t have a powerful build whenever you have a second life bar just look at BWE2, which is why this profession is not going anywhere.
Bottom line, either revamp this class including removing DS or make, like it was before, DS the main build.
DS is another way of taking damage, other classes have their own way of avoiding damage or taking it i.e thieves stealth, mesmers clone… but it doesn’t make a class OP having a second HP bar, especially since there is no other way for us to mitigate damage, other than plague form. Making DS “the build” is counter-intuitive to the design of the game being a build-friendly game.
